You like squid Mark? You gotta join in our skype night.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Wee pots! Have I missed this? When's the deadline? Sorry, what with the jubilee and a double birthday on 12th I've been too busy disappearing up my own arse to come here. I do have some poems and a short story about Christmas you could use... am I too late?

Oh and my MC likes squid (phnark). So do I. I shouldn't because they are very smart and it's far closer to cannibalism (on the intellect front) than eating a cow or a horse... poor buggers just aren't as cute. Sorry I'm rambling I'll shut up now.

Cheers

MTM

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Lol!

I'm just about to make a dolphin sarnie.... JOKING!!!

You've not come even close to missing the deadline, Mary. Get in touch with our Ingite. She'll sort you out.

Though might have better luck with Ignite.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments September was the deadline I think - or was that when it's being published? I'll have to find some time!

message 156: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments September is the deadline - I hope to have it published by the end of October. Darren Humphries is my right hand man and general factotum (he does all the hard stuff!) and is usually immured in the NoMoWriMo or whetever the thing's called, in November.

I've just had a second lovely poem from Harry - something from you would be brilliant, MTM.

At least I didn't call her Ingrate as I did some months back.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Phnark! Patti!

Ignite, thanks. I have a poem or two and a story I wrote for a blog about Santa. By September I might even have written something new!

Cheers

message 160: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Getting back to the cover (as i have a day off and nothing to do!!) I like the idea of using the Oak tree and the foliage being used as Sarah suggested with her cornucopia. But instead of using words from the genre, each image (which may include all the funny ones aswell) could represent each Author and their name can be somehow included in the image (for example if Gingerlily had the squid I could put her name along the tail of the squid, subtley)
aaah.....too many ideas goin round in me head now!

message 161: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments That all depends on who the authors are and whether you are familiar with their work. I think salad ingredients formed into the shape of an oak tree might work?

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Ignite wrote: "That all depends on who the authors are and whether you are familiar with their work. I think salad ingredients formed into the shape of an oak tree might work?"

Yep, that is what i am working on at the mo actually (great minds!) I have the tree sketched out. Gonna scan in and digitalise now and then see what I can do with it from there.
I will do a little sketch of what I mean with the names of the author in the iNgredients as I don't think it will matter if we know their work.....

message 163: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments If you can get a pint of beer as a salad ingredient, I'd totally support that idea!

message 164: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments You know I might bug you Em after this.

I like to bug people who can draw trees since I'm working on my back tattoo design.

/complete off topic.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Did someone mention beer?

message 166: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Andrew wrote: "If you can get a pint of beer as a salad ingredient, I'd totally support that idea!"

That's salad dressing, innit?

message 167: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments Really? I must start eating more salad in that case!

message 168: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments No probs Elle, we'll chat about that soon xx

Ok, so this is very rough and quickly drawn out but i hop you get what i mean. so lots of different ingredients to our Goodreads Salmagundi Salad (we can include our funnies or, as Patti suggested i do one funny and one real!) making up the foliage of the oak tree that i have drawn already

Don't ask me why I chose an egg but it seemed like the quickest and easiest thing to draw!!

message 169: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments such a cool egg.

random? yes. i'm not sure how you can have an uncool egg but yes, i like it very much :P

message 170: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Nice one. I shall call him Eggie after this! Maybe not. He might not talk to me again!

message 171: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments Oooo! Do brownies or fluffy pillows have a place in salad though.....

message 172: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Well, that is kinda why we need to decide if I am going random and funny with the fluffy pillows, chocolate fountains and squid or sensible with the salad theme!! Or a mix of both (a hodgepodge if you will!!)

Also do we need something along the lines of 'A Goodreads Anthology' (wording to be agreed) as just the title may be a bit random, kind of needs something to show what it actually is!

message 173: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Elle, I have sent you a BBM with my start at the tree (is a piccie of my computer screen so not the best quality but you get the drift!!)

message 174: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments *wonders where my phone is*

message 175: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Elle, look at Katie Stewart's covers. She has an AMAZING tree on one of them.

She's also a really nice person who writes great books. :)

message 176: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments You talking about the celtic looking one?

I want something a lot different although that one is cool.

I still can't find my phone.

message 177: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Jeez. Someone ring Elle, will you?

What sort of tree then?

message 178: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Proposed tree for the cover!
http://www.goodreads.com/photo/group/...

Elle, tell them where you found your phone......talk about random!!

message 179: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments If Cornelius Harker is a egg Can I be a gherkin? Not that I've sent my stuff in yet but I'm going to. So far all I have is a poem about scotch eggs. Not very fantasy. Oh well.

cheers

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments ... in my lunch box...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I thought you were a Marrow MTM... or whatever that large vegetable on your facebook profile is.

message 182: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments And the tree I want is a cross between a comic type tree and a tree of life. It's just finding the right balance between detail and simplicity.

I'm find it so hard to put my thoughts into actual words though.

AHH!!! Your phone!

Ah yes... it is a marrow. I probably should be a marrow then.

Hmm....

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Are you very marrow-ninded?

message 187: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Okay in my defence people - I had it in work in a drawer and it's a lunch box I bring snacks in and other little Tupperware containers so I was putting my grape box from my drawer into it so I reckon I've lifted the phone thinking I'll put it in my bag to take home but I've just chucked it into the box as well lol

message 188: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Love the tree. My Ma used to find her purse in the pantry or in kitchen cupboards. Wherever she was when she unpacked the shopping, the purse got plonked there. In the fridge once!

message 189: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments At least yours did it on purpose. When my Gran died we found purses in the freezer with bank notes pulled out of production several years back!

message 190: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Love the tree, Emz!!!

I'd love to find a full purse or two in my freezer...

Thanks all. I have laid the egg over the top of it on my computer and once i have some more ingredients i tnink it could look quite cool.
Ignite, at some point (and there is no rush coz i can do the whole thing with out it and add at the end) would you mind sending me a list of the contributors please. Ta muchly x

message 192: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I can tell you who's in so far but people keep popping up!

message 193: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments By the way, don't forget that the cover only shows up as a thumbnail so too much detail won't show.

message 194: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Ignite wrote: "By the way, don't forget that the cover only shows up as a thumbnail so too much detail won't show."

Ignite wrote: "I can tell you who's in so far but people keep popping up!"

There is no rush at all for the names. I want to get he layout etc sorted before adding any of that detail

hmmm... yep thumbnail. May be just the ingredients is needed then and not necessarily the Authors names (which were gonna be subtle anyway). Just having a load of ingredients (and looking at various recipes for a Salmagundi, pretty much any fruit, veg and salad can go in!!)as the foliage could look quite effective.

I will have a play. we may not decide to go for this idea at all!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments What would it look like if the blue in the sky was the same blue used for the gallimaufry? Then they'd look like sisters, maybe?

Dunno about the greens either. Do they sort of clash?

Maybe it's just my iPad.

message 200: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments they don't clash so much as not really go together in a nice way, if that makes sense.

they don't compliment each other i suppose
