Hehehehehehe

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Must they be short stories or can they be excerpts - and should they be exclusive to the collection?

And how long should they be (maximum)? :)

message 106: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Not excerpts. The longest last time was over 10,000 words. Copyright stays with the author so it can be used again. Nice if it's new though.

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments Ah, right. Hmmm...not very good at short stories. Maybe I can find a recipe? ;)

I would like to enter some poetry if that's ok is there any genre ? Thanks have a great day....baaaa

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Any Genre Baarbaara.... I expect a bit of poetry will be welcome!

I finished my short story his morning... very short!

message 110: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments The only stories I know are about Johnny McGlory and I think that might be considered plagarism as I believe someone has already written a poem about him, unless it was my granny that made it up cause she used to tell us the stories.

I'll tell you a story
About Johnny McGlory
Who bored a wee hole in the wall
And I'll tell you another about his Big Brother
(can't remember the last line)

message 111: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments That last line doesn't rhyme Jud!
Baarbaara has sent me a poem.

You know where to send your very short life story Simon!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Hmmm, who can make up a last line.....

And when they bored one an other.

message 113: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I googled Johnny McGlory and found out that "I'll tell you a story about Johnny McGory..." Was a common opener in Ireland for children's stories, but nothing else so I guess my granny invented those stories? I guess the years have dimmed my memory or else my young ears heard McGory and turned it to McGlory or it is also possible my granny though McGory was not a nice enough name and thought McGlory was better.

message 114: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It sounds like it's related to

I'll tell you a story of Jackanory.
I'll tell you another of Jack and his brother.

Jackanory of course, was nicked for a children's programme in which celebrities read stories.

message 115: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) I used to love Jackanory. Always loved Bernard Cribbins reading the stories. :-) Ooops, showing my age. :-)

Could be! My granny is over this weekend for a visit and I would ask her but she might think I like her if I do that. Ah well we'll see how we get on and maybe I will anyway, there are worse things in life

message 117: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Try and like her. Grannies need friends! (I should start a group!)

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Granny net.

message 119: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Are they a kind of gruesome stocking?
Or something techy. Why am I asking you? ;)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I love/d my Granny on my Fathers side but she hated the world.

It was glorious.

message 121: by Mark (new)

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments I have a new short story almost ready if you want it?

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I gave Patti my short story to check. She hasn't mentioned it since so I think my novel about SAP BApi programming didn't go down too well. Back to the drawing board.

message 123: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Whadamean I've not mentioned it???

Told you I want to skype through the changes this week.

Would help if you read your emails...

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Probably went straight to junk.

message 125: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Wouldn't be surprised.

message 127: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Hi all,
Now that I have finished with the essay that I was doing I have some time to start thinking about the cover for this book. I know it is a long way off yet but I am excited to get going on it and would like it to be a group effort too :-)
I would really love any ideas or thoughts that anyone has on the subject.. The only thing I know for sure is that I want to keep the Oak Tree in there somewhere (I may even try painting one or something to give me some inspiration!) but is there anything else that HAS to be included (apart from the title, obviously that is a given!)

Pompoms, brownies and fluffy pillows???

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I think a map of the world would be appropriate.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Someone emerging from a chocolate fountain ( in the style of Botticelli's Venus I think)

message 131: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Green. Lots n lots of green.

And a cat with no ears.

(miss you Dotty)

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Beer. Ahhhhh poor Dotty.

I was going to say Patti would like it to be green

message 134: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh and we'll need phish, won't we Janet?

message 135: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Okay, so far we've got a no eared green cat emerging from a chocolate fountain full of phish whilst eating brownies and drinking beer on a bed of fluffy pillows, superimposed on a map of the world.

Wow!!!

message 137: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Well, a salmagundi is a tossed salad (no comments about tossers please!)

Lots of leaves, nuts, berries, different things. The whole idea is that the writers contribute a wealth of different items. The book will be as varied as the group, I hope!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Lucky everyone always take these questions seriously or anything could happen.

I think we can manage the nutz.

message 143: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Ha!! Yeah, we do nuts well!!

Had an idea. Imagine, if you will, 9 boxes, each with a separate image in them (I can use my own photography or drawing/paintings/cartoons) with some of the suggestions from here. Would definitely be a mixed bag!!
And please please can I use a picture of a squid?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Oh yes! absolutely a squid!

message 145: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Drawing from Ignite's description (pardon the pun )I see a cornocopia overflowing with all the various genre of the book's content eg, thriller, poetry, comedy, fantasy etc.Perhaps the words could be written inside the different fruits or the fruits constructed from the words.
Definitely nuts me!

message 146: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Squid is needed.

DEFINITELY.

message 147: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Okay, now I'm seeing our oak tree but the foliage is as Sarah has just described it.

Perhaps you could do a silly cover for a laugh as well, Emz?

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments How are contributions going by the way?
