Lana (LanaBells) | 47 comments Hello all! I am new to the group and so far, I am having so much fun! But, I am looking to read something Tudor related and "talk" about it with those who love the era. I am up for just about anything! Some ideas that come to mind are Jane Rochford, Meg More, Charles Brandon, Katherine Howard (although I've read so much about Henry 8 and his wives but I'm game!). I would love to know more about Anne's supposed relationship with Thomas Wyatt.

Is anyone interested? Please let me know!
Thank you for your time!
With regards,
Lana

Lana (LanaBells) | 47 comments Hi Mary,
I just ordered the Nigel Jones book about the history of The Tower of London from AmazonUK. I saw an advert for a new book called The Plantagenets: The Kings Who Made England. It is to be released in the States may 1st ?! But is now available on kindle. So you have one? It has gotten stellar reviews but the book is $40 (naturally!) when it eventually makes its debut.

I'm game for anything. I don't own a Kindle but my boyfriend lives in England and sends me novels before they are released here.

Let me know your thoughts.
Cheers,
Lana

Mary | 69 comments Do you do IM? I'm on Yahoo/Trillian. I do have a kindle, right now it's got a mixed bag of fantasy, mystery and historical fiction on it. I'm 60 years old, hope that doesn't bother you! and I've been reading British (English, Irish, Scottish) history and novels for most of that time. Nice that he sends you stuff from England. I've found some freebies on kindle from various sources. I read constantly, so it just depends on what I feel like reading at the time.

Lana (LanaBells) | 47 comments I am of like mind with Stephanie!

To me, age is a state of mind. I am happy to learn and share and grow with the wisdom imparted by all---regardless of anything as arbitrary as age! (*^_^*)

Mandy | 26 comments Can recommend the Nigel Jones book, gt my copy for christmas... couldn't put it down!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) There are group reads already in this group. Refer to the bookshelf for previous group reads.

Heather | 15 comments I would LOVE to get a group read together...it looks like there hasn't been one in a VERY long time!

message 9: by Lana (new)

Lana (LanaBells) | 47 comments The Tower was fantastic! I am incredibly thankful for AmazonUK and a British boyfriend (*^^*)! I would gladly do a group read on that book or any other. You name it: I'm up for it!! I'm re-reading Wolf Hall as quickly as possible so I can read Mantel's sequel. However, I would love to do a group read or a buddy read. I did one with another member and she has taught me so much! It was great fun!

Lana (LanaBells) | 47 comments Hello again all! Still interested in a group read? How can we get this going? I'll read anything!

message 11: by Lana (new)

Lana (LanaBells) | 47 comments Okay, I was a little too quick to hit "done"! It saddens me that I've finally found a Tudor lovers book group but many of the posts are months if not a year or two old. I'm up for anything to read. I just finished Hilary Mantel's sequel to Wolf Hall. If you haven't read it yet, please do. It was awesome!! In any case, let's get things rolling!

Destiny | 47 comments I'm game for a group read.

message 13: by Sharon (new)

Sharon I'm in.....did someone choose a book yet?

message 14: by Deb (new)

Deb | 15 comments Lana, I just finished reading Wolf Hall. Any interest in doing a group read of Mantel's sequel? I have it loaded on my Kindle and am about to start reading it. It would be a long read, but that is okay with me.

message 15: by Destiny (new)

Destiny | 47 comments I read wolf hall & bring in the bodies. When ya'll are done I can join the discussion.

message 17: by Amber (new)

Amber | 10 comments I'm also in a group read! Did anyone pick a book yet? Is it the sequel to Wolf Hall? I haven't read Wolf Hall yet.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I don't think we decided yet

message 19: by Amber (new)

Amber | 10 comments Sorry my post was supposed to say that I'm interested in a group read haha not that I'm in a group read

message 20: by Destiny (new)

Destiny | 47 comments It's the sequel but if you have background info on cromwell then you don't really need to read wolf hall.

message 26: by Deb (new)

Deb | 15 comments Judy, which Nigel Jones book are you reading -Tower?

message 27: by Judy (new)

Judy | 13 comments I will be starting Tower, but just waiting for my copy to come. :)

message 28: by Deb (new)

Deb | 15 comments I checked it out of the library but I got diverted by Christmas books!

message 29: by Denise (new)

Denise (dulcinea3) | 88 comments I hope to get to some of my Tudor nonfiction in 2013. I have a bunch of them on my TBR shelf, but tend to put them off because it often takes me a while to get through them. I would like to at least read Winter King: Henry VII and the Dawn of Tudor England, which I won in a GR giveaway this year. It would be great to have someone to read along with, if anybody's interested. I probably won't get to it for a few months at least, though.

Winter King Henry VII and the Dawn of Tudor England by Thomas Penn

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2165 comments I've got that one... it looks interesting, doesn't it?

Yes! I've never read a biography of Henry VII before!

message 32: by Deb (new)

Deb | 15 comments I have it but haven't started it yet. I would be happy to do a group read for that one.

Neither have I; I'm not sure I've seen another one, though I'm sure there is at least one older one.

::Goes to check::

Yeah, there's a few older ones, mostly scholarly, all with very few ratings here at GR.

I personally thought it was pretty good - 4 stars

I've had the one by Chrimes on my shelf for some years, but hadn't gotten to it yet, partly because it looks kind of dry, and partly what I said before about needing to make a real commitment with time to read this sort of book. But the new one looks more appealing. (and thanks to happy for saying it is a 4-star!)
