Thanks for the welcome, Karen & Liz , and also for the quick replies.
I'm wondering if you could direct me as to how to get my readerboard name on your list ,and also if I can count the books I've read in June if they happen to fit any of the challenges you guys have ?
I'm also in the SRC ,so have read a few for that already .
Thanks very much , K

Yes, any books that you read in June that fit a task can be used! Your name will be added to the readerboard after you've posted a book in the RwS Completed Tasks - Summer 2014 thread. It usually is updated once a week.

Thanks, sounds great :)

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments Welcome, Kaye! Reading with Style began as an offshoot from SRC, but has developed into its own little "animal." We hope you enjoy it here!

message 105: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Elizabeth
Would you say the majority of your members are part of both groups ,or a mixture ?
The Summer challenge ( for SRC) is the first one I'm doing since being in GR ..
Thank you , K

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments I think it must be a mixture, perhaps now, after 4+ years, more leaning toward fewer SRC, but I don't truly know, Kaye.

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5272 comments I know quite a few of us are in both because I see the same people and books pop up on the completed tasks lists for both groups;)

Part of the challenge for me is to read and fit books that count for both challenges!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 2595 comments Welcome Kaye. I hope you like it here. Just take things
one book at a time. It';s all about reading books and having fun.

Marie (mariealex) | 1096 comments Hello,
I realized I had never posted here although I've been part of the challenges for some time now!

So my name is Marie, I am from France, I live in the Paris suburbs with my man & two kids (5 years old between them), and "thanks to" (hum) my long commutes to work (I'm a project manager in an IT consulting company), I manage to have time to read.
I've always loved to read (unfortunately except the year the french academic system made me read Confessions by Jean-Jacques Rousseau), and I enjoy almost anything in contemporary fiction ; non-fiction and classics are not the books I'd naturally choose, so that's where I try to push myself with the challenges.

message 111: by Karen Michele (new)

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5272 comments Welcome officially, Marie! I love Paris and have visited twice. Now that I'm retiring, I hope to be back someday.

Debra (revdev) | 26 comments Hi, I'm Debra. I just started with this group a few weeks ago and am finding my way around, stumbling around calculating points, and just enjoying a good read. I am working on my Doctor of Ministry degree and so my fiction reading (which I LOVE) is interspersed with course reading in leadership, congregational development, and other such esoteric things ;) Maybe I'll be surprised to discover that even those books meet a challenge criterion or two! I'm an Episcopal priest who absolutely loves my vocation (except on the days when I don't). I live in Evanston, Illinois and try (usually unsuccessfully) to read 52 books each year.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments Welcome, Debra. Feel free to ask any questions - sometimes things get a little complicated. And yes, I hope you might find some of your degree books and reading for your vocation will fit, as we try to have a broad range of tasks.

message 117: by Tony (new)

Tony (glossus) Hi everyone! I'm Tony — originally from Northern Ireland, but I moved to Estonia almost eight years ago. I only found this group last weekend, but the timing was rather fortuitous as the new challenge had barely started, so I just jumped right in. So far I'm loving it, as I've already discovered several superb books I'd likely not have read otherwise, and there are a few others, that have been on my To Read list for forever, that this will hopefully prompt me to finally get around to. I'm always on the lookout for interesting things to read, and this thematic approach appeals to me much more than the traditional "This week we'll all read ..." book-club version.

message 118: by Karen Michele (new)

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5272 comments It's great to have you in the group, Tony. I've already added to my TBR reading your reviews.

And welcome to the group!

Claire Jefferies (clairesjefferies) | 157 comments Hello all - my name is Claire and I currently live in Raleigh, NC with my husband and three dogs. I've been a member of Goodreads since 2007, but until this year I haven't really been active on the site. I was a huge bookworm as a kid and studied English in college so I've always loved books, but for several years I kind of lost my passion for reading. This year, I challenged myself to read 34 books (I turned 34 this year), and since then I've surpassed that challenge and become obsessed with Goodreads in the process. I'm really enjoying the RwS tasks, although fall is a super busy time at work so I've had a slow start. I'm excited to challenge myself to read stuff I'm not normally inclined to pick up, and happy to have this group to keep me motivated. Thanks for having me!

Thanks itpdx! I lived in Portland from 2002 - 2010 so every time I see your name it makes me a wee bit homesick (especially for Powell's!).

Liz M Welcome Claire! I'm glad the challenge is helping to motivate you!

message 124: by Kätlin (new)

Kätlin | 174 comments I'm Kätlin, I'm from Estonia but have been living in Finland for 2 years now. I've been reading since... well, ever since I can remember, really. These days, my reading can be Estonian, Finnish or English. I love Fantasy and Sci-Fi a lot but will read just about anything that seems interesting, including non-fiction, if the topic seems interesting. History, science, culture, psychology, neuroscience, languages, animals, those are usually what tend to grab my attention.

Most of the time it seems that my To Read shelf keeps on expanding quicker than I can move books to my Read shelf, but that's okay. I hope doing this challenge will help me look at books I wouldn't normally consider, for example, books that were published a longer time ago than the last few decades, books on topics that don't usually fascinate me so much, stuff by new to me authors, things that get me not-a-novel points etc. It all sounds like fun!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments Welcome Kätlin! When I saw your first post, I was hoping you would post here. I hope you enjoy the challenge(s)!

PDXReader Hi guys - I'm a refugee from another group (waves to Liz & Alex!). Your challenges have always looked interesting, and I'm really excited to be joining in time to start the next round with y'all! Thanks for having me!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments Hi Alex and Miss GP - welcome! There are always questions and some getting used to with RwS. If you wish, post away on any of your current reads that fit the tasks without waiting for our next season.

message 130: by Liz M (last edited Oct 22, 2014 05:42PM) (new)

Liz M Yay Miss GP!

So, Alex & Miss GP this little challenge is very similar to the Bookish challenges. The biggest differences are that the 10 & 20 point tasks can be repeated as often as you like (unless otherwise stated in the task description) and the 15 point tasks are always a themed mini-challenge that requires (some) planning.

message 131: by Sasha (last edited Oct 22, 2014 07:08PM) (new)

Sasha Hi GP!

Mm, themed mini-challenge. That does sound like sortof my thing.

I love that doing this challenge is like playing a video game, btw. Combo! MEGA FINISH.

Jen Hi Liz!! And everyone else! I'm a bit overwhelmed by all this new info... but excited to explore and take part in one of the next challenge rounds.

I see talk of mini challenges, which sounds appealing.

Thank you for having me here, I look forward to chatting about books and finding some new recommendations.

Liz M Morning Jen!

I'm glad to see you here! It can be a tad overwhelming at first, but you'll find it rather similar to the Bookish challenges. This season's sub-challenge is Between the Wars

message 137: by Jen (last edited Oct 24, 2014 06:26AM) (new)

Jen Thank you, Karen Michele and Liz.

I'm not likely to join in this one as I have way to many books on the go at the moment...but I'll keep my eye out for the December challenges. Do tasks get posted in advance, or as of December 1?

message 138: by Liz M (last edited Oct 24, 2014 06:48AM) (new)

Liz M Jen wrote: "Do tasks get posted in advance, or as of December 1?..."

The tasks are posted a couple of weeks in advance, in stages. How much in advance varies depending on the ratio of how well the mods discussion of said tasks is progressing to how busy life is.

Jen, you can see if any of your books you are reading fit the tasks. You can post any books you have read in September, October, and November.

message 142: by Lagullande (new)

Lagullande | 1131 comments Hi, everyone. I've just realised that I never said hello properly when I joined the group last October. Apologies for my poor manners.

I'm in my early late 40s and I live just south of London (UK) with one DH and one DS. I used to read all the time as a child, but had somehow got out of the habit until I discovered GoodReads early last year. And when I discovered groups like this one, the added frisson of (friendly) competition just added fuel to the fire ;-).

I enjoy reading bestsellers and classics, but have already benefited from being a member of RwS by being pushed towards books I would never normally have considered. And I have enjoyed writing reviews for points too, as it makes me stop and consider what I have read instead of rushing on to the next thing.

Thanks for letting me join the group.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments Welcome, Lagullande! (Do I recall seeing your name as Andrea?) We enjoy seeing you here.

Ed Lehman | 2651 comments Hi folks.... I just discovered the Reading with Style group in mid-December 2014. I thought I had a challenge on my hands when I was just doing the Author alphabetical challenge in the Classics Without All the Class group. That was 26 books a year. Now, I WILL read the 20 books plus some to complete the Winter 2014/15 Challenge...in just three months.... and my waistline is already suffering! LOL
Anyway...I'm a retired Union Representative from San Diego..originally from Jersey City. I do a lot of traveling since I retired,,,last year alone I went to Iceland, Israel, Palestine, Greece, Spain, Swaziland and South Africa. This year...eastern Europe and Burma...and maybe India.
I am trying to read books on the 1001 list so that is where I look first for books to fit a challenge category.
Good to become acquainted with you all.

Rachel W (razzle97) | 3 comments Hello all! I'm really excited to join you guys. I recognize several folks from Bookish/Roundtable/1001 books group, nice to see familiar faces! I have a lot on my plate right now, but I've been peeking through your tasks and sub-challenges for the last couple of weeks and I can't wait to jump in next round!

I live in Portland, OR, enjoy cooking with my husband and find that challenges inspire me to seek out more reading time. This year my goal is to read more female authors, get through some of my TBR, and read more from the 1001 list than last year.

Hello, Rachel! Jump in at any time -- you don't have to wait until the next round. If you like, any book you've read since Dec. 1 that fits a task can be posted whenever you're ready.

This is a really fun and addicting challenge. You can use the tasks more than once as long as the book you are reading fits the task. You can earn bonus points as well. Check out the tasks thread and style points thread.
