imts (heirofinkandpaper) | 92 comments ...this whole page is filled with those who prefer TID over TMI XD and i have to say i agree with y'all i mean THE INFERNAL DEVICES

message 102: by s.shadereads (new)

s.shadereads Oh this is a hard one. Both series are amazing. I think TMI will always have a special spot for me though. TMI introduced me to the Shadowhunter world and I was in love from the very beginning.

Andrea Lau (andreasbookishthoughts) | 21 comments Defiantly TID!

message 104: by Thora (new)

Thora (goldentears) | 24 comments Oh, this was difficult. I think I have to go with The Infernal Devices tho.. I like the characters better, and I'm a sucker for back-in-time books :D

message 105: by Zainr (new)

Zainr (Zainr) | 1 comments DEFINITELY "The Infernal Devices" though I haven't really finished "The mortal instruments" yet. :P I'm reading "The lost souls" and I'll have to say I actually really miss TID...

message 106: by EJ (new)

EJ (elijah_almighty) | 8 comments Infernal Devices hands down

message 107: by sugarsoph (new)

sugarsoph | 4 comments Definitely The Infernal Devices. I loved how it was set in the 1800s, and the characters were hilarious and complex. And then there's Will. HOW CAN A FICTIONAL CHARACTER BE SO FUNNY, SO HANDSOME, SO WITTY, SO SMART, SO ADVENTUROUS, SO KIND, SO SELFLESS, SO PERFECTTTTTTT? ughhh seriously.
The one thing I didn't really like was the fact that litterally everyone at the end was married to their "soulmate". I guess two/three couples are okay. But each one of them? That's a bit... I don't know. too much?

Anyway, despite that fact^, it's still my favorite book series of all time. (for now) :3

message 108: by Irina's (new)

Irina's (irinasbookshelf) TID hands down!!

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Malec and Clace but TID is so much more fun and flows a lot more easily than TMI.

Anything Cassie Clare will have me squeaking and panting to keep reading so I hope it just gets better and better!

message 109: by [deleted user] (new)

My favorite of the two, although they were both awesome, was TID. I liked the characters much better, and it was just amazing. There was so much action happening all the time, whereas TMI was drawn out into 6 books, which made some of the middle ones a little boring.

message 110: by Farren (new)

Farren (mmmcookies) | 302 comments I voted TMI on here a while ago because the audiobook for Clockwork Angel was so bad. I recently gave TID another shot and read them in paperback and omg they were so good! Now I know why so many more people seem to prefer TID and I totally agree. I don't even like historical fiction either. While I love the modern setting of TMI and adore Simon, I rated all the books in TID higher and I'm totally head over heels for Jem <3

message 111: by Rori (new)

Rori (rori_mischke) | 137 comments ahhh!!! Another Jem supporter. lol I'm equally in love with him. 😍😍😍

message 112: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (catherine7782) | -1 comments I can't choose between breathing and drinking water. I love both series, but for different reasons. TID because the story is artfully written and TMI makes me feel a part of the story.

message 113: by Janett (new)

Janett (sweetwaterspice) | 3532 comments TID all the way!!!
And that goes for my love affair with Will! From the moment he stepped unto that first scene, I knew I was smitten! *mwah*

message 114: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey I definitely prefer TID. To me, the series are very similar and I feel like the characters are somewhat photocopied (personality wise); however, TID is everything I loved about TMI without the creepy incest thing. Plus, I feel that Victorian England is the perfect setting for shadowhunters and LOVED learning about the history of all the shadowhunters and seeing Henry create things that modern shadowhunters use.

message 115: by Yana (new)

Yana | 3 comments I like TMI because it introduced us to this world, but TID is so much better in so many ways. First and most importantly for me, I really liked the writing style in TID way more than in the other books, it was more interesting. And the other thing is that I couldn't really decide which couple I prefer because they were written so good, it wasn't plain and clear from the first moment like in TMI and I liked how the whole thing was developed.

message 116: by Britty_doyle (new)

Britty_doyle | 1 comments The Infernal Devices, I really connected with Tessa will and Jem so much more then Jace, Clary and Simon. 😊 Jem is my favourite character in any book series I've read so far. 😍😁

message 117: by Yasmeen (new)

Yasmeen | 13 comments I've only read the first book in the infernal devices so i guess my opinion can change but so far, i like the mortal instruments more because i feel like it has a faster pace and idk, it's just pretty awesome

message 118: by Halima (new)

Halima (hallie27) | 18 comments I prefer the Infernal Devices because a lot more happens in a shorter time span and the books makes you feel more emotionally connected to the characters in comparison to TMI

message 119: by FloorM (new)

FloorM I really love them both, but if I have to pick a favorite it's the Infernal Devices. Mostly because of the characters. The mortal instruments will always have a special place in my reader's heart though :)

message 120: by Siannah (new)

Siannah | 1 comments I love both series, but if I had to choose I would pick The Infernal devises, probably because they were written later so there was more about the story because there was less world building needed, but I have always loved how all of Cassandra Clare's books are all connected, and the continuity.

message 121: by adele (new)

adele (adeleybooks) | 6 comments I like TMI books because they were the first books to introduce me to the shadowhunter world (I only read the series for the first time in 2018) and I just loved the world so much. And the characters were amazing (except for maureen, I hated that girl so much. She was like a mini umbridge all over again). But then I read the Infernal Devices and...I can't. That series is amazing. I. LOVE. IT. SO MUCH OML. It is just *sighs* so good. It's my second favourite series ever (after Harry Potter), it's just truly amazing.

message 122: by Angelina (new)

Angelina (avirgobookworm) | 3 comments I absolutely love both series and everything that Cassandra Clare writes in general but I have to say TID is my favourite out of all the series. I just love Tessa, Will and Jem and connect to them so much more than the characters in TMI. I mean I love them both but Will Herondale-I mean...

message 123: by Agamya (last edited Jan 14, 2020 09:06PM) (new)

Agamya Arora (thebookslayergoodreadscom) | 6 comments Frankly, i think i will prefer TID over TMI.... Don't get me wrong both of them are by far one of the most amazing series i've ever read but TID is my personal favourite of all. The connection between all the characters is way more profound in TID than in TMI. And if TMI connects with you at a level of 15 on the acale of 10, TID is 120.

Once u start reading it, u just cannot stop... and after you finish it, the story goes on and on in your head for such a long time that u feel that the characters are part of who you are

message 124: by Beenish (new)

Beenish (beenishamir) I've heard a lot about TID and my bad! I started Clare's books from TMI series and i yes i did love it but i gotta read TID coz i cant talk about it but ive heard so much and also read in TDA enough that i love tessa and jem

I totally agree with you!!!

message 126: by Marcia (new)

Marcia Infante | 10 comments I really enjoyed reading both of them, but I prefer TID by far. Cassandra Clare’s writing really evolved after TMI. I also love the relationships between Tessa, Jem, and Will. They are so three dimensional. Jem and Will’s relationship is so beautifully constructed, as is Will’s self loathing. I also appreciate the way it dealt with loss and acceptance of death. TID feels like a more mature entry into her universe.

message 127: by haniah (new)

haniah (haniiii) The Infernal Devices is just more beautiful and the characters are much more lovable.

message 128: by Athena (new)

Athena of Velaris Infernal Devices all the way. (Though TMI is still a great series)

message 129: by alex (new)

alex (alexthebookish) Unpopular opinion~ I actually prefer TMI over TID. I'm not actually 100% sure why, but I just love TMI so much. Also, I had heard a lot of great things about TID and how it was better them TMI, so when I read TID I wasn't let down exactly, but it was meh compared to my expectations. Don't get me wrong, TID and TMI (and TDA, for that matter) are all great series and I love them all.

message 130: by Dalila (last edited Apr 29, 2020 02:52PM) (new)

Dalila Mandić (dalila93) | 147 comments I love The Mortal Instruments series, but I only kind of like The Infernal devices. I read TMI first and was obsessed with it because it was an amazingly interesting story (except for the "let's lie to them and tell the main characters that they are brother and sister" plot), that I bought and read TID. I dragged myself to finish the first book, just wasn't working for me (I don't know if it was the book or my current mood), but I read the other two in no time. I did like the TID series, but not as much as TMI. I just can't wait to read more of Cassandra's books, she is an amazing writer!

***Maybe a spoiler***

Also, when it comes to the love triangle in TID, I have to say that it was kind of satisfying that Tessa ended up with both of them, because they are both great characters, but that plot was kind of obvious as soon as it was revealed that she is immortal (to everyone who read TMI first).
