Hey Crystal, no you don't have to read Mortal Instruments first to understand Infernal Devices. I liked Infernal Devices better. But there both good series.

Wessa and Jessa, however, were dreamy relationships. They deal with a lot of issues I think that relationships can relate too, such as: indecision, denial, unrequited love (old school crushes suck), and then there is the fact that Tessa faces the choice of saving those she loves.
Then there is the fact of the amazingness that isn't romance. All other characters are killer, and this series is way better than TMI.

;/ although it is beautifully written but it kind of pissed me off!
I know maybe , maybe she tries to satisfy all the readers...
BUT I'm Team WILL ALL the way!!!
And I don't believe believe that one can love two people equally at once.
Throughout the book, I was look "Tessa, pick one! pick one!"
I really couldn't accept the fact that Tessa's STILL IN LOVE with Jem even when she's married to Will.
What if Jem didn't need to die? What if he didn't have to become a SB? Would she have chosen Will?
(I'd consider it as a Sad ending maybe?)
I guess TMI is a happy ending?
(Haven't finished) (But I prefer happy ending)

I agree. I would have liked it better without the epilogue.

^I totally agree with you. I love Will too! I was so much in grief that Will died and he was so old whereas Tessa remained young. I wish they had grown old together :(
Then she went off with Jem and..I just felt bad for Will.
Jem was indeed an amazing character but I really wanted him to stay as the ‘best friend' of both Tessa and Will. Perhaps a miraculous cure was found for him? And he finds a new girl ;).....

In TMI, after the third book, and realising there were more books, I felt kinda like really? the author's writing more? I thought it was finished (because Valentine dies, you know and Sebastion sorta dies but doesn't). And I was like, well, great more books, but also like is it necessary? But I suppose if there wasn't more books there would be less Clary and Jace moments. I felt like in the three books, what, they are brother and sister? and how it was obvious that they would be together in the end and how they should have found out faster but I suppose it is just part of the plot. I skipped the 2nd book entirely because I couldn't get it and I thought I might miss some important stuff, though the only thing important was Simon turning into a vampire. I felt some of the fourth and fifth book was dragging-ish. Anyway, as for characters, I really liked Tessa, she was cool. And Will and Jem. I liked Clary too, but sometimes I felt she was a bit annoying, if I can say that. Though, Jace is very funny. Still, I really liked TMI as well, especially the ending, where all the characters are together and happy, and Magnus and Alec are together. And I was like, wait what, Simon becomes a shadowhunter? lol. I felt sad though because he and Isabelle have to semi-start again. And the author writing Emma and Julian who we hadn't heard of before into the last book, which also sets them up for a new series, was interesting.

I mean, just saying "Will Herondale" should be reason enough (I like Jace, but Will is a hundred times better)... but there's not just that.
I generally don't like love triangles, because they often end up being boring and the protagonists like to choose the one I am not rooting for... but when they are done well, like in TID, I can't help but loving them! I like Wessa more than Jessa - Will and Tessa seem to be made for each other! - but there's a sort of balance in the dynamics between the 3 of them, they all love each other, whether it be romantically or a "familiar" bond.
Tessa, Will and Jem were all interesting characters, with their faults and their qualities, all unique in their own ways, but deeply bonded.
I also liked the other characters, like Charlotte and Sophie, and finding out more about Magnus's past.
Besides, it's set in London at the end of the 19th century... how could I possibly resist? :)

First of all this series has less books. And second of all : Jem and Will are better than Jace. And I didn't like this :"We're siblings but then we are not" thing in TMI.

But then there are also a lot of things in The Mortal Instruments that I like better than The Infernal Devices, like how The Mortal Instruments is more fast paced, the 20th century background, how Jace is more sassier than Will in my opinion (please don't kill me) and how Clary is a Shadowhunter.

But I loved mortal instruments!!

I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised lol But it was the characters and audiobook narration that ruined it for me, not the setting =(

I absolutely love both but The Infernal Devices is my all time favorite book series.

But it is how it is. And therefore I think I like TID more. The setting is more attractive and OMG - WILL HERONDALE.
I just have this weakness for the cursed guys...
And of course this series has one of the best endings I've ever read.
