Darn, gonna have to skip half the show again because I'm not done with Hyperion. Although I'm not going to be overly disappointed, after all, I did get rid of my glasses once and for all (yay for LASIK surgery and sci fi-like equipment irl!).
I had to skip the spoiler section too. But I do really love those spoiler intro/outro videos. Awesome!
I've got to say that since I just joined S&L within the last month, I had not read Ready Player One yet. Hadn't even heard of the book, until scanning your past titles. I really appreciated your interview today, because it was clear to me that I'd probably love this book! Ernest Cline was charming and personable, and it seems this book will be chock full of the things that interest me and make me nostalgic (the 80's were my teen years). It's going on my To-Be-Read list for sure; thanks for making me aware of this book!
Thanks Tassie. Also, very interested in Keith's video review of Hyperion - the O. Henry twist halfway through was hilarious, but I also think it's an important point that T&V are willing to air negative reviews. That makes this an actual critical discussion, rather than just rubberstamping fannish squeeing. Still provides plenty of such fanservice moments in the interviews, though. Here's looking forward to youtube awards aplenty.
Not just you, Paul.
Maybe we're just used to the almost hour long audio podcasts.

Great show. I too was trying to decide whether I wanted to read Ready Player One and I have to admit after the Ernest Cline interview I bought the Kindle edition. I should just sign over half my pay check to Amazon. (sigh) I was also really jazzed to see that my feelings about Hyperion were used in the show! I'm uber excited about my 30 seconds of YouTube fame.
Keep up the good work guys I'm having so much fun expanding my sci-fi/fantasy beyond my close friends.
Good show. Just watched at home. Wow, very hard to watch on an ipad on the b&n wifi (although the video looks great on an ipad). Send more cartoons.
I am loving 'this day in alternate history'. I've never before had an outlet to talk about all the sliding I've done.

I forgot Blue Remembered Earth wasn't out in the US yet. I had a colleague bring it back for me from London earlier this year...sadly I have yet to read it.

If you'd like to borrow it, PM me your address and I'll send it out...
I love all of the cool book and tv inspired pet names! I actually just adopted a pair of rabbits who have been aptly named Raistlin and Caramon, after the twins from the Dragonlance books.
Just got to watching this week's episode and it was a good one. Enjoyed the Ernie Cline interview (love his book). Can't wait for more.
Just tried to "click" the "Ready Player One" link above using the iPad GoodReads App and got directed to "The Player'sHandbook: The Ultimate Guide on Dating and Relationships". Not sure if the link has a typo, my iPad App is having technical issues, or the S&L dragon prefers dating advice to 8-bit nostalgia....
Excellent show. You posted a lot of the books mentioned.
It would be great if we could get news items a well.
(My bacteria made me say that)

did anyone else have massive audio issues with the author interview? It was the only place I heard them
Yeah, they were having some connection issues with Ernest. They mentioned something along those lines toward the end of the interview.Still very glad they decided to fight through it. Ready Player One is one of my favorite books of the past year.
I just finished reading Ready Player One & it was fantastic. If not for this show & another recommendation I would have skipped over this book for a long time. But it was a great read.
I am a late-comer to Sword & Laser, and am now working my way through the various episodes. Saw #4 this morning, then plugged the series over on sff.net (along with Goodreads), where a herd of sf and fantasy writers migrated to ages ago when that antique service GEnie gave up the ghost way back when.
