Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You're on a promise for the kids now. You know I'm teaching four classes of five year olds, right?

message 3402: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I never tried ENT, but I decided to see how I'd do, just on the free ones. Basically it was one way of putting in a base line and seeing if the paid for ones were actually worth it

Two or three 2 litre tubs of lakeland icecream (it's nice) and a bumper back of cornets,I think we can cope.

Just so long as you don't ask H&SE for advice, or talk to the local education authority :-)

Jim | 21813 comments Just to say that I think today is the last day of the free promotion, so get it now

Jim | 21813 comments Looking at the exercise, spending no money at all Justice 4.1 has hit Amazon rank 761 in .co.uk and 1104 on .com

It strikes me that there is no way I could get onto the top twenty of ALL books, but more importantly, in the sub-genres, I'm probably going to be in the top 20 for those genres for the three days. So anybody looking for that genre, then I'm going to be on the first page.
So I'm not sure how much extra I'd have got spending money.

Still no sales but I wouldn't expect any yet anyway. After all nobody is going to buy Justice 4.1 when it's free and people have to get round to reading it before they can be tempted into buying War 2.2

Richard Martinus | 551 comments I don't know if you've noticed, Jim, but you're in the top spot on Amazon DE for English language space opera.

I recommend going on a joint book-signing tour with David Hasselhoff.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments They can dress up in Baywatch costumes.

Richard Martinus | 551 comments I was under the impression monokinis were de rigeur for all the men of this group. Why did nobody tell me?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Are you saying this tread is Borat?

message 3413: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Thanks for that one Richard, I'd missed it entirely

Inordinately proud

Yes, I'm embarrassingly chuffed to bits over it :-)

It may not be a bestseller, but it's definitely and deservedly a best-giver-awayer!

David Haynes | 844 comments Downloaded and tweeted. Good luck and well done, Jim!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Nice :) Well done

message 3422: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Thanks all
If it hits Number 1 in the US I'm going to ask Gingerlily for her picture of Richard in a monokini which will be circulated as a surprise free gift ;-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments There's a song about that....

Jim | 21813 comments Eleanor rigby?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments '.. a face that she keeps in a jar by the door...'

*shudder*

message 3430: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Even now, whilst it's slipped down, it's still clawing its way back up at .co.uk. Still at 5th in Military and 10th in Space Opera.

I suspect that we're not talking big numbers of sales here to produce these effects :-)

message 3431: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Intrigued, Still Number 1 in Germany. So I just assumed that nothing happened because so few books were sold. Then I looked again and realised that they're fighting among themselves for second and third places

 photo Number one in Germany_zps44d8vkj4.png

At this point I could come over all Jeremy Clarkson and scream 'eat my dust' at them as I accelerate away :-)

Richard Martinus | 551 comments Jim wrote: "Intrigued, Still Number 1 in Germany..."

Well, you've beaten me. I only topped the free English language category for 24 hours before being supplanted by something describing itself as a "barbarian and bare-breasted virgin romp". The humiliation.

Note I've no evidence that any German ever tried to read either.

message 3433: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments I've got to admit, it never occurred to me to look at the German chart during my promotion. I know I got some downloads there, but it was only a handful.

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Hehe, could you be the next Hoff?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments G.J. (Gaff to my friends) wrote: "Hehe, could you be the next Hoff?"

How does he look in a monokini?

Richard Martinus | 551 comments Tim wrote: "I've got to admit, it never occurred to me to look at the German chart during my promotion. I know I got some downloads there, but it was only a handful."

I did check for Wanted as well, Tim (from my own experience, I'm curious about German downloads of free English books), but it didn't hit the top spot when I looked. I suspect there's more competition in your categories.

It only seems to be the Germans that do this. At least, my free giveaways have had zero impact in France, Italy, Japan, etc.

message 3437: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I managed #1 free fantasy in Italy (didn't need many downloads), pushing Lewis carroll into 2nd place :~)

As Jim would say: eat my dust!

Richard Martinus | 551 comments David wrote: "I managed #1 free fantasy in Italy (didn't need many downloads), pushing Lewis carroll into 2nd place :~)"

Coincidentally, it was Lewis Carroll I pushed off the top German humour spot, before being pushed off by the barbarians & BBVs. Talk about a downward spiral.

message 3439: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments The Italians have ignored me totally. Obviously I appeal more to the Teutonic mindset :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments You don't want any Mafia attention!

Jim | 21813 comments Which is true
But given Haldar and his line of work, it might be the sort of thing he thrives on?

message 3442: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments And the book is no longer free. The end seemed to be a bit erratic, different in different places

Usually, it does follow time zones.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments One of my friends here is Russian/Australian with German citizenship. I'm sure there's no connection to his Amazon account and your showing there. :D

Don't I have interesting friends?

message 3445: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Wow! My book has never sold on Amazon Germany. It's beginning to shift in Canada occasionally though - thanks Patti - and in Australia but it's never hit the number one spot outside the obscure category in the US where it's always number 1 because it's the only free book in it.

Nice going Jim.

Cheers

MTM

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Don't thank me. All I do is talk about books I've enjoyed. You're the ones who do the writing.

message 3447: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Yes, but you talk about them. That counts for a lot. Personal recommendation is the one that matters!
