Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Questions from Pat (Scorpio)

Anyway, I would like some feedback on new Quizzes please.
How often would you be likely to 'do' a quiz?
One a month or once every two months?
One based on a free book? or a favorite read?
Any other suggestions?
Not fussed anyway?

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Quizzes are fun no matter what the topic (within reason, we don't want any SAP quizzes) :o)

And I like not having them too often, it keeps it fun and a little bit more special.

message 4: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I don't know what it is either but Simon is always complaining about it. Doesn't sound fun.

message 5: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments i know that the funds for the quizes comes from the money made from the group shop thingie, so i guess the frequency of the quizez should really be linked to how much funds we accumulate...

like at the moment (plus however long it takes for the money to come in) i would assume we would get a spike in our earnings cos of the Jubilee sale ...

also, how often is Pat wanting to do them... cos I do appreciate the amount of work that goes in to running them...

as for what they are based on, i think the variety of quizes we have had so far has been excellent and i would say "it ain't broke, don't try fix it!" :)

eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya) | 8545 comments just a technicality on that one kath and pat if you didn't buy or read the book on the last quiz you could not join in.

message 7: by Kath (last edited May 25, 2012 01:57AM) (new)

Kath | 1233 comments that's why i mentioned "variety"
cos with the best will in the world, you aint ever gonna please everyone with every quiz...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I really enjoy the quizzes and its good to have a variety of different ones. Like eastwood said the last one meant you had to read the book (great book, so I wasn;t complaining) so maybe the next one should be easily accessable.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Exactly so, Eastwood, but one of reasons Katie's book was used was because it free to download for a few days.

We did try to remind people to download it as frequently and in as many threads as possible.

Do you think quizzes based on a book doesn't work so well?

message 10: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments I must admit that I like the more generalised ones because I can do those without having to buy (download, whatever) and read the book in question. Maybe if we're going to do a quiz based on a single book or author then they should sponsor the quiz rather than use our money to pay for their advertising.

That said, the quizzes so far have been enjoyable (when I've taken part) and maybe other people would be willing to come up with themed ones so that Pat isn't left doing all the work herself.

message 11: by Pat () (new)

Pat () | -245 comments Thanks everyone. I am happy to do the quizzes but also happy to stand aside if/when someone else wants to have a go.

This little quiz based on Just started Just finished Thread. Is this the sort of thing you would like to see. NO PRIZES FOR THE ANSWERS TO THIS SAMPLE!

May 1st What book annoyed Ignite?

May 2nd Jud thought this book was amazing?

May 7th Mel knows the author of this gripping book, what is it?

May 8th Shaun said Very Poignant Tale.

I have left the dates in for ease of finding, but would not in a proper quiz. just give the thread it is taken from.

What do you think?

D.M. Andrews (author) Andrews (dmandrews) | 1551 comments I'll be spending about £130 through the shop in a week or so ;)

Yay, Darren!

I like the look of that quiz, Pat.

Might have to narrow it done to the first ten, or last ten pages or something, to save having to skim through hundreds of posts though.

Ha! Skim!!!

message 14: by Kath (last edited May 25, 2012 06:55AM) (new)

Kath | 1233 comments or use the search facility - that worked rather well for the easter egg hunt thingie ;)

message 15: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I don't even know what book I thought was amazing :o(

Just read your post Kath and DAMN IT! why didn't I think of doing that!

message 16: by Kath (last edited May 25, 2012 07:05AM) (new)

Kath | 1233 comments :)

i am seriously lazy but i am good at finding alternative ways of doing stuff... the two go rather well together sometimes :)

Cleva clogs.

message 18: by Maureen (Mews) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments I like that idea Pat. I think it encourages people to search through threads they have maybe never visited before. It also gives people some incentive/practise of navagating their way around the site.

I also liked the quiz we had awhile back where the answer to each question was found somewhere on the book product page on Amazon.

I didn't mind the one for Mark of the Dragon Queen. But we might get less overall people participating in those types of quizes if they haven't read the book and have no intention of reading it because it's a genre that doesn't interest them.

eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya) | 8545 comments quizzes based on books is very limited knowledge, because the book is giving you the answers, quizzes of any kind are hard to compile with all the cheating that goes on with the internet and smart phones, you just have to watch some the numbties on million pound drop to see what i mean.

message 20: by Pat () (last edited May 25, 2012 07:58AM) (new)

Pat () | -245 comments Yes, that is the draw back with this type of quiz if everyone used the 'serch' then there's no, not sure skill is the right word but you know what I mean. Makes it too easy.

Answers

1 Sick, Sad little World
2 The Wizard of Time
3 Children of the Fog
4 Room

I thought maybe 10 question from the previous months posts. All from the same thread. Then the next quiz 10 maybe from random threads. Or even the product page one. I woud have to look at that again as it was one of Patti's to see how she did it.

I know I enjoyed the ones Patti did and I hoped you all would enjoy some more

eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya) | 8545 comments the egg hunt was very clever and a fun idea.

message 22: by Pat () (new)

Pat () | -245 comments I looked at using the number one Free book on Amazon. Downloaded it and started reading. Well that won't be one to use. It is very 'strong' from the start. Some might like it but a lot would not.
Going round in circles here.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments just like to warn you that if its based on the sports thread I won't be entering!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments eastwood (go ahead make my day) wrote: "the egg hunt was very clever and a fun idea."

Aw thanks Eastwood!

It was a very all of a sudden idea!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "just like to warn you that if its based on the sports thread I won't be entering!"

Erm. Nor me. Sorry Eastwood, :)

message 26: by Pat () (new)

Pat () | -245 comments Right No Sports Thread. OK.

message 27: by Pat () (last edited May 26, 2012 03:33AM) (new)

Pat () | -245 comments OK, now before I did the first quiz I did a couple of practice ones based on two group books. The first was:-

Goodreads Gallimaufrey 8 Tales Quiz if you would like to do this one just for fun PM me and I will send you the questions.

The second was:-

16 Re-awakenings Quiz. If you want this one for fun PM me for the questions.

I will look at doing one based on threads and see how that goes.

message 28: by Simon (Highwayman) (last edited May 26, 2012 08:24AM) (new)

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments I like this thread.

From my point of view the quizzes are about sharing the store profits but more importantly to keep the group fun and active. Above all I hope each new quiz gives us the chance to get new members and bring less active members back......

This whole group is an experiment and I love new ideas. I especially like it when others get involved so a big slobbery kiss to Pat.

I did a Christmas present of a pile of ebooks, should we gather up another pile of books as prizes some time?

message 29: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Just had a though, and literally haven't thought at about it at all, but why not have a kind of "treasure hunt?"

Or we could play a kind of "bingo" game, with something like choosing 20 names out of a list of 100 books, call one new name each day and then whoever has their 20 first called wins?

I don't mind having a think about how to run one of those if interested :)

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments That could be fun...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yeah, nifty.

How would a treasure hunt work?

Find stuff on amazon or something?

message 32: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Yea, or on the forum, trawling around the threads or something... Like I said I really haven't thought about it !

message 33: by Pat () (new)

Pat () | -245 comments The Bingo one sounds fun.

message 34: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments If more people are interested, I'm happy to give it a try :) We could have several prizes too, like the first one gets the big prize, then the next one gets a smaller prize, a book or something, I don't know :)

eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya) | 8545 comments booooooo no sports thread, i am not happy.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Sorry Eastwood, you can do a sports quiz if you want to.

eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya) | 8545 comments was going to but nobody would be interested by looks of things, maybe when the olympics start.

message 38: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Sorry Eastwood, I still won't be interested when the Olympics start. But I don't mind, that'll give more chances for other people to win if I don't join in :)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Only GL and I said we'd not be interested, Eastwood.

I'm sure plenty of others would be. :)

Doing one for the Olympics sounds interesting.

message 40: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I think the Olympics would be a good topic! And you should do a general sport one if you want to Eastwood I can get hubby to answer for me

eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya) | 8545 comments ok will consider it then.

message 42: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I could do a Disney Quiz! It's either that or a quiz on the human body, more specifically, the skeleton..

eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya) | 8545 comments or pick the bones out of that one.

message 45: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments The anatomy of Disney?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The 'I've got a bone to pick with you' quiz.
