Hi Tasha,Welcome to the group and I'm pretty sure you'll have a fun time here discussing good books and favourite authors. Hope to chat with you more soon in the Military History section :)
Tasha, welcome, we are glad to have you. Participate and lurk wherever you like, as there is much here to explore. If you ever need help please drop a note to any of the moderators.
Hello Everyone, my name is BevI'm really very excited to get started finding new books to read and sharing with new friends , there is just so much information here. Currently I've been reading Military history. Well I guess I'll go back to exploring now :)
Hello Bev,
We have a lot of folks who like military history (like Aussie Rick our assisting moderator) so I believe you also will be right at home. If you like military history, there is a great crew of readers and folks who like that genre.
A couple things to help you get started with The History Book Club. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.
The citations have three parts: (bookcover always when available - it usually is except for older books), (author's photo when available) and always (the author's link) - author's name in linkable text.

Welcome, Bev. I hope you enjoy discussing books here in The History Bookclub as well as goodreads in general. Happy exploring!
Wow, we have been busy. I hope I don't leave anyone out when I say welcome Brian, Terri, Janel, Michael, Robert, Julie, Tasha, and Bev. Glad to have you and don't be shy: jump in.
Hi Bev, welcome to the group, I hope you find lots here and have a good time discussing books with the group members.
Hello History Book Club, My pen name is “Notetaker” simply because that is a good descriptor of me.
Farming and Agricultural related businesses is how I make my living in the Rice growing flatlands of Eastern Arkansas.
History, Biographies, Military History, Persuasion, Negotiation, Diplomacy, Architecture and Psychology all catch my interest.
Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Robert E. Lee biographies and related books take up a large section on my bookshelf.
I enjoy reading almost anything to do with Sales, Marketing, Branding and Business Strategy.
I also subscribe to CD Book Summaries to cram even more books in that are not on my reading list.
My favorite magazines are Harvard Business Review, Selling Power, Smithsonian, Discover and Scientific American. Hobbies are Cowboy plinking and fishing.
If I could start all over again, instead of a Farmer, I might be an “Architectural Historian,” probably would be unemployed though.
I look forward to reading and commenting with you.
Notetaker
Hello Notetaker,
Do you have a first name that we could call you without giving away any personal details - like George, Tom, Mary?
We do not have a thread on farming or agricultural matters but if you are interested in history you have come to the right spot.

Hi Notetaker:Glad you found us. Welcome. There are a lot of important trends/events in agricultural history-a neglected but important field.
Bentley,Thank You, I appreciate the direction.
Dad wanted to name me Cletus Earl but Mother won out with Randy. So lets go with Randy.
Randy
Hi there Notetaker/Randy, welcome to the group, I'm pretty sure you'll have a good time here chatting about books, authors and history.
Thank You Aussie Rick, I have looked at all the Moderators profiles over the past few days and noted a wide interesting diversity of reads. I look forward to learning from all.
Hello Notetaker Randy, and welcome. Glad you found the group and we look forward to your contributions!
Hi Notetaker/Randy, I am new here also. Only joined a few days ago, but, I wanted to let you know that I too am a farmer (beef cattle), so you aren't alone.
Thank You all, Alisa, Terri for the warm greeting.Terri, You will be glad to know that on the front bumper of my vehicle is a license plate that says, "Beef, it's what's for Dinner."
On the back bumper of course is a bumper sticker that says, "Got Rice" to support the Rice Industry.
LOL! Well done on the marketing of beef. :-DOkay, seeing as we are revealing stickers....we have a sticker on the back window of our vehicle 'Nothing Beats Beef'. :-)
Unfortunately. No rice stickers. But I have a 20kg bag of the stuff in the larder. Product of Thailand. Yikes!
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "Up here, it's "Friends Don't Let Friends Eat Farmed Fish""LOL. And so they shouldn't. :-)
Ok, we're far afield. Bentley will be in shortly to take it over to the Tea and Conversation Thread. ;-)
Hmm,,,, I would not eat a Steak from Thailand, please start asking for American Grown Rice.Elizabeth,
I like the quote on Fish,,, however, it will not work well here in the Mississippi River Delta, we have large Catfish farms.
I will make sure that my Salt Water fish was not Farmed.
Randy, I spent several years in the Sacramento/San Joaquin Valley in California - huge rice growing area. Can't imagine eating rice grown outside the US.

Yes, we are Elizabeth..but you were having a good time greeting Randy. But please help Randy find the wonderful Tea and Conversation thread or as I call it:
The Coffee, Tea and Conversation folder and there is a community room where you can discuss all off topic conversations.
Here is the link to the folder:

Rose, welcome, glad you found the group. The links Aussie Rick provided you will be helpful as you start to explore the site and participate in discussions, which we hope that you do. Glad to have you join.
Hello Rose,
Glad you are enjoying your time on Goodreads. We take our citations seriously here as Aussie Rick has pointed out. However, I noticed that two of the authors did not get their due with a proper author citation so here they are:
Ken Burns
and
Edmund Morris
Have fun.

Thanks everyone for the help. I am so excited to hear about great history reads and also make my own recommendations using the correct citations :) I also work at Random House and sell books to many of the National Parks.
Good for you Rose. Just remember no self promotion and make sure to keep those citations coming (smile).

Thank you Alisa for the help! It is good to meet all of you and be with friends!
Welcome, Rose. Isn't goodreads wonderful? And The History Book Club is a fun corner of goodreads. Glad to have you join us.
Hello History Book afficionados! My name is Brian, I live in Northern California and hail originally from an area with quite a deeper history, Maryland. I am not ashamed to say that my first taste of historical fiction was Chesapeake by Michener, and I enjoyed it quite a bit, though I have yet to read another of his.
I joined this book club primarily to receive recommendations for new books to read. I love historical fiction or non-fiction that tells a story that keeps your attention. I love sharing my own thoughts on books and will be sure to throw them towards this group when they seem relevant.
Thanks!

Thank you Aussie Rick for giving Brian helpful links to our rules and guidelines. Brian, we welcome you but please take the time to learn how to do the citations for the group because we have one format which we follow. Aussie Rick was kind enough to assist and help you.
You have moved far from Maryland but both Maryland and Northern California have its beautiful spots. You will find that you will get out of this group what you put into it. You will get as many recommendations as you ask for and more. We have an active moderation team but make sure when they pop in and give you some helpful hints that you follow their suggestions. They are here to help you, assist you but we do expect everyone to follow the guidelines. We would love to hear your thoughts on your books; so please look around and find your niche.
