Placement at the bottom of the post calls the reader's attention to the book itself and/or author and increases the readability of your posts. This is how the book you cited should look:

More information:

Take a moment to read our guidelines:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5......
and the orientation to get you started:

If you have any questions feel free to ask any of the moderators. Thanks and glad you joined us.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book/author. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Folks, once again this is a reminder to authors and others, no self promotion no matter how veiled.
Hi Mike, Eric and Adrian, welcome to the group.
Apart from all the fascinating discussions on history we also have quite a few fine threads on music - all kinds from all places.
Come take a look/listen if you like.
Best,
André

I'm Marc, new to Goodreads and to the group. I think I'll mainly be active in the History of Science threads, since that's my main interest, but I'm also fascinated by militaria (especially in the Napoleonic period) and history of ideas in general.
After studying a range of subjects and moving around the world for a bit, I've ended up teaching (physics and philosophy) in a high-school in the north-east of England. I'm trying to reclaim time for reading, although with two small kids it's often easier just to collapse with a movie after they're asleep... the trouble with books is that I find it hard to stop once I've started!

Welcome Marc. The history of science is indeed an interesting subject. I'm a big fan of math, myself. We look forward to your participation here.
Hey Bryan you beat me to it - welcome Marc and thank you for posting an intro. It moves you from lurker to community member all in one fell swoop.
We would be delighted to have you post in the Health-Medicine-Science folder. By the way here is the link to the Physics folder:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5...
Here is a link to the Philosophy thread but you may be thinking more along the lines of Sophocles.

And here is the folder on Napoleon:

We understand how tough it can be even to concentrate with small kids around - we have all gone through it - Bryan knows about this since he has a small baby in the house.
But with the time you do have - we are happy to have you with us.
All best,
Bentley

I looked at your "law/injustice" books. Have you ever read Gideon's Trumpet

Gideon's Trumpet is outstanding! Is one of my favorite law books that isn't a case book. . .

My name is Neil and I live in a small town in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. (I'm six miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, a gorgeous part of the world.)
I have always loved history; I'm not sure why. But I seem to gravitate to historical titles. Past lives and events fascinate me for some reason. Curiosity, I suppose.
I'm married and have two daughters.
My mom made me read as a kid, even in the summer when I wanted nothing to do with it. She was wise in that way. Thanks to her, I love books in general, and history and biographies in particular.
I look forward to participating in this group.

We do have citation rules; so please take a few minutes to read the Mechanics of the Board thread.

Duane good attempt at a problem book citation; there is no cover, not a photo but an author's link. This is how I would have done this one:
Gentleman Boss: The Life Of Chester Alan Arthur by Thomas C. Reeves (no book cover and no photo)
It makes it a bit more readable typing in the by in the middle when you find yourself in this situation and then in parens I identify the fact that there is no book cover and no photo. You do not have to add the blank icon.

David hi as the pop up window told you before you posted for the first time we have a zero spam and self promotion policy. No spam, marketing of your work, self promotion no matter how veiled.
So I am reposting your intro minus those areas. Sorry these are our rules and guidelines and they are strict because of the amount of spam we are subjected to.
Additionally, we have a citation rule which Bryan kindly showed you for the book you mentioned but we also have one even if you only mention the author.
I have cited these properly at the bottom of this post.

Hello! My name is David Kent Fonner. My family and close friends know me as "Kent." My neice calls me "Uncle Kent, he ain't mean or nothing." I have been reading history books since elementary school. I am originally from SW Penna, I now live in NE Penna. I have an MA in history and a law degree. I read a lot of military history, especially the American Civil War. I also enjoy European history, Ancient Greece and Rome, Russian history, intellectual history, and the history of American law........
.....In the past, I have had the privilege of teaching college courses in American history and Western Civilization. I now teach courses at a community college in criminal justice, including material on the American legal system, criminal corrections, criminal law, juvenile justice, and ethics. Some of my favorite historians include John Keegan, Will Durant, Victor Davis Hanson, William L. Langer, Stephen Dando-Collins, H. D. F. Kitto, Michael Grant, and many more too numerous to list. I am a life member in a Civil War reenactment artillery battery. I like to travel to historic parks and museums. I also enjoy films, especially movies with an historic theme. One of my favorite programs on the history channel was when they use to run a segment called "Movies in Time." A movie was usually accompanied by commentary by guest historians regarding historical accuracy, themes, etc.
