Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

We are currently doing a group read of a Civil War book........please take a look at the thread and join right in. The book is:

and the thread is:

But look around, we end up discussing almost everything somewhere!

Glad to have found this group seeing as I'm a great lover of history. I'm originally from Belgium but moved to the San Francisco Bay Area as a pre-teen.
Some of my favorite historical time periods include the Middle Ages, the Enlightenment, ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. I could definitely use some good reads on American history and I look forward to expanding my knowledge on a variety of historical matters. :)

Hello Natacha and Steven...I am sure you will enjoy your time here; thank you for joining.

Bentley

My name is Greg. I'm a U.S. Marine infantryman stationed in California. I was a history major in college. I have a couple history-related master's degrees, which only shows how much I actually have to learn! In my spare time, I like to read (no surprise) and play wargames. I hope that I can add a different perspective to the group!

At any rate, I thought I'd throw my hat back in the ring with the group now that I have a bit more time.
Hello JP and welcome back. Barnes and Noble was a very very long time ago. And Oldesq is long gone. Glad to hear that you finished your MBA and glad to hear that you are taking courses through Oxford. You were always very much a go getter. Glad to see that you have surfaced.
Just a few pointers:
Remember that we have rules for citations.

European history is my area of expertise so I'll probably take a look in there. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Thanks for the nice wishes, Natacha - yes , I am.
You know Vincent Liben? He has a nice album out in French but from what I remember I also added some of his older stuff from when he was still the lead singer of Mud Flow. Check the French Music thread if you like.

Hi there,
No I do not know Vincent Liben... Ironically enough most of my knowledge of French music artists has remained at whatever I listened to as a child (Mylene Farmer, Patricia Kaas, Jacques Brel, Marc Lavoine, Helene Segara, Axelle Red, etc.) meaning I must be stuck in the 'oldies'! I do know and love Stromae from Belgium and Diam's from France, but that's about it for the new artists! lol I will be sure to check him out, thanks for the heads up :)

I have a beautiful mastiff that curls on my feet during reading time (after her play time). I am looking forward to a summer of reading because I am not teaching this summer.

The group just finished a discussion of a book on the Byzantine Empire and I'm sure if you check the glossary and bibliography threads, you'll find many interesting sources.

I look forward to your contributions to our community!

Hi, Doug. Glad to seen another fan of Rome here, although I'm more interested in the Republic and early Empire. I love historical fiction also.
