Alisa (mstaz) Welcome Matt, we are glad to have you as a member and hope you enjoy discussing books and topics of interest with the group.

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. This is how books you mention should look:

The Big Burn Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire that Saved America by Timothy Egan by Timothy Egan Timothy Egan

Amanda Hello everyone, I'm Amanda. I'm 25 and from Cincinnati. I have degrees in English and German, but went on from there to get my masters in Library Science. I'm currently a librarian at a small, career college for the arts. I love to read anything I can get my hands on, as there is always something more to learn! I'm picky about the books I buy (I do love to support my local library, after all), but love finding something new. I hope that joining this group will help to fuel that interest.

Hello Emily and welcome to the History Book Club. In March, I will be in your neck of the woods (fairly close to Singapore). When I was there last year, I did visit Malaysia which is very easy to do. Of course Malaysia is quite large relatively speaking to Singapore and has two major locations separated by the South China Sea. I visited of course the one that was accessible easily from Singapore.

I do hope you enjoy your time here and if we can help you in any way, please let us know. Alisa has been kind enough to post quite a few links for you.

Regards,

Bentley

Thomas Lawson (thomasjlawson) | 2 comments I didn't do very well in history in high school, but that doesn't mean I didn't love it. The lesson on the deadly Triangle Shirtwaist Co. fire haunts me to this day. I think history books are very important because history tends to repeat itself and it's nice to be ahead of the curve most of the time.

Looking at how far you have to go can sometimes be tiring, but seeing how far you've come will always be inspiring.

Glad this group exists!

Ted Haussman (howtch) | 3 comments Hey there. I'm Ted and thank you for having me.

I'm an avid reader of mostly nonfiction and history, although I enjoy an occasional work of fiction. I was an American History major in college so I gravitate to books on US history. I have been mired in Revolutionary War history the last few years but am looking forward to reading more works about the early republic up and through the Civil War. I have read so very little about the Civil War itself and was excited to see that Battle Cry Freedom is on the list of upcoming reads/discussions.

Oh, and I'm new to this site and am hardly a technogeek so go easy on me!!!

As for the mundane, I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia with my two sons. I love to get out, exercise, travel, explore . . . really to experience the world around me. I'm always looking for a new adventure.

Anyway, nice to be here and I'll contribute as I can (and learn more how to do so!!!).

Ted
