Hi Nele and Mandy, welcome to the group.
Apart from all the fascinating discussions about history we also have quite a few fine threads on music - all kinds from all places.
Come and take a look/listen if you like.
Best,
André
PS Nele, I'm originally from Breda and know Antwerp quite well. I hope you have a great time living and studying there.

My name is Matt and I am a graduate student in American history with a focus on 20th century intellectual history. I look forward to contributing to this forum and am grateful to the moderators for setting it up!

As you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. This is how books you mention should look:

I am in my forties, a mom, and a insurance agent. I love reading, history, sewing, board games, and spending time with family. In addition to non-fiction/history books, I also fancy Southern Lit.
A favorite quote: "A woman is like a tea bag...you never know who strong she is until she gets in hot water." -Eleanor Roosevelt

I am from Malaysia and looking for a way to motivate me to read more on history since I think I read so little these days and need to be more focus and selective.
Hope to join great discussions here.
Have a good day!

Thanks for the responses. Best explanation ever!
Hello Emily and welcome to the History Book Club. In March, I will be in your neck of the woods (fairly close to Singapore). When I was there last year, I did visit Malaysia which is very easy to do. Of course Malaysia is quite large relatively speaking to Singapore and has two major locations separated by the South China Sea. I visited of course the one that was accessible easily from Singapore.
I do hope you enjoy your time here and if we can help you in any way, please let us know. Alisa has been kind enough to post quite a few links for you.

Bentley

Looking at how far you have to go can sometimes be tiring, but seeing how far you've come will always be inspiring.
Glad this group exists!

Welcome Thomas and make sure to check out the links that Alisa so kindly provided and make sure you learn how to do citations here. It doesn't take long at all after you have mastered it.

And welcome Emily. You will find lots of information to pique your love of history. We are truly international in membership and we are pleased to have a new member from Malaysia.

I'm an avid reader of mostly nonfiction and history, although I enjoy an occasional work of fiction. I was an American History major in college so I gravitate to books on US history. I have been mired in Revolutionary War history the last few years but am looking forward to reading more works about the early republic up and through the Civil War. I have read so very little about the Civil War itself and was excited to see that Battle Cry Freedom is on the list of upcoming reads/discussions.
Oh, and I'm new to this site and am hardly a technogeek so go easy on me!!!
As for the mundane, I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia with my two sons. I love to get out, exercise, travel, explore . . . really to experience the world around me. I'm always looking for a new adventure.
Anyway, nice to be here and I'll contribute as I can (and learn more how to do so!!!).
Ted

I can assure you that the add book/author feature is a snap once you have done it a couple of times. If you need a hand just ask any of the moderators.

An interesting looking club! I finished studying history about three years ago and need to make a greater effort to continue my learning. Right now I'm particularly interested in WWII.
Well... That's all for now and have a great day, everyone. :)

Welcome Clint from Wisconsin, Turtle Island from New Zealand, Ted from Philadelphia way (who is also a Red Sox fan - a team near and dear to my heart).
Hope you all enjoy the History Book Club and if you have any questions please feel free to call upon any one of us.
One suggestion is for all of you to learn how to do the citations and take a look at the Mechanics of the Board thread which Alisa was kind enough to add for all of you.
All best,
Bentley
