la' (laaurore) | 9 comments i have read these links you have mentioned above (again).. thnx... i will try to use that "Add Book" tech when i will post my fav books, though i have already starred them... besides, "Can i give my review on any book?"

message 3953: by Jill H. (new)

Jill H. (bucs1960) I'm glad you are ahead of the curve, Aurora....good job.
Our guidelines do not allow the posting of a link to your personal review of any book. Certainly feel free to discuss your opinion of books you have read but personal reviews are seen as self-promotion. I hope that answers your question. Hope to see you in the discussions.

This is my second venture into reading a book with this group. I also read the book on Grant. I am looking forward to the book on John Quincy Adams.

I am a former teacer. I now work in teacher training. I enjoy reading and history and hope my contributions will be worthy of this group.

Alisa (mstaz) Jimwenz, glad you came out here to introduce yourself. Hope you enjoy participating in the reads and discussions.

Welcome, we are glad to have you as a member.

Do familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. This is how books you mentioned should look:
Grant by Jean Edward Smith Jean Edward Smith Jean Edward Smith
John Quincy Adams A Public Life, a Private Life by Paul C. Nagel Paul C. Nagel

It is easy once you get the hang of it but let any of the moderators know if you need a hand.

Mark Mortensen Hello to all in 2012 from Mark. As I have never belonged to a book club or a discussion group this process is all new to me. Reading is one of my many interests and activities. I lived in Lexington, Massachusetts my first five years, learned to swim in Walden Pond and graduated from high school in neighboring Concord rich with a literary past and history of the Revolutionary War. College business degree employed as a sales executive…. Experienced the NYC Upper East Side for a year and have resided in North Carolina for many years with my wife and family. Primarily enjoy non-fiction books, history, biography, military, USMC, politics, classics, travel, nature, but also all the old Zane Grey westerns.

Jimwenz, John and Mark....we are delighted to have you with us. Years ago, I lived in Lexington Mark and have many relatives in Concord. And loved Walden Pond....some of my cousins graduated from Concord and it is by far one of the loveliest towns around. Loved the Concord bookstore. And remembered the late Dr. Francis MacDonald who was one of the best pediatricians around who was also into Minuteman re-enactments, etc. Terrific that you are joining us from North Carolina. Hope you enjoy your time here.

John, look forward to reading your posts so just jump into any discussions that interest you.

Jimwenz, delighted that you are joining us and participating in the discussions.

Benjamin (bebop67) Hey whats going on everyone. I am 23 and recently graduated with a BA in Political Science and History (general) and will be partaking in a non-matriculating MA History program before I venture off to law school. A few of my favorite history authors include: Michel Foucault, Eric Hobsbawm, Studs Terkel and Walter Benjamin. Aside from reading, I enjoy listening to jazz (Miles Davis, John Coltrane) and playing baksetball and golf. Looking forward to some good reads and discussion.

message 3970: by Alisa (new)

This is also true when you cite authors alone without mentioning a specific book. The authors you mentioned should appear like this:
Michel Foucalt
Eric Hobsbawm
Studs Terkel Studs Terkel
Walter Benjamin Walter Benjamin

For the two that did not have a photo it was author link only.

Traveling Diva (travelingdiva) Hi, I'm Laura, a Canadian living in Switzerland. I love reading books from all kinds of genres and categories. I noticed this club is currently reading a very interesting book I am also reading, Byzantium: The Surprising Life Of A Medieval Empire by Judith Herrin, that I picked up when in an airport in North Cyprus and it seemed appropriate for where I was at the time, and find it very engaging every time I pick it up again.
Outside of reading I like to travel, practice photography, SCUBA dive, do yoga, stay busy. I look forward to reading the group's discussions. Thanks for making this a public group!

Megan W I'm Megan, an American studying Political Science in the Twin Cities. Besides the books I have for classes, most of my recreational reading tends to be fantasy - but I decided that I should take advantage of the University libraries while I can, so I joined the HBC to get some ideas on what nonfiction books to read next.

I'm Angela from VT. I work in HR. I have a wonderful husband and herd of cats. I've traveled through about 2/3rds of the US (including Puerto Rico), Italy, Germany, and Costa Rica and always try to find more opportunities to travel.

My educational background is primarily social science focused, and I read a decent amount of social science books as well as some total brain candy to decompress.

I enjoy historical biographies too and always intend to read more of them. I joined this group hoping you all would be good influences.
