Darren, teacher, Manchester, England.
Love historical travel books, journals. Anything that can help you experience, first hand, exploration or life in the past.

This type of thing. any recommendations gratefully received.
Cheers, Darren
Welcome Darren. There are quite a few members from the UK.
I would like to help you get started on the right foot and just want you to become acclimated to how we do citations.
Here are some examples: (we add the book cover, the author's photo if available, and always the author's link)
by Richard Tregaskis (no photo of author available on goodreads)
and
by
Walter Lord
For mentioning simply the author's names; citations would look like the following:
John Keegan
William Raymond Manchester
Eric Hammel
To learn how to do the citations properly for our site, one thread in our Help Desk folder is very helpful:
Mechanics of the Board:

Here is the Orientation:

Here are the Guidelines:

We more than likely will be starting an American Civil War selection fairly soon so you might want to join in on that selection.
We are glad to have you with us.
Bentley
Note: This is how your citations should look:
by Samuel Hearne (no author's photo available)
by Mungo Park (no author's photo available))
by
James Boswell

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. This is how the authors/books you've mentioned should look:
Auel Jean M.

Harlen Coben

Andrew M. Greeley

Brian Haigh

James Michener
David Poyer

And thank you for your service.

This is a truly international book club, and lots of interesting discussions, book recommendations and nice folks. Enjoy!!!!!
Bryan, thank you for all of your hard work in assisting Gerald.
Gerald, thank you for your service. But we do have rules for citations for both books and authors. Please make sure to look at the thread titled Mechanics of the Board. That thread should assist you.
I am sure that you will find some threads that are of interest here. If you need any assistance, please contact one of the assisting moderators.

Hello,
I'm Joanna, and I'm a history student at Durham University in England. I especially love Tudor history, and the Reformation in particular, but I'm also trying to branch out and look a bit more at other periods and places, especially modern history which I've neglected a little!

I'm Nancy. I live in MI. I work for the VA as a social worker. I like to read and the history topics I tend to be interested in are women in history focusing mainly on books of their letters or journals, MI history including information about the U.P., family life. I tend to focus on US history but also enjoy reading about British history.
I'm looking forward to getting ideas and entering discussions.
Right now I am reading

I won it as a First read...which was a lot of fun by the way, looking through all the options to enter.

You had the book cover posted properly (thank you) it needed the author link.

Elizabeth and Essex: A Tragic History by Lytton Strachley and:
The Book of the Ancient Greeks by Dorothy Mills
... and just loved both of them. I'm looking forward to finding some good recommendations from this group and following some good discussions. It looks a little intimidating at first, but I'm sure I'll find my way around!
Nice to meet you all! :-)

My interests include Archeology, history,Civilization, Cultures, Myth etc and because I cannot specialize in all of this simultaneously, I ended up selecting English Literature... so please take care of me before I turn in my soul to Lucifer for 24 years in exchange of Mephistopheles (that would be a fun though) ^_^
