Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. This is how the books you've mentioned should look:

No worries, Paula. We are here to help and the add book/author feature is kind of cool.
Hello Paula and welcome. Please make sure to familiarize yourself with the guidelines. I can see that you have gotten some help already from one of the assisting moderators.

I am not in any way an academic but I hope that I can make a contribution to some discussions. I had a read through all of the guidelines, I will just have to figure out the ad/book thing.
Hello Carol,
We are sorry that we did not see you over here. Usually one of us greets newcomers right away.
I want to personally welcome you to the History Book Club. We love folks who love books and history here so you will fit right in. If you have any suggestions for good books, please feel free to let us all know. I am glad that you are enjoying the buddy read thread on Dimbleby's book. Also, if you have any ideas for threads on Russia, China and India beyond what we have, please by all means let us know. And though we do have some academics, we are for the most part just a good group of folks who enjoy good non fiction books, historical fiction and good conversation...so you will fit right in quite easily.
Just to help you get started: whenever citing any books and/or even when you are simply citing just authors, you must for a book, utilize the add book/author feature of goodreads and always add the book cover, the author's photo when available and always the author's link which is the author's name in linkable text.
If you are adding simply an author's name, then you must add the author's photo when available and the author's link (which is the author's name in linkable text).
The guidelines are not optional and we want everybody to get off to a great start.
Here are some examples if you mention any authors:
Agatha Christie
Rex Stout
Ngaio Marsh
If you are citing a book and I will use an Agatha Christie book as an example, this is how that book would look:

Agatha Christie

I stumbled upon your group this evening, and since I've always enjoyed history, I decided to join. In particular, I've always found Medieval history the most fascinating. Getting more specific, I prefer British medieval history. In fact, I'm currently reading Ecclesiastical History of the English People by Bede. I'm quite enjoying it. I'm going to follow it up with The History of the Kings of Britain, which is a bit more fantastical and a bit less historical.
I'm looking forward to exploring more of the group when I have the time, but for now, I'll stick with this introduction.
Hello Joshua and Bhamielec,
Welcome to the History Book Club. Joshua, glad you stumbled across our group and we are glad to have you. We have a spotlighted read beginning next Monday which may be one you would be interested in. British Medieval History is a great subject matter. Becky, here you will find more good non fiction recommendations than you probably can read in a lifetime so you also have found a good spot.
We love folks who love books and/or history here so you both will fit right in. If you have any suggestions for good books, please feel free to let us all know.

The book has a goodreads book cover so we always add that first, then there is an author's photo available so we always add that next if there is one and then finally the author's link which is the author's name in linkable text.

For the second book you mentioned; I am assuming you meant the one above. That is why we do specific citations in order to assist our readers so that they indeed have the same book we are referring to with the correct edition, author, etc.
Hope all of this helps rather than confuse; but you will both get the hang of it very soon and we are all here to help you.

I am a Masters prepared health care provider/administrator and currently write regulatory and statutory guidance for quality assurance in health care facilities with a specialty in medical malpractice.
I am a voracious reader and hope that I can add something of value to this group. I have certainly added to my never-ending TBR shelf from the wonderful recommendations by the members.

My name is Miren, I´m 20 years old and I am at my third year at university studying History. Apart from my passion for all kind of books, I like writing and drawing as well as playing video games but the hobby I really enjoy is photography, my dream is to become a good photographer one day.
I am looking forward to participate in this group!

I have a (completely amateur) interest in Roman history and Romano-British history in particular, but I'm fond of history in general.
I look forward to having a good browse to see what books other people are reading and hope to recommend a few favourites once I'm a bit more familiar with how all this works.

Welcome to the group, I am sure you'll have a great time here discussing your favourite books and authors. I also have a passion for Roman history so hope to chat to you more about a few good books on that subject :)

Welcome Mel...we will be continuing with another read dedicated to the Romans next month. So stay tuned.

the other book i've read recently is "To End All Wars: A Story of Loyalty and Rebellion, 1914-1918" by Adam Hochschild. this is about the first world war, but has the interesting perspective of people who opposed the war, as well as those who waged it; and their sometimes surprising relationships to each other.
you might think i read a lot of war history, but that's not the case. i usually shy away from that type of thing, but still found Hochschild's book really fascinating.
looking forward to exchanging ideas with the group!

Julie, hi - you really did not miss the book on Russia, you can join in on it at any time. The dates are loose and forgiving and you can post any time.

I took a History class every year of high school, read historical fiction/nonfiction on my own (imagine not needing to beg a teen to do that now!) and finally carried my love to college where I fell in love with the history of science. Sadly I needed to take time off from my last semester (15 credits shy) because of medical reasons. C'est la vie.
So right now I am a housewife, and trucking companion. I love traveling. I hope to use it to my benefit by seeing a lot of historical sites and perhaps some museums. (Already seen the archaeological site at the Grand Canyon, the original pony express building, and some other sites here and there) I still love archaeology but lets just say it would have to be a lot of night digs in order for me to participate. LOL.
So that's about it with me. *scratches head* Oh and I read a lot of fiction, I'm becoming picky about what nonfiction I read, and I have a soft spot for dystopia. So that should cover most of my information.
