'Aussie Rick' (aussierick) Hi Alex Sinclair and Judy and welcome to the group, I hope you both enjoy your time here discussing great books and authors and your favourite periods in history.

Alisa (mstaz) Hello Carrie, glad you found us and hope you enjoy your experience here. You are among many other fans of history and the TBR pile grows for all of us. Please participate wherever and whenever you can, we look forward to your contributions too. Sounds like you have your hands full, and we are happy to be part of where you spend your spare time!

As you get started, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. An example:

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot Rebecca Skloot Rebecca Skloot

Victoria Martinez (victoriamartinez) | 4 comments Hi Everyone,
I am fairly new to Goodreads so am finding my way around and getting to know the groups, etc. I am a passionate researcher, reader and writer of history. I generally prefer nonfiction, but am open to excellent fiction and have several favorites in that genre. I currently live in Texas with my husband and our two cats. We are both freelancers and work at home. My husband as a translator and interpreter and I as an author and public relations professional. Look forward to getting to know everyone and figuring things out.
Best,
Victoria "Tori" Martinez

Hello Pudding,

Welcome to the History Book Club. We love folks who love books and history here so you will fit right in. If you have any suggestions for good books, please feel free to let us all know.

Just to help you get started: whenever citing any books and/or even when you are simply citing just authors, you must for a book, utilize the add book/author feature of goodreads and always add the book cover, the author's photo when available and always the author's link which is the author's name in linkable text.

If you are adding simply an author's name, then you must add the author's photo when available and the author's link (which is the author's name in linkable text). However, you did a great job with the very first citation you did. Well done.

The guidelines are not optional and we want everybody to get off to a great start.

Here are some examples if you mention any authors:

Agatha Christie Agatha Christie

Rex Stout Rex Stout

Ngaio Marsh Ngaio Marsh

If you are citing a book and I will use an Agatha Christie book as an example, this is how that book would look:

Elephants Can Remember by Agatha Christie by Agatha Christie Agatha Christie

If you would like to take a look at our rules and guidelines and orientation; here are a few links:

Guidelines

Orientation

We are delighted to have you and hope you will enjoy yourself here. You may want to make the acquaintance of assisting moderators Aussie Rick and Michael who are both from down your way.

Kate (milakate) Hi, my name is Kate. I am a Biology and Chemistry student, pre-Med. I have always enjoyed history, but, despite that, I have not read many non-fiction history books. I'd like to delve into this area a bit more, and I was very excited to see the medical history books listed on the group bookshelf. I look forward to reading more books within this genre! I am currently reading
The American Plague The Untold Story of Yellow Fever, the Epidemic that Shaped Our History by Molly Caldwell Crosby by Molly Caldwell Crosby. (No picture was available for the author)
Medical history (especially pertaining to medical developments during times of war) is my especial forte. Thanks!

Joe (joe_joe) Hello, my name is Joe. I've always been an avid reader but history has never been much of an interest until recently. I am especially interested in British history (and the men behind it), particularly the Industrial Revolution and colonialism. I just don't understand how such a small group of people could grow so powerful. And why wouldn't the people rebel?

I'm a particular fan of rabble rousers, so in answer to your question of why wouldn't people rebel, I dont' have the answers but it's part of why I love reading about history so much, to understand those who do rebel as much as to understand those who have so much power. Michelle Carey H. | 14 comments Hi, my name is Michelle. My interest in reading about history started with trying to go back in time with religious history, especially the Reformation. Of course, that wasn't far enough back, so I found myself more interested in how things have become as they are.

I have enjoyed reading about the issues in the Middle East and clearly see the same battles continue- maybe different countries, different sides and they affect on current day issues.

I enjoy the bigger picture of how all of the events in history have led us where we are now. I completely understand the term - history repeats itself! Russia is also of interest, with the proximity of the middle eastern countries and oil!

I am lacking in interest of American history and the Asian Countries including China. I hope this reading group will expose me to the types of history I have so far - had only minimal interest.

I have a college degree and I am in pharmaceutical sales- so I am no academic lol.
