Hello - my name is Kay and I live in Wiltshire in England (not far from Stonehenge). I'm married with two teenage children and two rescue cats.
I love reading both fiction and non-fiction and have just finished reading
The Greatest Knight by
Elizabeth Chadwick
I also love to travel and where possible visit places or things of interest I may have read about - tombs/buildings/churches etc.. I have had a little look at your guidelines and info so hope this intro is okay and am looking forward to new authors and titles. Thanks and bye for now.
Kay.

You don't need a title link if you have a book cover, so it should look:

Here are some links:

And our guidelines:

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask us moderators. I look forward to your postings.
Welcome Kay, we are glad to have you with us. Thank you for reading the guidelines first and making a great first citation effort.
Thank you also to Bryan for giving some great assistance to Kay.

Bryan, although maybe not necessary, I personally prefer the link next to the cover. That way you don't need to scroll across it to see the title - it's already there.

Andre, this may be your preference but Bryan is right; it is not necessary and may confuse some folks. But adding extra bits is not a violation.
We expect only the bookcover, the author's photo when available and always the author's link and you have those above and more. If you have what we require which you do then it is OK to add more if you know the difference.
However all newbies this is how the books that Andre has cited should look according to our guidelines:
by Bob Shepherd
and
by
Andy McNab
Also, Bryan is trying to set the record straight for our newcomers as to what our guidelines expect so please do not counter his good intentions. I do realize that you have a personal preference where you want to add extra bits; but we are trying to get folks to understand what the basics are and what is minimally necessary.
Thanks as always,
Bentley

Hi Jill, you move very fast but I wanted to stop your citing books until you were aware of our rules and guidelines which are not onerous but help utilize our goodreads software and its power to populate the site correctly.
Whenever citing any books and/or even when you are simply citing just authors like you did in post 2892 above, you must for a book, utilize the add book/author feature of goodreads and always add the book cover, the author's photo when available and always the author's link which is the author's name in linkable text.
If you are adding simply an author's name as you did in post 2892, then you must add the author's photo when available and the author's link (which is the author's name in linkable text).
We are not singling you out, because if you look above for every newbie all of the assisting moderators always cite the links to our rules and guidelines for every new person. The guidelines are not optional and we want everybody to get off to a great start. You were just a little faster than most newbies and have already posted in multiple places before we could remind you of our guidelines. If you could go back and edit your posts, that would be helpful and save our moderators a great deal of time.
For the authors you cited in 2892, they should be cited this way:
Agatha Christie
Rex Stout
Ngaio Marsh
If you are citing a book and I will use an Agatha Christie book as an example, this is how that book would look:
by
Agatha Christie

Jill, we are all history lovers so you have found the right place. West Virginia is one state that I have never traveled to; although I have driven through the state. It sounds like a lovely spot. If you are a military history buff; I am sure that you will soon get to know one of our assisting moderators - Aussie Rick. I like a good crime novel or mystery too now and again so you have found a like-minded group. Welcome.

My name is Brett and I'm 24 years old. I'm new to good reads and to this group. I don't really know where to start out with this group, but I'm glad I found it. Whenever I talk about history with my friends they kind of just stare at me and nod their heads. haha so I'm excited that I found this group.

Darn, I read those guidelines and obviously promptly forgot part of them.......not a very auspicious start for my membership in the group. Sorry guys, I will do better.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. Here is an example of how books you cite should appear:

Thanks, and glad you joined us.

Jill, the add book/author feature will come second nature once you get used to it, but it is an important guideline for the benefit of all our members. You will get the hang of it quickly I am sure.

Not a problem at all Jill. You will get the hang of it soon.

I am 25, I'm a journalist and I'm currently studying History in college. I'm in my last year, and it's been pretty loaded, so I have little time to read anything besides my required books, but I hope I can catch up with some of your readings soon!
Nice to meet you all.

Welcome Paul to the History Book Club. Glad you found us here and I am sure you will enjoy the group.
Thank you Alisa for giving Paul some extra tips as well as links to our guidelines.
Christine, we have a no spam rule which we take very seriously. In fact, before any member posts for the first time an annoying pop up window hovers over the comment box indicating just that. So it is hard to miss.

Hello Jennifer,
Welcome to the History Book Club. We have a few group members who are from Canada. In fact, our group is from around the world. Your major sounds very interesting so possibly you can help out with the Renaissance thread here on the site. There is always something that consumes folks whether it be work, school or outside hobbies but we are just a group who enjoys reading non-fiction.

PA - just like our annoying pop up window says the first time you post - we allow no self promotion, no advertising and no spam.

My name is Kyle. I am 33 years old and live in North Dakota. I am a high school teacher with a background social studies. I am married and a father of one daughter. I enjoy reading in my spare time and seem to gravitate to historical fiction. My hobbies are playing and watching hockey and golf. I look forward to joining conversations in this group and learning from other people.
