Harrison Davies (harrisondavies) | 186 comments Guys,

Please, please, please choose an editor carefully.

Ensure that they have verifiable experience, and sample their work before you commit to their services.

I made the mistake and assumed that my editor was good, and now I'm using a second editor to fix the first's mistakes.

An editor is essential, BUT CHOOSE WISELY.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm sorry to hear you had problems Harrison.

I suppose getting a personal recommendation from someone trusted would be best.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments I sympathise with your problems Harrison. Yours is not the first time that authors here have complained about editors. The only thing I can suggest is that you get good beta readers. There are a few people here that can help you with that.

Harrison Davies (harrisondavies) | 186 comments Hi Geoff,

Thanks for your kind words. I have indeed chosen a beta reader for book two, and he is fantastic.

I am looking for one or two more.

Thanks.

Harrison

M.A. Comley (melcom) Been there, done that Harrison, sorry to hear of your problems. The trouble is if the problem isn't spotted early enough it will turn readers off reading your books in the future.

I'm actually on my third editor and can highly recommend her and her group of beta readers.

My first editor released a book not long ago and has received several bad reviews about poor punctuation! Beggars belief really.

I could never or would never take money from people if I wasn't qualified to do the job I was being paid for.

Drop me a line if you want the name of my editor. Good luck. Try not let the experience sour your enjoyment of writing though.

Harrison Davies (harrisondavies) | 186 comments Thanks M (Very 007),

Perhaps this group could keep a list of verifiable editors for future reference.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Great idea, Harrison!

I'll start a thread.

M.A. Comley (melcom) Can you message me Mike? They're not cheap but at the end of the day you get what you pay for and their waiting list is 6 months long! :-)

Harrison Davies (harrisondavies) | 186 comments All,

I use D.M. Andrew's editor RJ locksley.

I based my decision on several things, a couple were, an edited sample 1000 words of my work was provided for free, so I could check the quality of work, and I could pay in installments.

Word of mouth counted for a lot.

I'm a poor struggling author after all.

The guidance they have given me is top notch, things I never considered and were missed by the previous editor.

Check them out, decide for yourself, but I'm happy.

Mention me by name :D
