Having trouble getting going in the group?
Thank you Simon, I've been a member for a while and unsure how to get started. This is very helpful. And thanks for being there!
Simon, I know you are super to newbies trying to join in. There's a questions up top "Anyone else got any tips?"How about a time machine so I can grab a couple of extra hours a day, because I would love to give Goodreads more attention!
Hi again ... well after several months i'm still trying to find my way around Goodreads and finding it difficult! I've had a bit of contact in this group (which i now can't find the posts- aah!) and somewhere there's a place called 'meet the authors' where we can mention our book? I saw a few posts of authors doing this but now can't find them - can anyone help please?? Thanks!
Hi Helena, Meet the authors :
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...
Take a look at the guidelines before starting your thread please..
Good luck
When I put a comment/reply in a thread it always goes to the bottom of the page so I don't see it come up - doesn't flow like conversation - have to keep leaving thread and returning to same thread to follow everything. Am I doing something wrong?
I'm having trouble as well. I've joined in a couple of threads - and killed them stone dead - and started an author thread. But I'm talking to myself most of the time. I've started threads for my books but no one else posts to them and I hate going back just to bump. (I'm absolutely useless at this self-promotion malarkey). Is it me? My deodorant?
Most authors find they get visitors to their author threads if they spend time chatting in the general threads. But don't worry about 'bumping' your author thread. If you have something to say, please do!

I promise people will be falling over themselves to join in!!! ;-P
As a long-time Leader in Guides, the idea of chocolate Brownies has always made me smile. Thanks for the suggestion D.D. - I can talk about chocolate till the cows come home.

I have decided! We will be friends!!! ;-P
really useful info. I always give up on goodreads because I get frustrated with navigating. This thread has info that will help me everywhere. Thanks
Hi folks. Been lying awake since 5am reading Goodreads. It's a brilliant site, very helpful and the people are very nice, but its very congested isn't it? I find it hard to navigate around there are that many sub boards, but I suppose I'll get used to it. I normally come on here via my desktop ( sometimes I think I'm the last one with one of those ), but I'm using my phone right now and I have to say the app is excellent.
Anyway, hope to be chatting with you all regularly now I've made this "hi I'm new" post, see you all around :)
Hi Teekay.Yes, we are a very active group, aren't we? Much nicer than many groups that don't see a new post for days or months.
Stick with it and you'll soon get the hang of it.
If you have any questions, please just shout out. :)
Hi Teeka I have the same problem I have joined a couple of months ago, just didn't know what I was looking for.i had always used an app, now I logged on my computer, and got even more confused. Anyway glad I found this group. I am looking forward to chatting to you guys.

A year or so on from you writing this, you certainly don't seem to have the problem any more. I kill threads and chat to myself wherever I go. Sigh. It's only cos we're new.
I'm also having a little giggle because you have definitely moved onwards and upwards and I only kill half as many as I used to. And I can put a face to some of the characters on here. Joo has a mass of yellow hair and a cute brown face.

Watch out for Elle: she'll have you setting yourself the most outrageous self challenges!!! ;-P
Oh, Anna, it took ages for me to 'get going'. And I still kill threads. ;)D.D. is right, the 'Morning' thread is the most active, It's also the most daunting for a newcomer. Everyone seems to know everyone else and if you post, it's like you're butting in. It's hard to put a toe in to the water when people are chatting about things you know nothing about.
In fact, people are very accepting - and even nicer in real life, if you get the chance to go to a get-together.
I totally agree with you, everyone is very accepting, this group and KUF are, as we all say, very friendly. It's just that I don't seem to have enough time to keep up with the morning thread, so I shall probably drop a comment and then disappear for a week. I do always come to this group first and then waddle off to time travel, which is not as active but caters for HiT's genre.I'm going to try and keep my author thread going - when I think of something to say that doesn't involve elephants.

Definitely a good idea to have a holiday before the final edit - in my case anyway because I read it as if I've not seen it in years!

We could have a competition, Lynda, and see how many 'kills' we notch up and for every one we could mark our spitfires, er, pc's with a smiley killer. Not that I'd be able to find a smiley killer.

I'm going to shut up now.
Yeah - that's the sort of thing! Spot on.I think we should put a warning sign on your post seeing that it's nearly dream time.
Anna and Lynda please join in. If you don't know what we're talking about don't worry we don't either most of the time. We're probably all a bit mad (it helps with our lot) but we're friendly.
I've been through some rough times personally but the group have been fantastic. Although I've not met up with any of them I still count them all as my friends. They're a great bunch and they'll always welcome newcomers.
Thank you, Vanessa. Lynda and I are just messing about really - just like you say keen UKAKF's do! I know I was given a very warm welcome with lots of elephants and other stuff waltzing into my author thread when I first joined the group but I'm not very good at popping in every day. I only took a look at this particular thread one quiet day and found my old (er... young) friend, Lynda, here and I know for sure she is a popular member of the forum.
Thank you so very much, Vanessa!
I read posts but often can't think of a lot to say. I'm not around loads, but I do drop by to read stuff from time to time. You can tell I can't always think of a sensible comment by the way I'm blethering on about nothing in particular, can't you?
Patti (baconater) wrote: "That's exactly what I do, Loretta and look how many posts I've got! ;)"Ah, then you must be able to blether about nothing so much better than I, lol.
Patti (baconater) wrote: "Don't think there's such a thing as 'quality' blether. Not from my keyboard, anyway. ;)"
Diplomatic silence, I think you said!
Haha. I do love the sense of humour in this group - er, I assume it was humour, hehe. I think I'm in too many groups and so I miss too much. Think I'll unjoin some of them so I can read the good stuff. This group's a keeper. :)When I started, I more or less joined everything which caught my eye, but I think I was a bit too overenthusiastic. Too many groups means erratic (I said ERRATIC!) participation, I'm finding. I get inundated with feedback and miss the good bits.

1. Go and introduce yourself here (optional)
2. Click Unread on the homepage. You will find this to the right of 'Discussion Board' in grey.
3. Roll all the way to the bottom of the page and click 'Mark all as Read'
4. You will now probably have an empty page. Now click refresh on your browser and watch the live discussions start building.
5. Whenever you return to the group click on Unread to see what has been going on.
Of course you will miss all the old discussions this way but as you get more confident in the group you can go and meander around the cobwebbed threads!
If you get stuck just ask!
EDIT : The underlined words do what they say they do now, so just click away (watch out the 'mark all as Read' link will do what it says if you click it - no going back).
Anyone else got any tips?
