JKR (jkimberlyr) | 8 comments I know this may sound like a silly question, but how many Kindle devices do you own? Not only am I an avid reader, but I am also a lover of great gadgets. If you are like me you will agree that the Amazon Kindle fits great into that catagory. I brought my second Kindle yesterday, the Amazon Kindle Touch. I love the touch interface (I do believe the Apple iPad has made touching a device an addiction) and the compact size.
So, am I the only one who has two (2) perfectly working Kindles? Come on, I cannot be the only one... confess. I would love to hear your comments, would also like to know what you're latest read in on your Kindle device.

Cheers

stormhawk | 542 comments See you and raise you.

Four.

Kindle 1 - I was an early adopter. I love it and still use it, although, admittedly, not as much as the rest of the family.

Kindle DXg - I avoided the who Kindle2 series, and wanted a DX but it was too expensive ... then amazon dropped the price point, came out with the DX graphite, which included the new Pearl eInk screen ... sold.

Kindle 3 wifi - two weeks after I got the DXg ... guess what they advertised for pre-orders. I thought about it for two whole days before I admitted to myself that I really wanted the 3 and placed the order. I have not regretted either purchase. I read a lot of articles for work on the DXg in uncoverted PDF format, and do most of my regular reading on the 3 ... also, I leave one in the bedroom (the DXg) and find the 3 easier to carry around.

Kindle Fire - Your basic no-brainer. Knew that I wanted it from the day it was announced, and that's when I ordered it.

I have no plans to sell any of my Kindles at this point. I use all of them.

Erin Germain (demiguise) | 58 comments Looks like Stormhawk is still in the lead. I've only got two, but happy with both of them.

Kindle 1 - I was also an early adopter and loved it from the start. I still keep it loaded, although it's functioning more as a backup now. I finally replaced the original battery this past winter and it's still working just fine.

Kindle Touch - Since my K1 was working so well, I really couldn't justify buying the K2 or K3, but when the Touch came out, I decided to get that, primarily because it had been several years and I didn't want to rely just on the basic.

I'll probably wait another few years before getting another, and then I may see about finding a new home for my K1, moving the Touch to backup status. Then again, I love them as much as I do treasured copies of paper books, so I may not want to part with any of them!

message 4: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 542 comments I bought a fresh battery for the K1 last year ... turned out I didn't need it, poor Bartleby was working overtime indexing a lot of new content I had added, and that uses up a LOT of battery. Once that was finished, I was back to normal battery life.

message 5: by JKR (new)

JKR (jkimberlyr) | 8 comments You name your Kindles? You are great! I thought I was the only one to give my Kindles names (Gerald and Horace). Haven't had either of the boys long enough for battery issues, but with every post that I read I am starting to feel as though there are kindred spirits here. Thank you all.

message 6: by stormhawk (last edited May 19, 2012 11:15AM) (new)

stormhawk | 542 comments K1 is Bartleby
KDXg is Mr. Atoz
K3 is Alexander
Fire is Montag McCaffrey

Oh, and I didn't mention, Kindlewise, that I have the PC app on two computers, and also use the App for Android. If work didn't have insane crazy computer security rules, I'd be using the Cloud app there.

message 7: by Randy (new)

Randy Harmelink | 2930 comments I bought a K3 a year ago in March. Before that I used my computer for reading eBooks.

When library lending came into place, my Mom appropriated my K3 because she reads 8-10 hours a day and could get a lot of books from the library. I also keep it loaded up with the free offerings from Amazon, whenever I see something in the "historical romance" genre. I think she currently has a backlog of about 60 free books. :)

In November, I picked up the Kindle Fire. However, I found it too bulky for reading eBooks, so I picked up the $79K earlier this year. I'm loving it. I keep loading free zombie books on it and have a backlog of about 70 of those. :)

I've only paid for two eBooks in the past year -- both sequels to free books I had picked up and enjoyed. Overall, I've downloaded about 1300 "free" eBooks from Amazon, but I've only read about 30. Most pretty good.

IUHoosier | 93 comments Personally, I have a K3 and a Fire. I also use the Kindle App on an iPhone, iTouch, iPad, and two laptops. On my account are also my husband's K3 and a Fire, and my mother's Fire. Seems like I have more than ten devices on my account, but those are the ones I can remember at the moment. Happy Reading! :)

message 11: by Bj (new)

Bj Hunter (bjhunter) | 41 comments I have a K3, named Persephone and a Kindle Touch, named Persephone2. I wanted a touch screen since I didn't prefer the K3's keyboard.

message 12: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 542 comments At only $200, the Kindle Fire is actually fairly do-able. What is something that you use a lot of but could do without ... like soda? At $1.60 each, if you usually have two a day ... in just about two months you could have saved the total amount. Or if you buy lunch out every day at work, pack lunch and put the difference toward the Kindle Fire Fund ... that will get you the Fire faster! I bought mine out of my change bucket!

message 13: by Ann (new)

Ann | 83 comments I also love gadgets...now I have a K-3 and a Kindle Fire. I forced myself to sell my original Kindle, and my K-2, after I ordered the Kindle keyboard, because I thought I was getting a little weird. I also use the Kindle app on my laptop and iPhone a lot. And yes, I name all of my electronics

message 14: by JoAnn (new)

JoAnn Hague (JoAnnHague) I had no idea there were people who are as crazy about the Kindle as I. I own the original Kindle, now displayed, in-box, on my mantle. I also own the 2nd generation Kindle, Kindle DX, 1st International Kindle, Kindle Touch, and Kindle Fire. The app is on my Android smartphone and HP tablet. Finally, I have it on 2 laptops. Much to my dismay, though, I find that the Kindle Fire is my device of choice (I'm dismayed because I thought I would NEVER abandon e-ink).

message 15: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleylaura87) | 89 comments I own a Kindle third generation, and a Kindle Fire. I used both, but sent the Fire to my mom to help her get through knee surgery.

That said I also have the Kindle App on my iPhone and iPad (which I use every once in a while) and I also use the Kindle cloud reader in a browser when I can't use the other devices.

:)

message 16: by Renee (new)

Renee | 14 comments I have the k3 pearl ink, the ktouch, and now the fire.
I mainly use the touch and fire, looking to sell the k3.

message 17: by Shaina (new)

Shaina (shainaeg) Now I feel really bad about my collection, I've hit problems with the 3 device limit. I have a K3 3G (which I got at a steep discount when my K2 died), I got myself the $79 K4, then I was given a Fire for my birthday, and I was given a touch 3G for Chrstmas. I also use the kindle for android app on my Droid and I use kindle cloud reader. I used to use the kindle PC app on my 2 computers, but that now puts me beyond 6 devices so I got rid of the PC apps and just use the cloud reader.

I actually use all of them, I would use the K4 more if it had 3G, but without it I try to only use it when I have wifi so at home or in the gym.

I haven't sold the K3 b/c the resell price isn't great and my Mom has broken 2 K3s so keeping a spare seems like a good idea.

message 18: by LemonLinda (last edited May 25, 2012 12:21PM) (new)

LemonLinda (lwilliamson0423) I still have my original Kindle but it sits in its box in the closet. I have the third generation Kindle and the Kindle app on my iPad which I use for the book extras, etc. but still prefer to read on my Kindle.

message 19: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 72 comments Gosh, I just have the one Kindle. I don't even know which generation it is, though I think it's the K4. I... feel inadequate after reading this thread :(

message 20: by Karen M (new)

Karen M Just have the 2, Kindle App on my Notebook which was how I got addicted and a lovely Kindle Touch.

message 21: by Tequoia (new)

Tequoia (teeoneal1030) | 4 comments I have two Kindles... I got the first one (the second generation that came out in 09) on Christmas Day 09...didn't use it as much....then my mom offered to get me a Fire..I said fine... she did for Christmas Day 11.... now she adopted my older Kindle and I have the Fire :) and we LOVE our kindles :)

message 22: by JoAnn (new)

JoAnn Hague (JoAnnHague) INDEED! The FIRE is amazing, isn't it? I thought I would never, ever leave my e-ink versions (including the Kindle Touch), but the FIRE made me a convert. [And I have the NOOK COLOR, too... NOOK simply does not compare because lock-down features on the NOOK TABLET, tho... uh... No plans to get that one, yet... :) ]

message 23: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (pg4003) | 243 comments I have a K3 WiFi ad-supported Kindle, a Kindle Touch, and a Kindle Fire. As soon as they announce the "glow" light Kindle, I'll be getting that one too.

message 24: by Summer (new)

Summer I have the Kindle w/ Keyboard and Wi-Fi. I use the text-to-speech feature and listen to it while driving. I got a Kindle Fire for Mother's Day this year that I am now using also. And I too have PC app, but don't use it much.

(I must admit with the reading though I do prefer the e-ink over the backlit Kindle unless I am reading in the dark, then I don't have to deal with a reading light)

message 25: by Katrina (new)

Katrina I have the 3rd generation Kindle with keypad and wi-fi, 4th generation wi-fi, and I just bought a new 4th generation touch screen with wi-fi. Like some I am a gadget freak and just can't help myself.

S | 23 comments I own 5 kindles. Each time I liked the style of the next one coming out. So I have shared them with my husband and the kids. Now we are all e-bookers...LOL My latest read was Mary Monroe's God Don't Make No Mistakes.

I have a Kindle 2. I can't give it up - I love the text to speech feature. I also have a Kindle Fire. Love the color and I love playing Angry Birds on it.

message 29: by Hilary (new)

Hilary | 7 comments I have a 4th Generation Kindle and a Kindle Fire. For the most part, I use the Fire for apps and games, and the e-ink Kindle for my reading. I will sometimes use the Fire for reading in bed, though. I've found that if I turn the brightness all the way down, I can still read and not keep my hubby awake.

Me too! But if or when the kindle fire can be used in Bermuda I might buy it.

message 32: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (bookfairy76) I have a 3rd gen. Kindle eReader w/keyboard and I also have a Kindle Fire. I use the Kindle Fire for the web, games and apps and the Kindle eReader for reading. I love them both!

message 33: by Michael (new)

Michael | 15 comments I have just bought a Kindle Touch...I think this will do it for me. I have shortly thought about buying a Kindle DX instead, but then I have seen that the battery life of the Kindle Touch is much better not to mention the price. Besides of that I just own a Sony Ereader Pocket PRS-300, a very basic ereader...a 2010 modells so I have thought I would also like access to the Amazon ebook selection and newspaper etc..it's just a pity that they force you to buy monthly subcription...2 month battery life is really great not to mention that I really like the inbuilt dictionary and reading function is also fun as well as the touch screen of course.

Has anyone of you ever used all the memory of your Kindles? When yes which Kindle device and how much memory does it have?

message 34: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 542 comments The only Kindle for which I filled the memory was the K1 ... inserted a memory card, problem solved.

Nowhere near capacity on any of the more recent models that I have.

message 35: by Michael (new)

Michael | 15 comments A memory card? Do you want to say the K1 supported external memory cards???

message 36: by Betsy (new)

Betsy Yes, it did (does), but I suspect not many people really used it. I certainly never did. By the time it started to get close to full, two more versions had come out with much more internal storage.

message 37: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammyo73) I have 2nd and third gen. I had a 1st also but gave that to a friend. I use iPad kindle app for nighttime due to light. And, I use my 3 rd gen. For outside. Kids use 2 bd gen. I am and always will be a kindle junky. I am waiting to see what else is up their sleeve before buying the fire and also I already have an iPad so it wouldn't be much different.

message 38: by Grace (new)

Grace Elliot (httpwwwgoodreadscomgraceelliot) | 34 comments i have a Sony 550 (very disappointed with it as so clunky to load books onto), a K2, K3 and yesterday...gave into temptation and bought an iPad - the Kindle app is amazing!

message 44: by Bj (new)

Bj Hunter (bjhunter) | 41 comments My first Kindle was they Kindle keyboard, then last Christmas I got the Kindle touch which I don't like that much so this Christmas I got the Paperwhite which I love. It is the best Kindle so far imo.

message 45: by Renee (new)

Renee | 14 comments I don't care that much for the kindle touch either. I loved the keyboard, and like the fire. I was surprised I liked reading on the fire.

message 46: by SewingandCaring (new)

SewingandCaring (washyourhands) I have the Kindle keyboard and the touch. We have some problems in Europe with the DX never coming over here and we only just got the fire and it's the mini ones.

There is also a huge gigantic cataclysmic fault with the UK paperwhites as the majority of the screens have serious faults. We are talking green and yellow smudges, odd shadows, and dead/bright pixels. A lot of people have returned three of them or more before giving up. If you want one it's best to go into a shop and to unbox it at the customer services desk before you leave and swap till you get a good one. I will probably get a second or third gen paperwhite when they get quality control sorted out over here.

message 47: by Dania (new)
