Haleigh Benson Did Jacob get thrown in jail or what?

Kathryn I read it to believe that Jess died of natural causes and Theo would testify to the B & E

Haleigh Benson But what happened to Jacob?

Kathryn That I don't know...actually, I'd like an answer to that myself...

Haleigh Benson I wonder if it's a cliff hanger.

Kathryn the way Picoult writes, it's more of a "leave it up to the reader to decide" thing...

Terry Lee I agree with Kathryn with the "leave it up to the reader to decide" thing. Most books have questions answered by the end, however Picoult's books RAISE questions. I'm just glad I'm not the only one saying "huh?" at the end of House Rules.

Kathryn It's not my choice for an ending. To me, it's almost lazy and a rushed way to end the book

jenna it's an open plot so I guess everyone's confused. tho I love the story and every characters.

Ashleigh Oldfield I hadn't even thought to ask what had become of Jacob. I guess I took it too much as face value that the book had ended so everything had been resolved. Now I'm confused!

Kathryn I hadn't either, Ashleigh, until I read this thread...I just assumed everything was okay. What I really want to know is what happened with the Emma/Oliver/Henry triangle

Haleigh Benson Kathryn: I'm sure they Emma wouldn't go back with Henry. 1. He's already got another family with 2 daughters. But then again he could leave them like he left her. But then I don't think Emma would want to be with him again.

Kathryn I'm pretty sure you're right, Haleigh, but it seemed rather obvious (to me, anyway) that he knew something was going on between Emma and Oliver...I just really want to know if Emma and Oliver got together

Haleigh Benson I hope so. If it was me I'd never fall back in love after what he did.

Joyce Leahy I thought it was a good presentation of the thinking of Asperger's thinking style. Exciting read!

Kathryn Well, I might mistake any happiness I felt that Henry was finally being a father as "love" or "infatuation", but I would hope that Emma would be smart enough to realize what was going on.

Julianna Well the case at the end was about Jess's death, so that means the authorities figured out that Jacob didn't kill her. Since he was just trying to help it's unlikely that he went to jail. He might've been fined.

Alexis I have to agree with what everyone says regarding Henry and Emma. If I was Emma, I certainly wouldn't go back with him. I have personal experience with this issue as my parents divorced when I was a toddler. My disabilities were part of why they divorced. As an adult with a disability, I understand why Henry left when he did, but it made me angry on Emma's behalf.
