Just my opinion, but I would classify this as maybe "soft-boiled".
Thanks Heather! I find book classifications increasingly confusing!Soft-boiled is new on me, too. Would Travis McGee and Lou archer be soft-boiled?
Ok, definitely not "cozy" . Soft-boiled sounds dissuading though. I guess it's just "detective."

LOL, oh, I believe you. I just feel sorry for the poor schlub detective who gets labelled "Soft-boiled."

* HOWEVER the reader isn't there when it happens.
* AND the main character doesn't carry a gun
* BUT he does punch out bad guys on occasion
* AND there are a pair of bodies that wash up -- still bloodlessly -- in a river
* The main character isn't a chef or into knitting
* BUT he is a former art forger and ex-con.
I'm trying to get an idea of what Cozy really means. There is some action in the book, but it's mostly a character interaction whodunnit. Does that disqualify it as cozy?
