Celeste Ní raois | 5 comments Hi everyone,

My name's Celeste, I'm originally from Dublin but living in Drogheda for almost 7 years. I love reading & read as much as I can & as often as I can, I normally will read anything once it has a good storyline to keep me interested. I've tonnes of books that I need to get through so I'm hoping that this year I can get back into reading alot more as I have slacked off in last year, I joined the library last week also so hopefully it will give me a bit of a push that I need to get me back on track again! :-D

P.S. If anyone has any tips to help me get back into reading I'd really appreciate it & your help.

Thanks :-D

Hi, Celeste. Welcome to the group.

I once got into the habit of watching far too much TV, and I found that when I was reading that my attention span suffered. I started taking a book with me wherever I went, and when I had free time, I would go somewhere else conducive to reading. I found the change of scenery seemed to spur me on.

Also, I wouldn't jump into anything too intricate or challenging, straight away. Read something you're confident you'll like. When I've been away from books for a while, I like to remind myself of why I enjoy reading so much.

Hope it helps.

Declan. :)

Celeste Ní raois | 5 comments Hi Declan,

Thanks for the nice welcome to the group, I'm in middle of reading 2 books at the moment, 1 I'm nearly finished & the other I'm halfway through it, I've set myself a goal of reading 15 books this year & so far have read 4 so I'm trying my best to get back into the swing of things but I don't seem to find the time to sit & relax with a book for a while as I'm always busy or have things to do but I do try get to bed a little bit earlier to read but I'll get there in the end! :-D

Glad to hear it, Celeste. I used t read a lot. It would have been my main hobby, but I'm studying now so I don't have as much time. If you do find the time, and get some books that you really enjoy, you'll finish fifteen easily. Good luck with the challenge. I'm sure you'll have no trouble completing it. :)

Jack Prendergast (JackPrendergast) | 6 comments Hi Celeste, and welcome! On the reading front; I've got so many irons in the fire that it's becoming increasingly difficult to settle down with a book. My only solution is to dedicate the hour in bed before lights out; it's the only time I can be reasonably sure of no interruptions. If I can't concentrate then the head begins to wander ... know what I mean? Any other time during the day, and I've either lost my reading glasses or there's some end-of-the-world crisis to deal with.
The library isn't a bad idea as a place to read if you can spare the time.
Good luck,

Jack...

Celeste Ní raois | 5 comments Thanks Declan, I hope to get the 2 books that I'm reading finished at the weekend & with not much on tv now coming into the summer, I'll have more time on my hands to read, I hope! :-)

Celeste Ní raois | 5 comments Hi Jack,

Thanks for the advice, I sometimes read in bed but only manage a few pages before I fall asleep, I prefer to try sit in sitting room during the day with no distractions & seem to get majority of reading done then so I'll try again now this weekend where there'll be no distractions! :-)

John Braine (trontsephore) Hi Celeste

I'm forever hogging audiobooks onto people, but if finding the time to read is a problem, I can't recommend audiobooks enough. You get through so many books while commuting, cleaning, walking etc.

(Though not recommended: bringing your iPod into the shower, which I found out recently!)

Also Lifehacker (one of my favourite sites) have some good good tips:
