When it's NOT a bodice-ripper!

Created by Mermarie, May 15, 2012 87 views
Mermarie Ever get to a point in a book, when scenes unfold, that in a bodice-ripper, would take an entirely twisted angle by that time? What are some personal signs in a novel that indicate that it's not a bodice ripper?
deleted user Usually if there's not a single point at which I thought, "Oh no, you didn't!"

Gotta have at least one of those.
Mermarie Lol, one of my favorites is, *hand raises to slap the heroine cross-eyed. Lowers hand.* Haha, it's almost like a cattle brand. POW!, edited for prissy reader pleasure!

Love that.

Personally for me I know its not a bodice-ripper when there is no villian involved. Gotta be a villian... always... the more the better.
Tracyk It's not a Bodice Ripper for me if the hero is to stiff (get your minds out the gutter ladies, LOL) you know what i mean - erm like aloof -0

Hahaha, when it's a good BR for me, the hero is wrapped into the villainous role. ;] No time to cut out a villain? No problem, just incorporate his nefarious deeds into the hero! :D Weee. LOL

You mean like without certain verbal brawls and confrontation? He's reserving his animosity? Lol Stingy bastage. ;D
Tracyk Aye Mermarie i love the verbal sparring, hero has to be a bit of a bad boy but not Abusive, i can't really do BR's with Abusive hero's (not hero's in my eyes)
Mermarie I guess it's safe to say, I've read every variation of BR hero out there, in some form or another--but I must say, an overly intimidating hero is my favorite thus far. It keeps you on edge the entire time you're reading it. Lol

Honestly, if the story's good enough, no manner of brutality can dissuade me from it really. I keep myself centered on the fact that it's not my romance. Somehow crazies can make it work. LOL

I agree Tracyk, love a good verbal sparring,Hero has to be NOT abusive in my read, otherwise it wont work for me as that is not what I consider "romantic" any one else in the story it's ok. and got to have a villan for sure..no "wimpy" females either they have to give as good as they take.
