Children's Adventure- PLEASE HELP FINDING!!! [s]

ok so......this children's book was about a young boy (possibly set in ancient greece because everyone was in sandals) who befriends a man who was turned into a donkey by the gods. eventually they run into a girl who is half human, half-goddess (or something to that effect).

their mission becomes helping the donkey turn back into a man. they eventually succeed (yay) and the boy and girl realize they really like/love each other and she decides not to train with her mom to be a goddess (huntress). let me no if this rings a bell with anyone!! i've been looking forever but no one can help :(

Some parts of this sound like Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and he Olympians series (Book 1: The Lightning Thief), but the part about the girl defying her mother and choosing not to be a huntress sounds a lot like Gifts, by Ursula K. LeGuin.

How old is this book? Do you remember the cover at all?

it's definitely not Percy Jackson (I know, because I'm a huge fan of that series) and I don't believe it's Gifts.

The title is something like "The Ac.....s" and its a boy and a girl standing, with a donkey lying down. Cover makes it seem like it takes place in the past because the characters are wearing toga-like garbs

The Arkadians! Wonderful, funny book. I loved this author as a kid.
