Forgotten Book - Thriller SOLVED [s]

I recall reading this book quite a few years back.
Basically it was a guy who had let town after his girlfriend was murdered. He returned to town for some reason. A former friend of his was known as the GHOST and was some kind of assassin or something. It turned out in the end that his brother had killed his girlfriend back in the day. I always thought it might have been a dean koontz book, but can't find one that matches. Any ideas would be great!

I think this might be Gone for Good by Harlan Coben. I definitely remember a character referred to as "The Ghost".
