Haleigh Benson Just following this kids story really got to me because within Jacob, I just see my little brother who is also autistic. And I think, what if this was him? What would I do? How would I handle this situation? Not saying that this could happen to my little brother, but it still scares me to think that society doesn't fully understand what it's like to be autistic or how to deal with autistic kids.

Michael This was my favorite book by Picoult and one of my favorite books I read awhile. I remember staying up late just so that I read the last page, it made me think of parents that is dealing with autistic kids.

Alexis I agree, Haleigh. I have friends on the autism spectrum and couldn't help but think of how they would handle such a situation. This book has increased my interest and awareness in the topic of Asperger's syndrome.

It's rekindled a dream I've had for a long time about working with teens or older children with disabilities on social skills. I've identified a number of challenges if I was to begin this work on a voluntary basis, but reading about Jacob's work with Jess has encouraged me. I just don't know if parents would trust someone with a visual impairment working with their child.

I myself have been thinking of working hand helping with autistic kids possibly.

Alexis I think it's definitely needed although there would be challenges. I'm thinking about how I'd explain my limitted vision to someone who takes things as literally as Jacob does. That's just one of several challenges I've identified.
