Lisa Westerfield Even though 'The House of Night' book derailed for me a long time ago, I find myself still reading them if I think the latest in the franchise is priced right. I have noticed on Goodreads that these books don't get much love in the discussions although many readers tend to give them five stars so obviously they have a following. I was wondering what other series do people love to hate.

BTW, does anyone know the sales figures for 'House of Night'? I'm curious as to how well the books continue to sell.

Danielle twilight is a big one..but personally i like it a lot :)

Lisa Westerfield Danielle, I like 'Twilight' too. I know it isn't necessarily a work of genius, but the books were enjoyable and there were only four of them.

Danielle yup :)

Lynne M I believe the House of Night series was to dragged out. It could have only been 4 or maybe 5 books instead it already has 9 or 10. It was one of those books that could have been shortened so people could actually get the good writing out of it. Of course they weren't my favorite books but I did read them all.
Shorten them and I would have loved them.

Totally agree with you! i mean i like this series but it would of being a lot more better it if there were less books!

Danielle I agree to...it's as if they don't know how to end the series so they are going to milk it out which sucks because i would like to know the ending but every time they release a new book i've already forgotten what has happened :(

Mariama The thing about the H.O.N series is it wasn't to great to begin with, and since it was "spread to thin" it's pretty unbearable now.I hate the Morganville Vampire series and the Sookie Stackhouse series (but I love True Blood!)

Zoë The Vampire Diaries, horrible books.

Ditto.I think they should have reduced the number of guys they bought into the story too.It made Zoey seem like a really weak heroine. :/

Yes! I don't mind the TV show but the books are just.....*shudders*

Melody Evermore

Lynne M To many Vampire books period. I like the hush hush series, because it is something new that doesn't have to deal with whether or not they are going to kill them or not. Just my opinion

Cassandra **The Bibliophagist** I didnt like twilight...but i love these books!!!!! They are really good. The first book took me longer to get through but i fly through them now. I got my best friend addicted as well!!!!

Marie-Claude aka MC H.O.N... It started well, but it's just getting way out of control now. They took it too far if you ask me. And I kinda lost interest. Like many others have stated, I do think that there are WAY too many books. I think it pleases the younger crowd mostly... I am 28, but I love YA novels and series. This series though I am getting tired of... But it must be doing very well, they're going to make a movie with it. I'm just hoping there won't be 11 movies... LOL That would suck big time!

For me, THE best vampire series is Vampire Academy. I was kinda lost with the first book and it took me a little bit of time to get into it, but by the end of the first book, I was hooked. Terribly hooked. After Harry Potter, this is my favorite series ever.

The series that was lacking for me was Chicagoland Vampires. It was ok, but I wasn't hooked and haven't finish reading it all... I don't think I will. There's just something missing in that series and I can't put my finger on it.

The WORST vampires series though is definitely My Blood Approves... Full of typos, too similar to Twilight. The storyline is good but this just have to be THE worst writing ever.

Mimi ❤ I'd say the Mercy Falls books is also lacking... better than these books, but still flawed.

Sydney House of Night, Immortals series... I found both of these were very similar in hate quality. Don't read either unless they are cheap, like a buck or five. Thats it... They both suck.

I think if you don't like the first few books its probably just a matter of taste. If its the last few then I think its the characters and the style of writing. Recently (or at least that I can remember, I haven't read the first few books in a few years) I think the authors have gone too far with the 'teenage' writing style and it detracts from the novel. Plus as a lot of people have already stated; there are too many love interests and a weak heroine.

Personally I neither hate nor love the novels, it really balances in the middle but I will probably read to the end just because the series is almost at its end anyway.

In terms of sales figures, the hard cover version of Destined sold 625,000 copies in 2011. Hope that's helpful.

Marie-Claude aka MC 625K?! Geez. LOL Ant that's just in 2011? It came out in November... So they sold as many in like 2 months?! That's pretty big. Very interesting number for the Cast family! No wonder they won't stop writing! Teehee.

Kayla Love I think the house of night series was one of the best ive read in a long time. I needed something after twilight was done, and for awhile it filled the void. Now that I just got done with Destined, Im not so sure I feel the same anymore. It was very dragged out. By now though, even though the series has reached its "i dont care" point, I will probably finish it anyway, since I have every other book in the series.

The books of sookie stackhouse are way different from the true blood series try them and see

I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH THE MY BLOOD APPROVES BOOK. i couldn't get through it. it was AWFUL

Christina Ly SInce everyone is hating on vampires, I'll list off books that are not vampire centric because let's face it vampire books aren't the only ones that are dragging for me.

Wake Series
Wicked Lovely Series
Nightshade
Wings

Mariama I love the wake series! I tried Wings and I couldn't really get through it.

Chrisna The vampire diaries are a strange series that I do not like - but I love the tv series. HON is targeted at a younger audience so dissapoints older readers (I think) and it is just dragging out a thin story line.

I initially liked the books but it has gone on for too long.

Carmen For me even though I read it 3x the Twilight series was lacking in a strong female main character and a strong main male character. I did like the story but not the way it was written and how love starved Bella was made out to be. She could of been strong and love starved.

HON, I have to agree that is has been dragged out way to long and we could of had a HEA by the 4th book.

Love, love Vampire Academy and the spinoff The Golden Lily, Bloodlines, and the soon to come Indigo Spell. I really love Dimitri & Rose, but Adrian is my FAV!!!

But I've moved onto Adult PNR and have found some great books involving Vamps, were's, and others.

Savannah theres something about the protagonist that is too much. but i liked the books so far, but i also like the drama. its amusing

Daria Lynne M wrote: "I believe the House of Night series was to dragged out. It could have only been 4 or maybe 5 books instead it already has 9 or 10. It was one of those books that could have been shortened so people..."

I agree. It's dragged out and i just don't know what happened in the first book. Too much characters and crazy moments to know what's this story is really about.

Kendra I find this book series is very complex, and there's a lot to it, but I personally love it. I'm on the 8th book, and still have a hard time putting it down. I think this is a book for more advanced readers that have better comprehension skills with the plot and characters.

I don't think so. I don’t find it difficult to read nor is it a beautiful literature. You aren't an advanced reader because you can say which character is which and what has happened to them. I think it's just dragged out but I enjoyed it. House of Night reminds me of Gossip Girl. If you can remember all of the dramas and you know who betrayed who...then good for you but that doesn’t make you an advanced tv watcher either.

I agree! Vampire Academy was amazing, one of the best young adult series I've ever read. And I read a lot, lol

Chicagoland Vampires are pretty dull-I don't like them at all but they seem to be popular. HOn and Vampire diaries take the prize though (although I love the VD tv series - its much better written and fun.)

HON and VD books are badly written and I feel they are exploiting their audience for as much as they can get.

Have you tried the Mercy Thompson series. They are a great were set.

message 37: by Ela (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ela Totally agree with all the comments that say that the series wasn't amazing to begin with, and the repetitive storyline has just annoyed me.I feel the author(s) are only in it for the money at this point.
My other main problem with it is Zoey's ridiculous amount of love intreasts...

Also agree with the comments about The Vampire Diaries. LOVE the show, but those books!! I fail to find one good thing about them.

Agree with Anna about Mercy thompson books, great PR/UF with a strong femae lead.

Wendy I really enjoyed the first five books of the HON series. I read one after the other. The way some of the characters talked did lead to some eye-rolling induced headaches, but aside from that I thought the story was intriguing. Then I read Tempted and Burned when they were released and I guess since there was some time between novels I felt sorta lost and couldn't really get into them. Right now Awakened and Destined are sitting on my bookshelf collecting dust.

Books that get bashed a lot.....

Twilight
Hush Hush
50 Shades of Grey (which I've never read, I'm only 14)
Uglies series
The Lovely Bones
Go Ask Alice

Supriya I absolutely loathe House of Night series! Firstly because I find it too bland and the story has been written in the most boring and senseless way! The characters are to rigid in their defined set of "behaviours"! But that's not it.. the most irritating part is that Zoey.. who is supposedly the heroine and some kind of high preistess cannot keep her raging hormones in control and tends to fall for every new, remotely handsome guy that comes along and thus cheating on the previous guy!
Personally I found these series too shallow for my liking.. and an utter waste of time! I could'nt bear Zoey till the time I reached 2nd book and skimmed through the 3rd and 4th books.. just in a small of hope that maybe I might grow fond of these series.. but to no avail!

Also I think TWILIGHT is incredibly sappy and cheesy for me. I mean come on.. 104year 'Virgin' vamp.. who "glitters" in the sun.. stalks a 17year old girl and watches her sleep (that's sooo creepy!) and actually says those horrendous dialouges!! What's more.. Instead of doing something cool or extraordinary.. like finding a cure of cancer (maybe) he spends all his years going to Hight school again and again!! now that's a sign of severe mental disorder for me! I can not understand what's so facinating about Stephenie Meyers!!
