My first impression of Treadway is that he is extremely smart. He wasn’t in the room when Jacinta gave birth but somehow he knew that there was something wrong with the baby. He’s very observant; he could tell she was lying when she said everything was fine from her lack of excitement about the new born. After thinks of several different things that could be wrong with the child, without Jacinta even having to tell him, he knew it was a hermaphrodite. I find it interesting that although they’re married and have been for a while, there isn’t a lot of communication in the relationship. Treadway said he wanted to make the child a boy and although Jacinta wanted otherwise, she went along with it instead of letting him know what she wanted which later results in her being unhappy.
