Mita (mitab) Hi,

My name is Mitzie and I'm new to the group. I decided to join this group because I heard a lot about TNBBC from another group I'm in, Pick-a-Shelf. Like everyone here, reading is a passion and addiction for me and been reading since forever. I don't think I have any particular favourite genre, but I seem to gravitate a lot towards Agatha Christie or CSI-like detective mysteries, and YA fantasy!

As for myself, I am 26, an eternal student (am a second time grad student atm) so by default a ferocious reader to avoid having to do more work for my studies. I'm from Melbourne, Australia, though originally I'm from Indonesia.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to participating starting tomorrow's new books, and on that note, happy new year!

Robin (robinsullivan) | 997 comments Hey Mitzie,
In YA fantasy I just read.... The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud I found it an enjoyable read - In my six books I'm reading I read it the most and finished it in 2 days which means I was pretty captivated by it.

Mita (mitab) Thanks for the welcome, everyone! It's quite exciting to see such a big and active group :D

Jeane, I've ran out of Agatha Christie books to read and am looking for similar books like hers, do you have any names I can try to read? I don't think I've read any of the names you mention, though I see them a lot in the bookshops!

message 13: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Maybe a bit more calmer and more Agatha Christie than the ones I mentioned can be A Test of Wills. I hope you can try out some of the other writers I mentioned too. Agatha Christie books gave me my love for those. Other names I like are Minette Walters, Clive Cussler, Dexter Collin (Morse serie), Robert Harris and PD James.

Most similar (but I am not good in this) are probably Dexter Collin and PD James. The others are having a more modern feeling over them but are great too.

Donna | 137 comments Hi Mitzie, Since you are from Melbourne you might already be familiar with Kerry Greenwood and the Phryne Fisher books. They sort of remind me of Agatha Christie with a bit of comic twist like the Tommy and Tuppence books and are set in Melbourne in the 1920s.

Also M. C. Beaton's Hamish McBeth books have the cozy village feel of Agatha Christie but are set in modern day Scotland.
