Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments i did it with two textbooks while still at the ou. i could of cried when the highlighting didn't work D:

i thought you had to ask last time because of darrens?

message 402: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Personal documents don't show up on your Amazon highlights.
So you have to plug your kindle in and look at the txt file (my clippings?)
With the Amazon highlights, if you paste straight into Word, it has horrid page thingies, so I paste into notepad or wordpad, then copy and paste from there.

If I haven't got much to report back, it's easier for me to type it out than get off my arse and find the lead :D

Naw Darren n I always Skype through it which is great cuz I can explain why I think something isn't quite right and can also say why I think particular bits are so good.

Thanks again Joo. You are lovely and I'm a pain in the arse.

I'm sorry.

I'll see what I can do with the whole plug in thing.

Sigh.

It's worth it. Mike's book is something special. I know you all know I don't say that lightly.

message 405: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Bloody Amazon, eh?

If it makes things any easier, I already know that there's far too much pork/bacon/sausages being eaten by Jewish people.

It's also been pointed out that I've capitalised incorrectly after quotations containing exclamation marks and question marks.

And I've used the word 'whilst' too much.

Also quite a few instances of British slang being used by Polish people in 1940...!

message 406: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I actually came on here earlier with a reason but forgot thanks to patti lol

i wanted to say that i will be reading your book later in the week as i am going through my current read rather fast ;)

message 407: by Michael (last edited Aug 12, 2013 12:17PM) (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments That is EXCELLENT news, Elle.

message 408: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments See now I thought there wasn't nearly enough bacon.

Odd how we read as individuals.

And starving people eat anything. I'm sure your research covered that.

message 409: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh good Elle.

Elle knows her shit with this stuff Mike.

message 410: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Yeah, but there's mention of Abigail eating bacon and sausage back home.

It's such an easy thing to change and it just adds a bit of accuracy (even if starving people would eat anything).

message 411: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Ah. See now I do need to read it after its revised.

I think I was so blow away by the characters I didn't notice that sort of detail.

message 412: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I'm planning on making it a simultaneous ebook and paperback release this time around, so any post-revision eyes will be gratefully received.

message 413: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments im super excited to read it now patti has me all hyped for it lol

message 414: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Shit. Oh gawd.

Elle just read it. Don't think you have to love cuz I did, okay?

Be brutal. Mike can take it. And the book can too.

message 415: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Trust me Mike. You can take it. :)

That's gutsy.

No going back from PB.

Why?

message 417: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Look, this skinhead of mine is just for show.

I'm not sure I could survive an Elle Attack.

message 418: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments when i am ever anything but honest?! ;)

message 419: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Nah, you can update a paperback. On CreateSpace you can anyway.

message 420: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Elle wrote: "when i am ever anything but honest?! ;)"

Just one of the reasons I love you so much. :)

Oh hey. Got your postcard yet?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Michael wrote: "Nah, you can update a paperback. On CreateSpace you can anyway."

message 428: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Pah, you womens are all a bunch of tease merchants.

I've messaged her but this site is annoying on a phone.

message 429: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Thanks to Elle's misfortune my ego is MASSIVELY swollen right now.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh. So my comments meant fuck all.

Peanut being distracted was a compliment.

Weyhey.

Did you get my email?

message 432: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Nope, not got an email from you today.

message 433: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Bugger

message 434: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'll have my pet IT guy help me tomorrow if he has time.

This is pissing me off now.

Never mind. We'll sort it. I'm too stubborn to let it go.

But you still owe Peanut an apology. :),

message 435: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Your stubbornness is hugely appreciated, so go for it!

message 436: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh, trust me. I will. :)

message 437: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Patti, you had any luck with this at all?

You can just send me the clippings file if you like (I've never actually made use of it myself, so I have no idea how readable it is.)

message 438: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh bugger.

I'm sorry Mike. I've been totally swamped at work.

I'll try and find time to ask the IT guy tomorrow.

message 439: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Okay, fair enough.

I've got Friday off so want to make a good start on the next load of editing during the four day weekend.

message 440: by Michael (last edited Aug 23, 2013 01:11AM) (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Patti, it's me again.

Just out of interest what actually is the issue you're having with the notes? I've found a couple of websites (http://elainevellacatalano.com/kindle... being one of them) that will let you browse to the MyClippings.txt file and display it in an easily-readable format.

There's another site that I now can't find that even allows you to create a permanent weblink that can be given to someone else.

However, you need the USB cable for the Kindle in order to do this.

Is it the lack of a USB cable for your Kindle that is the issue here?

I'm so sorry for the long delay!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yay!

message 445: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Gone cross eyed yet?

message 446: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I think they've crossed and then gone round to reset themselves again.

Are you still up for checking it over again? I know you're busy and stuff, so don't worry if time is tight.

message 447: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I really would like to, Mike.

Just gonna be really crazy for the next few weeks. Send it along if you like but please be understanding. I seem to have only about three hours a day where I'm not working or asleep at the moment and I have to fit silly things like cooking and laundry and cleaning into them...

message 448: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Real life is a complete shit, it has to be said.

Ignite has kindly offered to take a look as well and I'm just going through it a final time myself right now. I'll send it tomorrow sometime and then play the rest by ear/eye/forum.

I'm viewing this post-beta/pre-release thing as a bonus, so don't feel pressured on my part.

message 449: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Okay, Ignite and Patti I've emailed you PDF and Word versions of it.

Thanks once again.

message 450: by Patti (baconater) (new)
