Jamila Collins The first Eragon movie was pretty good compared to the book, they cut it down and shortened it to get straight to the point - albeit cutting out half of the good scenes, such as Eragon actually getting captured THEN rescuing Arya.
Everyone has their own opinion and i would like to here yours ^.^
Please share!

I didn't like the first movie actually. I would re-do it if I could and make it more like the movie "The Castle of Caligstro". The movie seemed very choppy, and now that the rest of the books are out, if they made a new version, all the right foreshadowings could be there. For instance, Angela wasn't too important in the 1st movie, but in the later books, she's very prominent. I would not reccomend finishing the movies, because I feel like [currently] there wouldn't be enough of a draw to get non-fans to watch.

Emma I didn't like the movie. I think it was waaay too different from the book. Things happened at random at the wrong times, some people got introduced completely wrong, I mean, Eragon dreamt of a girl in a cell, that turned out to be Arya, in the movie she jumps around in a forest, saying she's an elf princess. Eragon doesn't know that until in Eldest. The Urgals break through the wall to Farthen Dûr, it's a 15 km tall moutain.. If you should do anything, you should make a new first movie.

Jamila Collins I actually agree with both of you ^
I never thought of them re-doing the first movie again :/ It would be better.
They should do a different director, and hopefully a new tech guy for Saphira, make her wings better :P

Lucy G They should do a re-make of the whole thing with peter jackson, or Guillermo del Toro.

Taylor Snyder i compoletely agree with ^ all of them, it would be really neat to see the other movies in action. They would have a terrible time making the rest of the movies like their books, because of all the changes they had in the movie "Eragon". They would have to re-make the first movie, no doubt about it. Which might not be an appealing idea with the epic fail of the first movie hanging over their heads.

Luke Dyess I think they should start over and go exactly by the books.

Shubham So true what everyone here is stating.
The movie could have been a better adaptation of the book. They could re-try making it, but only if they intend to make movies of the complete series since we cannot have a good second movie without a clear plot & characters of the first movie.
Personally, I feel the movie Eragon could have been way more and way better. Hopefully, there will be justice done to it soon.

Keenan Yes I do think they should. IF they make up for all the details they left out.

Jamila Collins Keenan wrote: "Yes I do think they should. IF they make up for all the details they left out."

I agree thoroughly - if they can fix the mistakes then yes, make a second. maybe they can somehow work in all the mistakes from the first one and fix them

Kathy they should do the first one again. its not bad but it really didn't relate to the book much. they left out a lot of stuff. then they should make the second one.

Astra no way the first movie sucked soooooooo bad.

Hannah The books were PHENOMENAL! i hated the movie though, it did no justice whatsoever to the books. it was like watching a whole new series

Astra Hannah wrote: "The books were PHENOMENAL! i hated the movie though, it did no justice whatsoever to the books. it was like watching a whole new series"

I agree

Stefan I think they shouldn't continue the movie series until they remake the first movie. They need to give it more attention to Brom's teaching of Eragon. Those are pivotal parts of the story.

Hannah i think that if they make a movie they had better take the time to do it right or do two parts...thats the problem the books are so detailed and so long that there should be 2 parts

Samantha The Escapist Sadly it'll never happen. They simply can't continue from the abysmal first installment, it doesn't set up enough story and it didn't get enough money.

And even if they rebooted the first as they'd need to, it had so little interest that this one wouldn't do much better aside from the benifit of having the last book in the series just out. In fact, right now is the ONLY time they can get away with it unless they wait another decade or so.

They could just come out and say "the movie the way it was meant to be before is finally here!"

Barely Breathing Banana NO ELDEST MOVIE! they messed up Eragon as it is, I don't want them going back in and ruining my image of eldest by giving Murtaugh a pink female dragon or something equally stupid...

Mike Burton I agree with all that didn't like the movie if im going to watch it they better redo the first one and do it right and Lucy is right peter jackson, or Guillermo del Toro. are probably the only 2 that could do the book justices

Denna hell yeah they should i dont think you should judge a movie just because the book was better cuz the movie was just as good as the book. my opinion anyways.

Barely Breathing Banana you have a point Denna, the movie was ok as a movie, if you've never read the book, but for the book readers, the ones who the movie came out for, it sucked, plain and simple. Im sorry but its tru

Valerie I say no to Eldest movie. Eragon movie was way off and i found i could not enjoy the movie because i knew the book. What the changed & left out seemed to change the entire tone & impression of the story and it somehow did not seem to work.

Now, if they remade the movie better, then maybe.

David I'm not sure if a remake is even possible. A movie must appeal to a broader audience to make a lot of money. The Eragon movie was a disaster critically and financially. Critics, who have probably never heard of the book, said the acting was wooden, the dialogue was bad. They even said it was too similar to Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. This was from people, who haven't even read the books, noted as this series is infamous for. This all happened when the movie, while making numeral changes, structurally wasn't all that different from the book.

A remake of Eragon closer to the book I think would still fail. Even by some miracle, The following books would be a nightmare to make a movie out of. An Eldest and Brisignr movie would vital have nothing of interest happening. This would bore an audience and I guarantee it wouldn't' draw in enough people.

message 24: by Cat (new) - rated it 4 stars

Cat Eragon make a great movie, even if it wasn't exactly like the book! I know they left alot of things out, but it would still be a good movie to watch! I wasnt Summit to make all the book into the remaining movies needed!

Susan Easton I hated the movie. They cut out most of it and changed the rest. I do not see how they can continue the series with all the changes. Why would Rorin even bother without katrina? Why would any of the characters even bother showing up without any back story at all. I would love to see a movie but start from scratch, and not a continuation from the last movie.

message 26: by KaDee (last edited May 23, 2012 06:07PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

KaDee They'd have to remake Eragon before they even THOUGHT about making an Eldest movie. They left too much out in the Eragon movie, too much that came back into the story and played important roles in Eldest and Brisinger.

Barely Breathing Banana Everyone seems to be thinking around the same lines "Remake the first Eragon movie, then we'll think about the second," This is wrong because lets suppose they did remake the first movie (which they wont) People will go "We've already see this!" and they wont watch it, only devoted Eragon fans would bother watching a different version of the same movie. Also, frankly, the first movie wasn't successful so I don't know what idiot would bother directing/acting/producing/writing another Eragon. And anyway, there is NO WAY to create a movie exactly like the book it was based on because Imagination has no budget but props and actors and the like do. Also, everyone imagines the characters and places differently, so there is no way to create a movie based on a book that EVERYONE (book readers and non-book readers alike) will enjoy.

Sorry about the rant and long post.

message 28: by Cat (new) - rated it 4 stars

Cat Yeah. It was good, but remake it into something longer, like LOTR

Scott No they should not, and if they did they must redo Erigon first cause the way they made it was nothing but fecking shit, leaving out all key characters and events.

Samantha The Escapist Annabanana wrote: "Everyone seems to be thinking around the same lines "Remake the first Eragon movie, then we'll think about the second," This is wrong because lets suppose they did remake the first movie (which the..."

Well when I was saying that the point I was making was how this would never happen, the reaction to the first Eragon movie was so dismal that the guy who played Eragon works construction on and off now, the Director hasn't directed a thing since and NO ONE will fund a sequel.

With the 4th book JUST out and popularity of book-movies and the series itself at its peak some studio somewhere MIGHT greenlight a reboot with the proper pitch thrown at them but that's really unlikely as well.

Of course we all know movies have to drop things from the books but the point is this movie actually crippled the series by ruining vital info and characters. The writers would have a lot on their hands to salvage.

message 31: by Beci (new) - rated it 5 stars

Beci Eragon movie was awful in my opinion. I mean I never get my hopes up for a book to movie but that was really terrible. If it goes the same way as Eragon I would hope they don't make an Eldest movie....
I just worry about how many people must have seen the movie and thought, nah I won't bother reading those books because they're really missing out.

Jenna Chapman They need 2 add more details if they do... Would love 2 see it happen though. :)

message 33: by Yaron (new)

Yaron I think they should start the movies from scratch maybe 10 years down the road like the batman and willie wonka remakes. I'd like to see the story more detailed bringing out more of the relationship with Brom and Eragon, making the Durza more menacing and less cartoony and not showing Galbatorix at all until the 4th movie. The movie I felt the didn't do the book justice at all. Eldest was my favorite of the series and i really want to see a good movie version hopefully they pick a great director if they do.

Marta Oliveira I think the movie was a murder to the book. They cut it in such a way that I think it is impossible to take it and make a second movie, because it doesn't leave even a tip to follow.

I would like a second movie if the first one was good enough. It is not. Don't get me wrong, I read all the books and I love them (except when Paolini killed one of my favourite characters, and at the end of Inheritance), but the movie is just a bad collage of pieces of the book.

Aaron If they wanted to make a movie for Eldest and the rest of the series they would have to remake Eragon, which is never going to happen because 1. it will cost a ton of money to produce and 2. it will be a flop financially because everyone already saw it the first time around.

Deviating from the book to make a better movie is fine but what they did to Eragon was a flat-out disgrace, and sadly it crushed any chance we had of seeing the rest of the series on the big screen.

Barely Breathing Banana Too bad though, Eldest was a pretty good book, the only one that didn't have 20 pages of unnecessary information:1 page on the actual story

message 37: by Jo (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jo N-O SIREE.

Aquilus I felt like the Eragon movie was a complete disaster. I know you can't really go in to see a "book-movie" with high expectations but...no. It was a massacre. And the fact that they didn't even introduce Elva in the first book makes me think it would be near impossible to continue the series in motion picture.

Pajen I've just finished Eragon for the first time (yes, I'm way behind) but I loved it! So much better than the movie (as books usually are). I'm excited to read the rest of the books, but if they can't make the movies as well as the books deserve then they shouldn't make them at all. :)

Victoria It took me about a month to get through Eragon but I will admit it was pretty good. When the movie came out I was about 10, so instead of watching it, I went into my room and played with my Barbies. So I honestly don't really remember much of it, but I think that they should anyways.

message 41: by Gary (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gary I liked everything about the movie except the story, they butchered it. It's been what five or six years. There needs to be a reboot of the series but bring back Rachel Weisz as the voice of Saphira.

I think it failed because it didn't stay respectful of the source material. Once you do that you lose the fan base that's rabid for it in the first place.

message 42: by Dale (new) - added it

Dale yes! continue :)

Cinderela I don't want to be rude but i'm not sure how this movie could be considered acceptable at all. I would like a re-make. Maybe before I die they'll actually do it. So many things were messed up. Roran and Katrina weren't even introduced! She never even got captured! That is the whole point of the next book. You don't even know Arya is an elf. WTF. I could go on but its been some years since I wanted to die in the movie theater watching it.

To sum it up.

No Elves.
Eragon doesn't get horribly hurt in the back.
No Katrina.
No Twins.
No ELVA.
No Werecat.
Oh and Arya looks nothing like shes supposed to.

Seriously Fox should be ashamed and whoever wrote the screen play. This was clearly only made for the money. But they would have made alot more if they'd done things right.

Remake.

Aquilus Cinderela wrote: "I don't want to be rude but i'm not sure how this movie could be considered acceptable at all. I would like a re-make. Maybe before I die they'll actually do it. So many things were messed up. Rora..."

Yep. They may have used the same character names, but...that's kind of where the similarities stopped.

I think Saphira was the only thing they did a marginally acceptable job on (character-wise, not just graphics). Something I attribute to Rachel Weisz.

Cinderela Aquilus wrote: "Cinderela wrote: "I don't want to be rude but i'm not sure how this movie could be considered acceptable at all. I would like a re-make. Maybe before I die they'll actually do it. So many things we..."

Thanks & agreed. :) Also I appoligize for the rant.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, yes I do.

Sophia Saphira's voice was sooo messed up. When she first spoke, I couldn't believe it was her. Nothing was right. Could they even make a second movie? I don't think it's possible, it didn't end right. Even if they managed to forget the ending, they wouldn't be able to gloss over the missing details. Like Brom being a Rider.

Sierra Hendrix Absolutly!

Joshua Compared to the book, the movie SUCKED. But then I watched it again when the book wasn't fresh in my mind, and i was like, 'Wow, it IS actually a good movie if you don't compare it to the book. It would be cool if they redid it to make it better compared to the book.
~Please check out my group, Books to Movies. We discuss this type of stuff there on a whole bunch of different books and movies.
If the book/movie you want to talk about isn't in there, add it after joining please.

message 50: by Alex (new) - added it

Alex Everyone is saying "Compared to the book blah blah blah...," and I agree. Compared to the book, it definitely sucked. And after reading the next three books, if they are going to cut back so much in the next movie(s), it isn't even worth it. In my opinion, they left out too many crucial details (and they casted a few of the wrong people), so they might as well redo Eragon more closely to the book before they start on Eldest.
