message 315: by Wendy (new)

Wendy Hey, Liz...it's Wendy!

Kristin Ann: Love the bookshelves behind you! How do you organize your books?

message 317: by [deleted user] (new)

q Who are some of your favorite authors?

Jonathan q How often are you in your bookstore? Are you taking a writing break while the store still new? And how has the business owning experience been so far?

message 319: by T.r. (new) - rated it 3 stars

T.r. q what are you reading now?

message 320: by [deleted user] (new)

q: Do you envision writing a sequel to State of Wonder?

Grouchy Editor qIf they make a film out of State of Wonder, who would you like to see play Dr. Swenson? Kathy Bates, perhaps?

message 322: by Karen (new) - added it

Karen I LOVE those bookshelves too! BEAUTIFUL!

Jonathan sequels are too often boring cop-outs. i hope there is no State of Wonder sequel. I don't see a need.

message 324: by Mary (new)

Mary q what inspired Magician's assistant?

message 325: by Lorie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lorie I imagined Judi Dench at Dr. Swenson.

message 326: by Kathy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kathy Ridge Well you have tell us your intention for Marina and whether she's pregnant?

Trenton Frederick Anders and Marina aren't villains just strong minded.

message 328: by Alena (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alena q. I've made Ann Patchett novels my 2012 project -- very enjoyable by the way. In Patron Saint of Liars, State of Wonder and Truth and Beauty, female relationships are the key to the books whether the relationship is mother/daughter, mentor or friendship. I don't remember that theme in Bel Canto, but is that a theme you intentionally investigate? Or, is that theme just a natural outgrowth of the story?

message 329: by [deleted user] (new)

q Where did you get the idea of women getting pregnant into their 70s? Is there a myth out there that deals with that subject?

message 330: by Patrick (new) - added it

Patrick Brown sorry, folks! we're having a bi of a technical difficulty.

Grouchy Editor program has gone south

message 332: by Thomas (new) - rated it 3 stars

Thomas q i'm currently a student at the writers' workshop and there's a tendancy for young writers to try and get a novel published, instead of short stories (which are a harder sell). but you started off with short stories. could you talk a little about your own preference? and is there a collection in the works?

message 333: by Tracy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tracy q How did you perceive or imagine so much love between different people in the real S. American hostage crisis that compelled you to write about it?

message 334: by Karen (new) - added it

Karen great question!!!

message 335: by Margie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Margie q: In this conversation, you referred to several "Big Box" bookstores, one being Books a Million. With that, you said something to the extent "I don't really count [them]" But in the same sentence you referred to Barnes and Noble without any reference per se.. 'Bad vibes with BAM??

message 336: by Karen (new) - added it

Karen This was SO much fun!

Christine Thank you!
