No, start with either The LA Quartet or The American Underworld Trilogy. Start the LA Quartet with either "The Black Dahlia," "The Big Nowhere," or "LA Confidential." It doesn't really matter what order you read them in, but save "White Jazz" for last. Start The Underworld trilogy with "American Tabloid."
