Michael (knowledgelost) Decide What You Want To Blog About

There are a lot of book bloggers out there already, so you need to think about whether you want to be genre specific, how much book reviews you want to do and if you just want to blog about random bookish topics. If you want to attract readers, you are going to need to establish your credibility (this won't happen over night, this will take a long time and is a slow process. So DON'T give up). Make sure when you are picking your genre or style for your blog, that you are are passionate about it.

Michael (knowledgelost) Brain Storm

Once you have an idea on what type of book blog you want to do, now it's time to think of ideas for the blog. There are a few things you might need to begin;

1. A Name for your blog
2. Domain name idea (hopefully similar you blog name)
3. Plan of attack (for writing posts)

There are a lot of brainstorming topics you can use in this group or you can Ask A Blogger

Michael (knowledgelost) Choose a Platform

There are so many blogging platforms to choose from but I personally thing you should focus on the three major ones; Blogger, Wordpress.com or Self Hosted with Wordpress.org

I think they range in difficulty, but it depends what type of blog you want will depend on what you end up picking. But before you pick a platform, think about what you would like to achieve with you blog, if you want to look professional and maybe one day become a professional blogger you will pick a different platform to those who just want a fun and easy to use blog.

While there is a lot of technical know you may need for a self hosted blog, don't be put off, there are people that can help you and once its setup the way you like it there really is nothing to it.

But for argument sake let’s just try to give a quick overview of the big three blogging platforms

Blogger - Easy to use, simple to setup but might not look very professional

Wordpress.com - A little trickier to use and setup but will look more professional (and easy to export if you choose to go to self hosting.

Self Hosted - Harder to setup, will cost you money, but has the most freedom in customisation and more suited for a professional blogger.

There are more blogging platforms and the discussion can continue here or if you prefer you can always Ask A Blogger

Michael (knowledgelost) Build Content

Once you have picked your platform and created your blog. Now it is time to build content. I know you can spend hours and hours customizing your blog and you will probably change it ever week. But the most important thing is to get some content up.

Later we will talk about other important topics for being a book blogger but for now write some content.

There are a lot of brainstorming topics you can use in this group or you can Ask A Blogger
