I am the mother of two wonderful little boys who keep me busy. Most of my writing up to this point has been writing down our continuing saga on my personal family blog. Outside of the blog, I have mostly written poetry. I'm currently trying my hand at prose, so we'll see where that leads me. I am excited to be part of this group.

I love Jane Eyre for that very reason. Amazing book.

Oh Emily, me too. Every time I am asked about my favorite reads I say something different, though a few books tend to stay on the list.
In fact, my daughter and her friends asked me that very question in the car this morning.
Since I had just read an article about Roald Dahl, and it reminded me how much I love him, I said: The Twits and Esio Trot, JM Barrie's The Little White Bird, The Princess Bride, Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, and Tom Sawyer.
Ask me tomorrow for a new list. Hee!

Although I read, have read and will continue to read (according to a website that's "ego lego , ego have lego quod ego mos persevero ut lego" in Latin--I thought they wanted me to eat waffles and build with small connecting blocks) many books, I go to my shelves to tell me what my favorite is. The book in the worst shape is the winner. Since I have replaced The Phantom Tollbooth numerous times. I'm going with that as the all time favorite.

The laughter, by the way, is because of the above statement sounding like I'm confessing an addiction...hm, perhaps so.

You are most definitely confessing an addiction! This writing thing can suck the life out of you (and your family) if you let it. Luckily I'm too lazy to let it :)

I have one published book: Fright Flight and I'm working on the 2nd in the series. I document my trials in tribulations in being a first-time author on my blog: the Adventures in Writing & Publishing (www.dreamseekeradventures.com/blog). Please stop by and have a look or leave a comment.
My favorite books - oh boy, a loaded question. You can check out my reviews and ratings on Goodreads, but in short, some favorite authors are: JK Rowling, Roald Dahl, Jane Austen, Edith Wharton, Kate Chopin, Charles Dickens plus so many more.
I look forward to sharing and learning with the group.

Sure Emily!
I'm a 30-something homeschooling mama to my daughter, Hannah, age 11. (She prefers to be called Newt, but not for political reasons.)
I've been married to my best friend for 16 years. He's a mortgage broker by day, reserve police officer at night. We like to watch Castle and giggle about how he's my Beckett.
I love books. Confession: Sometimes I take a book off my shelf, just to smell it.
I'm currently working on edits to my first novel, Hook's Revenge, a middle-grade fantasy adventure about Captain Hook's thirteen year-old daughter.
Writing is fun. Editing is torture.
Looking forward to getting to know you all better!

Hi Tasha. You may be my new hero: husband, little girls, dogs, a cat, and you make time to write. Way to go!

Me too! Just bought it for my kindle.

Thanks for indulging me! I also love the smell of books. I always think of that when I watch the Emma Thompson version of Sense and Sensibility when Fanny says, "I never could stand the smell of books." Book fairs and book stores are dangerous places for my budget. I walk in and am instantly happy. :)
I would love to watch Castle, but I haven't seen it from the beginning. I would love it if Netflix put it on their instant play. Someday....
Your homeschooling adventures sound amazing! (I stalked you a little on your blog. Hope you don't mind!
I look forward to reading your novel! :)

Hi, Tasha! I look forward to getting to know you!

Absolutely!
Thanks for checking out my blog. That reminds me - I should go write a post or two (or three) for next week! :)

How exciting! I only recently discovered Goodreads and I thank Heidi for the introduction to this group. As a wife and mother of five my best writing time is usually in the evening and at times when the kids are at school. My husband is incredibly supportive.
My first fantasy novel is at the publishers and production is scheduled to start in June. The title is still subject to change. However, the synopsis can be found on my Facebook Author Page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Elaine-... or my new website: www.elainetcook.com
Favorite reads...that is tough. Some of my favorite books are the genealogy mysteries by G.G.Vandagriff. I enjoyed the Harry Potter series and the first book the Twilight series was probably my favorite of the four. I love stories with unpredictable plots and twists. Recently finished the Hunger Game series, but it took completing all three books before I decided I liked Katniss and the story. Jane Eyre nears the top of my list. Oh, this could go on and on...
Excited to get to know each of you and share the ups and downs we experience as Mothers who write. Best Regards.

Tasha, best of luck finding an agent this year! :)

If only my kindle smelled as good. :)

I love Little Women. Have you read any of the sequels? I read Jo's Boys a few months ago and loved it.

I did read that a long time ago, but I never liked them as much as the original. I get very angry about Jo's decisions in the end of Little Women... doesn't matter how many times I read it, I always want it to end differently! Makes no sense! LOL

Rachel, you are a better woman than me. I too am always shouting at Jane to stay, yet I can't bring myself to be okay with her moral courage. :D I can't love that book no matter how hard I've tried. Don't hate me. :)

I always wanted her to be with Laurie too! Of course, having never read the book and only watched the movie, a lot of that may have to do with the fact that Laurie is a lot better looking than the other guy ;)

I remember reading somewhere that you hated Jane Eyre and it was rather shocking. I am quite put out. (I kid)

Yes... Christian Bale is pretty good looking! You should give the book a try!

What was up with him just wanting to marry into the family - no matter who? That was a little weird.

It's ended a few friendships. LOL. j/k :D

Does a book on tape still count as "reading" it? I'm liking Laura's idea of listening to books while I run. Kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.
I've always thought Amy was a bit of an airhead for going with a guy who "should be part of the March family." It's great to love your in-laws and all, but marrying someone so you can hang out with them? That's just going too far.

Now the real question is if you like Wuthering Heights?

My name is Dina, and thank you so much for including me in this wonderful group. All time favorite book is Pride & Prejudice, and I am currently on book three in the 50 Shades series. If you're looking to kill time, you can check out my reviews of books 1&2 here on Goodreads. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and their books a little better!

I'm almost afraid to answer. Did I like Wuthering Heights. Not really. The truth of the matter is that I read to escape. I like happy endings. I can take a bittersweet ending if I understand it (For instance, the movie "Becoming Jane." I don't mind that she doesn't end up with Tom Lefroy, although I really wish she could have...although we probably wouldn't have any of her great novels if she'd had gotten married because she would've been too busy with babies...I digress.) But most of the Bronte sisters just wrote dismal, overly-dramatic stuff. Not that I feel like I have the right to criticize their work considering they wrote classics. I'll agree to that. It's just not for me. Is that okay? Still friends? (I do adore everything Jane Austen if that makes up for anything.)

Okay, we can still be friends. I HATED Wuthering Heights. Really. I just don't get it. What's the point of the whole story? I hated almost every single character (except perhaps Edgar Linton who ends up being a total whimp, but at least he's not cruel). If you had disliked Jane Eyre but loved Wuthering Heights we may have had to go our separate ways ;)
I loved the movie Becoming Jane. It was so, so sad and I don't know why I even wanted her to be with Tom - considering he was a bit lacking in morals - but man, did I ever.
As for the rest of the Bronte lit, I can't comment much. I've only read Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, and The Tennant of Wildfell Hall (one of Anne's works). I see your point about the melodrama, but I sort of thrive on that kind of story. Mine will (hopefully) have a lot of that kind of churning angst.
But at least we've still got the Austen. :)

I agree completely about NO LIKABLE CHARACTERS. Cathy reminded me a lot of Bella (I should probably say Bella reminded me of Cathy, right?) SELFISHNESS. I won't even go off on my rant there. LOL.

Welcome Dina! Thanks for joining :)

I usually read the classic stuff because I'm a teacher - of creative writing - so a lot poetry, and lately, short stories (reading Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" again this weekend). But I also love our Pacific NW writers and read a lot them, too. I read all kinds of mom stuff in between the fiction; I most recently read (or finished, I should say, because I usually have 3 or 4 books going at once, which includes my schoolwork) - "Cinderella Ate my Daughter" by Peggy Orenstein and I recommend it highly for parents of both boys and girls. You can see my review on it soon.
I did recently epublish my novel, Moorings. The link is: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view.... I could use some Goodreads reviews, of course. And, for moms interested in birth stories (aren't we all?), I used to write a mom blog, at http://54hourmama.blogspot.com.
Also, since I'm new, I need friends on Goodreads to see what everyone's reading. Thanks for starting this group and letting me join!
