Ellie So this book seems a lot like the hunger games. Which is absolutly fine! I am a HUGE GIGANTIC sucker for dystopian novels of any kind. But how good is it? No spoilers please! Thanks
-Ellie-

Anna Really good! Definitely worth reading, especially if you like the hunger games. I bought the kindle edition.... and then bought the actual book too I liked it so much :)

Ellie Thankyou! I really needed an opinion from someone who actually read it! :)

Faith SO GOOD! The only thing I think it has in common with the Hunger Games is the dystopian bad government. Definitely read it. :)

Kate Kid I loved it! I'm planning on reading it when I get done with a series I'm on and probably again when the second book comes out. This book is also haunting, I'll be sitting around (sometimes at school) and a part will just hit me all of a sudden.

Valerie Good can't describe legend. Legendary, amazing, beast, mindblowing, breathtaking.... DAY!

Kerry Moore It's good, but it seems to be more of a cop chase book than a dystopian. I enjoyed it but not as much as others like The Hunger Games and Divergent.

very, very good. I loved it

Chris Lavy This book was amazing can't wait till the next one

Citra It's a good book, however, if you expect strong characters, you may find flaws in it.

Webiny Woah, woah, people! I think comparing Legend to the Hunger Games is quite a stretch! I should mention before I start: I'm not a hater; I really wanted to like this book. And also I have read parts of Marie Lu's (author) blog, and I know the backstory of the teenaged Lu who started writing this, so I'm kinda sympathetic. Ok.

Here's my two cents:
I heard the hype, read the book, and was pretty disappointed. First, the character never really got likable, believable, sensible. For example, some of the things the female MC does and achieves are like, completely unfathomable, no matter how smart she is. I was all psyched for a tough bad-boy MC; only he doesn't actually live up to the briefly mentioned "dangerous criminal" rep...at all.

My two biggest gripes?

1. Some seriously clumsy romance; it was so sudden, shallow, undeveloped, and chemistry-lacking that I actually think the story would have benefited if it was removed entirely. (On a more sympathetic note, I read in the after-word that June's character was originally a guy, so that may explain the poor romance). All in all, this book was mostly emotionally devoid. Things like death, love, fear, panic etc. were all stoically handled with not nearly enough intensity.

2. The rushed ending. Right up to the end action sequence, Legend did have enough good points still going for it to redeem it from being a total fail. But that ending? So much potential for drama and suspense was there and I feel like the author didn't make it work. Furthermore, what action there was wasn't compelling; I didn't feel the least bit stressed or anything during the most perilous moments.

And as for the actual final pages, I was flabbergast at the dry conclusion. I don't know if Legend is going to be part of a series, but whether there's more or not, that's no way to end a book folks. To me, it felt like about three fourths through the author just got tired and gave up.

But, to close on a brighter note, there were some good things about Legend. It contained the best subtle world building I've seen in a dysto yet. (Not such a hot world, but little hints here and there made the big picture nicely). Nice descriptions of formal clothing. The metaphor about shattering the glass and June turning her back on her upscale world was nice. I liked Day's style of crime; he was a smooth, untraceable criminal. There were some well thought out scenes emotionally speaking. Uhm, the cover was nice, unique.

All in all, not sure hwy there's so much hype about this.

Shelby I just finished it yesterday. It was amazing! You can find my review of it here, if you like: http://gobsandgobsofbooks.blogspot.co...

Steph I thought it was good not great but good

Catherine I loved this book, I read it in one night.... and then read it again.

shanghao It was ok, but superficial and is in no way near hunger games, imo. More like a video game/manga than a novel. But the action sequences are described well, and pacing is good.

Ivy I loved Legend. I also love the hunger games but this book isn't actually that similar to the hunger games, in my opinion.

Loved it! Its a quick read, give it a chance.

Sophia I thought the beginning was slow but I REALLY liked the ending. I loved the characters ( especially Day).
I would read this book if you liked the Hunger Games, but I wouldn't compare them. In my opinion, Legend isn't as good, but they are different. Definitely worth reading.
