message 51: by Jayme (new)

Jayme | 19 comments Starting Jan. 1, 2008, I set a goal of 75 books. This morning ( Apr. 30) I finished book 43. So I have 32 books to go.

message 52: by *Nan* (new)

*Nan* (nan4471) My Goal for this year was 175 books and so far I have read 92 books so I am ahead of schedule. If I continue at this rate then I will finish about 225 for the year.

message 53: by Meredith (new)

Meredith (mer1721) I read 20 so far this year. I would like to read more than I did last year which is about 70 but it doesn't look like that will happen.

message 54: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Reading through everyone's goals I feel like an underachiever, but I am trying for 25 this year. I'm actually hoping to surpass that, we'll see. I'm about to finish book 9 so still got a ways to go. Hopefully I will take some time off from work this summer and get to add a few books that way!

message 55: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (calvamom) | 72 comments My goal is 104 books for 2008. I have read 38. Summer is coming. I'm a teacher so I have more time to read then. I think I can make it.

message 56: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyshackleford) Well, my goal is to round out my reading habits. I'm constantly reading, but I usually read a lot of historical fiction, graphic novels, and overall, books that are a quick read and entertaining. This modis operandi appeals to my short attention span, but those books are usually completely unrewarding, and teach me nothing. I’m not saying I’m going to stop reading them; I would just like to read fewer, and cram something useful into my brain. So here’s what I am going to do.
- I’m going to read one How-to book. How-to what, I don’t know – just something useful.
- One book involving science, maybe A Brief History of the Universe. In all likelihood, something much more dumbed-down.
- One book in Spanish. I speak Spanish, but rarely read Spanish literature. If you have any suggestions let me know. As a reference, I hate stuff by Borges, but I actually enjoyed El Cantar Del Mio Cid
- I would like to start reading books about the American presidents. I would like to read biographies on the first two American presidents this year.
- One classic.
- One religious book.
If you have any suggestions that meet this criteria – I would appreciate it. I'm going to start with the classic - The Animal Farm. I "read" it with my class in school once, but I have no recollection whatsoever of cracking the book open.

message 57: by Laura (new)

Laura (lwspotts) I just finished books 11 today, and will finish #12 tomorrow. Am in progress on #13 & 14, with a goal of 52 for the year. I'm way behind!!

message 58: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) Let's see for my Birthday to Birthday challenge I hadn't really set a goal in mind at first but somewhere along the line I settled on 100 books and 40,000 pages...my current count is 88 books and 34,214 pages. I'm on page 110 of book 89 as well. This challenge will end at the end of the day on August 11th of this year. So I think I'm probably going to reach those goals.

On the author a-z challenge I only need letters O, Q, T, U, V, X, Y, and Z. Some I have books for other's I'll have to find...not as confident I'll get this before my birthday (keeping the same time goals).

A - Z Title Challenge...I still need Q and Z...I've got a Q on my to read list I still need a Z.

message 59: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyshackleford) Thanks for the response, Sarah. I've read most of those suggestions, but The Inferno would be interesting. That's another of those that I "read" in high school for some assignment. Translation: I skimmed it really quick before the quiz, and thus, I have no recollection of the contents.

message 60: by Alison (new)

Alison | 5 comments Great idea Audrey!
I'm on number 43 of 100. Timeframe is 01/01/08-12/31/08.

message 61: by Greyweather (last edited Jun 07, 2008 05:39PM) (new)

Greyweather | 43 comments Starting from June 5th, 08 my goal is to have 15 books read by August 2nd, 08. In other words, about 2 books a week for 8 weeks.

Done with book one, Flashman by George MacDonald Fraser.

message 62: by Greyweather (new)

Greyweather | 43 comments Done with books two and three, The Traitor by Michael Cisco and The Book of Skulls by Robert Silverberg.

message 63: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberpic) I have 37.5% of my challenge for this year completed (9 of 24 books). I'm a little behind as the year is just over halfway through. I'm hoping to catch up in August.

message 64: by Sara (new)

Sara (cartoondoggy) | 3 comments Here's where I am!

Read: 11/ Goal: 24 by 1/1/09

Started January 1, 2008.

I'm about where I should be... almost done with June's book.

message 65: by Angela (new)

Angela Goal is 120 by the end of the year. I have read 73 so far and started Jan 08.

TheReadingKnitter/ Kasey (thereadingknitter) I'm new here. I started counting in July and I'm on #20 right now. I want to get to 50 by December. Then I'll start the new year with a new goal. :) Thanks for letting me be apart of the group.

message 67: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (stephmcreynolds) | 3 comments I started in January and didn't read at all for a few months-- life sort of took over. I've started up again and have finished reading 7 books. My goal is 50 by the end of December.

message 68: by Greyweather (new)

Greyweather | 43 comments I've currently read 8 out of my 15 book goal, which puts me a full week behind.

message 69: by Alison (new)

Alison | 5 comments Up to #58 for my 100 jan 1 to jan 1.

message 70: by Elke (last edited Feb 25, 2009 02:14AM) (new)

Elke (misspider) Hi, just stumbled over this group, good idea! Though I never can tell in advance what I will be reading, it's a mixture of newly published books (series and favorite authors where I read everything new coming out, as well as spontaneous purchases of interesting stories) and books waiting on my shelf.

As a goal I want to reduce the stack of un-read books I already have on my shelf, which is about 400 titles at the moment. To achieve this I will also try to reduce my shopping, so as not to have more books coming in than I can manage to read...

My decision which book to read next is purely spontaneous, so I can't compile a list of titles to post here. But I can name a few titles which I will read immediately after publication this year:

1. Breaking Dawn (Twilight book 4)
2. Descent into chaos (Vampire Apocalypse book 2)
3. Just after Sunset, the new Stephen King book

message 71: by *Nan* (new)

*Nan* (nan4471) I Have read (and listened to) 141 books so far this year. I have finished the 50 book challenge, under Book challenge I set a goal of 175 books and my current challenge is to not buy any more books and get rid of as many of the books I already own. I do allow myself to get books from the library since I am not adding anymore books to my inventory of owned books. So far I have read 34 books in this challenge.

message 72: by CrisTina (new)

CrisTina | 57 comments My goal was 3-4 books a month and if it was 3 I have passed that. 4 books X 12 months=48 and I just finished #45. So now I am just going to see how many I actually can get read by the end of the year, kind of hoping for 100...we'll see.

message 73: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) Whoo hoo! I'm finally at the halfway mark!!

Just finished book 30, making it 50% down, 50% to go...

message 74: by Greyweather (new)

Greyweather | 43 comments Finished my goal to have 15 books read between June 5th and August 2nd, 08.

message 75: by Angela (new)

Angela 30 more books to go and 5 months left to do it!

message 76: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I'm a little behind in my year challenge of 52 books. I have 23 books to go and 5 months to do it. Not horribly behind.....but I'll definitely have to pick up the pace a little bit.

message 77: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) Just finished my Birthday to Birthday challenge... 125 Books for a total of 46,124 pages!!!! Lets see if I can top that next year.

message 78: by Alison (new)

Alison | 5 comments Goal: 100 Jan 1 2008 to Dec 31 2008. Up to #65 I believe.

message 79: by DelGal (new)

DelGal | 92 comments Mod
Moving right along here...

13 books out of 50 by the end of 2008

message 80: by Angela (new)

Angela 21 books left and 4 more months to do it. I am ahead of schedule!

message 81: by Lynlee4 (new)

Lynlee4 | 21 comments My goal was 52 books this year and I'm reading #34. I think I'll make my goal.

I'm also doing the A-Z author challenge and have read 22. Still need to do: R, U, V and Y.

message 82: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Tuell (booksloveme) my goal began on jan first and end dec 31. i joined the title challenge which seems to be going ok. the author challenge which is slow, but getting there. my personal challenge was to read 104 books this year, that 2 a week. i just finished book 42! i'm really behind schedule. i need to get reading.

message 83: by Laura (new)

Laura (lwspotts) I set my personal goal for the year at 52 books. So far have completed 27, and am currently reading (soon to complete) 3 more. I'm a little behind where I would like to have been by now, but I still think I can meet (and maybe pass) 52 books by December 31.

message 84: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) 19 more to reach my goal. I think I can. I think I can. :-)

message 85: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (calvamom) | 72 comments At 80 out of 104 for 2008, I'm right on track for 2 books per week. Hurray!

message 86: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melitious) | 254 comments I didn't set myself a goal of a certain number of books to read by the end of the year, but a goal for the month. Since having my son, I was aiming for two books a month -- this has turned out to be much easier than I thought. Since beginning at the very end of August, I've read 9 books.

message 87: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiethewriter) | 4 comments I'm just getting into the groups thing on goodreads, but I've been doing a book challenge for the last two years, thanks to the LiveJournal community "50bookchallenge." Their goal is 50 books in a year, but plenty of us do different numbers.

My original goal was to beat last year's 49, and read 50 books. Since January, though, I've come to discover that that goal was going to be easily surpassed. So I've reset my goal, and it's now 75. I'm currently at 51, and am in the middle of two books.

message 88: by Liana (new)

Liana | 40 comments Just like Kaite, the lovely lady above, I did the 50 Book Challenge last year. Unfortunately I got got up to book 29. This year my goal is 35. I'm happy to report that I'm currently on my 29th book, and it looks to me that I'll surpass my goal this year.

message 89: by Liz (new)

Liz (busy91) I'm at 35 out of 50, I think I'll make it. Started in January. I'm usually further along, but this has been a rough year.

message 90: by Charity (new)

Charity (charityross) 8 to go!! :-)

message 91: by DelGal (new)

DelGal | 92 comments Mod
I'm attempting to continue my 50 books by Dec 31st, but I think I'm going to extend it to Jan. since I'm not reading as much in Nov. because I'm participating in the Nanowrimo.org write a book in a month competition. I've read 32 so far but I've seriously slowed down. Ah well, no biggie.

message 92: by Angie (new)

Angie (just-me) | 27 comments I just started. I've crossed 3 books off my list.

message 93: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I'm doing 45 books in eleven weeks to round out the year so I can start fresh in 2009.

Last night I hit 22 books (22 books in 33 days = 49%) pretty much exactly where I need to meet my goal.

message 94: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) I started the beginning of this month (Nov.) and I am up to 4 and my goal is 65.

message 95: by Amber (new)

Amber (poetryeclipse) | 9 comments My goal is to read 50 books by November 17th 2009 and I have completed 3 and a half already.

message 96: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) When would this of started. Cos I can add how many I have read since I have been writing them down in a book of what I have read each month. Which I had no goal at the time. But I can say I wanna read all my TBR pile which is 680 books lol.

September 2006 - Present: I have read 176 books. I am on 177th book now. Which is Where There's Smoke - Simon Beckett.

Now if someone can answer what I am meant to be posting I can do that.

Thanks xx

message 97: by Donna (new)

Donna (dfiggz) How many do you get done each month on average Fiona?

I thought that 65 would be easy but I never thought that I would have to read 1.5 books a week!! It may sounds fairly easy but as I say I am a grad student who works full time, has a hubby, a 7 month old and..... There is more but it's a hush hush right now

message 98: by Donna (new)
