Sarah Obsesses over Books & Cookies I am hooked on books on children-young and coming of age etc. especially the ones that are less than ideal upbringing. For example, Miriam Towes' A Complicated Kindness, Wally Lamb's She's come Undone and the latest I've read, Lullabies for little criminals. Can anyone recommend more books about childhood narrators or about children who are interesting characters.

Sarah Obsesses over Books & Cookies Thank you Thank you Thank you. I read The Heart is a lonely Hunter I agree with that. And got half way through the sweetness at the bottom of the pie but something distracted me and never picked it up. Thanks Zora :)

Zora yw! I thought of two more I recently liked

Big Girl Small: A Novel

and

The Lock Artist

Sarah Obsesses over Books & Cookies Cool, Zora. Thank you I'm checking these out right now :)

Kathryn oooh...The Outsiders was good. I actually read the whole thing when I was in HS

Sarah Obsesses over Books & Cookies hmmm, the outsiders. was it really good? i never saw the movie. of course the movie wouldn't mean much, it's never as good as the book.

Katherine Gingerbread. It's a YA novel, but it's seriously one of my favorite books. I want to be as cool as Cyd Charisse when I grow up.

Sarah Obsesses over Books & Cookies hhmmmm. something to check out

Alexes Miss Peregrin's School for Peculiar Children, which I'm reading now and enjoying. There's the all-time classics: "The Catcher in the Rye" and "Huckleberry Finn."

I completely agree! The movie almost ruined the book for me.

Joclyn "To Kill a Mockingbird"

Lorrie You might like "The Dry Grass of August".

Bevin Kutluoglu Normal Girl: A Novel: beaucoup de l'excès (sort of like what I understand Gossip Girl is like?)

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn: early part of the century -- totally different way of life but still very relatable.

Special Topics in Calamity Physics: little mystery twist, lots of lit references. Probably one of my top 5 fav books.

Lisa The Liar's Club by Mary Karr and Cat's Eye by Margaret Atwood are both really good. I read both of them more than once.

Angie -The Perks of Being a Wallflower

-Brave New Girl

-Speak

Jennie A tree grows in brooklyn <-- very good

Angela's ashes
memoirs of a geisha
snow flower and the secret fan
this much is true by wally lamb

Amanda Rhodes I would definitely recommend A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. Its one of my most favorite reads, next to She's Come Undone. ;-)
