Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments Hello,

I am a new author to the site and part of the advice I was given was to start a Q & A session. I did one called 'favourite book of all time' and when I reviewed it, it said you have no friends, and why? (it actually said that)

I have created an author profile, and am looking for friends to add to help get me started on the site, and if anybody has any further tips on building my group of readers, or improving my profile, or anything really, they would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy Culyer

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I just sent you a friend request. You can send requests as well. Really the best thing is to hang around and chat as much as possible and get to know people.

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments Hello Gingerlily,

Thanks for adding me as a friend.

I've been going around the site looking for tips, etc..and am getting that feeling you're right in what you say. I am finding it's quite easy to stay on here for long periods! Maybe there should be a group for GR rehab? :)

Thanks, Andy

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments You have a point there. i spend vast amounts of time here... Is there life outside GR?

message 5: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Not as we know it GL!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hiya Andrew. I'm glad you're enjoying the group and already finding it addictive.

We do ask that our authors have only one author thread, though.

You have complete carte blanche in your thread, of course.

I'll have to delete one of them, I'm afraid, or it wouldn't fair to the others.

Which would you like to keep?

message 7: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments Hello Patti, I'd like to keep this one if that's ok.

Sorry for breaking a site rule...I'm new!

Teehee! It's to the dungeon for you boy :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Yes, we have a very well equipped dungeon which is popular with quite a few of our members...

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments I'm very tall as well...a small room would be real torture...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Lol!

It's no worry at all Andrew. Easily sorted.

Just be sure to pop your lovely book links in here, okay?

message 12: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Ahaha! I actually chuckled out loud at Goodreads asking why you have no friends. Thanks for that Andy :o) Thankfully no one was here to hear me except the guy that has some kind of issue with me but I couldn't care less what he thinks cause he ignores me anyway! Oops I digress...

Hmmm..... lunchtime

message 13: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments ah ok, which do you think is best? I am an author on GR and when I've posted before I've just added the book from the top line above the comment box. Is it best to actually put a link in do you think? It makes it look a bit obvious to me, and adding the book looks more subtle. Jed sent me two links, one for uk and one for .com.

I'm a bit soft when it comes to self-promotion on a site. It's like...I don't want bother people.

message 14: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Andrew, this is your thread. You can do what you like here. And we love Authors promoting and will even help by sharing on our various Facebook, Twitter etc pages :-)

message 15: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments But only if we like you. I shall ponder this over lunch and maybe tell you the outcome but then again maybe not

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Well I'm kind of committed now, having sent a friend request already...

Same, I just accepted one :-)

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments ha ha I'm very likeable and every loves my work...no, no, sorry I have to stop...it just doesn't feel natural to me. Everybody does call me the Gentle Giant, though...maybe that should be my user name? I am a Geordie as well...3G's? or 3 ...jees!

Here's the link to my book on Amazon:

message 19: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments i've just had to edit my profile for emails as well, after looking at my yahoo account and seeing a full page of GR mails...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yeah, the default notifications are horrendous, aren't they?

We mods have been complaining about that to Goodreads forever. It should be set up to opt in, not out.

Anyway...

If you need any help at all, please just shout out.

And as Jud said, this is your home in the group. Do as you like here.

I suggest some snazzy curtains right away. ;)

message 21: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments ha ha thanks patty. Curtains not really my area of expertise, though :)

message 22: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments My advice to you Andrew, don't let Patti near them if you do get some!!!!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hehe.

Flame retardant would probably be best...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Patti and curtains are an explosive combination!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hold on there!

I've not blown any author thread curtains up!

Yet.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments ok, incendiary

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments That's better.

message 28: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments sorry, you've lost me there...do i want to know, or not?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Patti had a habit of coming into an author thread and causing havoc, usually involving setting the curtains on fire. She claims it accidental....

message 30: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments ha ha ok, I'll give the curtains a miss then.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments It is! Always!

I just think candles add a certain ambiance, is all.

GL is the one who brings the chocolate fountains.

And the whips.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments *whispers*

Do you think he's sussed out that we're all bonkers yet?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Well if he hasn't he's a tad slow on the uptake...

message 34: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments ha ha, yes I have, and I am as well...we're all writers and readers, right? It's assumed... :)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments So have you been fitted for your nice white strappy jacket yet?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh yeah. Q&A

You want shiny or matte buckles on that?

message 37: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm really sleepy now after lunch

message 38: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments don't care about the buckles, just make sure it's extra, extra, extra, extra large.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments WAKE UP JUD!!!!

We got any big ones in the closet, GL?

message 40: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments No! I want to sleep

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I think we have one be used for the panto. Remember it was Jack and the Beanstalk...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Did we ever get the golden goose crap washed out of it?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments That was your job, wasn't it. I was having washing machine problems...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh. Oops.

Never mind. It's gone all crusty. We can just give it a good shake.

message 45: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Chuck a couple of marbles in to break it all up

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Like any of us have marbles, Jud.

Honestly.

message 47: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Lol! You guys make me chuckle!!! Hope you didn't want this thread kept on topic Andrew? :-)

message 48: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments no I didn't put that on the top of the thread, but is ok, am just watching...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Andrew, have you any spare brain cells? We seem to have lost the group one...

message 50: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Culyer (andrew_culyer) | 45 comments no sorry, if I gave you it I'd have none left.
