I try to comfort her, but she seems to be far away, locked in her own grief. I raise her to her feet and carry her—all the way up the long, circular staircase—into my chamber. Kissing her I taste the salt of her tears. I smell the sweet fragrance of her milk.
Then I make love to her--
I raise her to her feet and carry her—all the way up the staircase—into my chamber

“Go, why don’t you go back home,” he mutters, dismissing me with a casual wave of the hand.
“Please,” I say. “Let me serve you. You’ll find my music soothing, I trust.”
“Trust?” he says, locking eyes with me.
“Just so, your majesty. Trust!”
“There is no such thing, where I’m sitting.”

I close my eyes and hold myself, wrapping my arms real soft—around me around him—and I rock ever so gently, back and forth, back and forth, with every note of this silvery marvel. You can barely hear me—but here I am, singing along. I’m whispering words into myself, into him--

I have experienced the rare opportunity to get to really know a Bible character, warts and all. It would seem that King David had his fair share of them if one were to embrace this author's microscopic view of a powerful man's life in ancient times. In the author's own words..."It's amazing to be in the skin of the character from childhood to old age." My sentiments exactly...a great read indeed! I am an author myself and with each novel I read by Ms. Poznansky, she continues to inspire me to be a better one.
The Prologue sets the pace for the elderly and frail King David. Strongly advised by Bathsheba to choose an heir to the throne before the possibility of unnecessary rivalry results between his eldest living son Adoniah by Haggith, and his youngest son Solomon by Bathsheba, is a decision King David is slow to make. After all...he is still King as he proclaims to Bathsheba when she confronts him yet again.
The poignant presentation in the chronicles of King David as depicted by Author Uvi Poznansky and the endless possibilities of how he conducts the last years of his life, stand out in a very profound way. This talented author has both the skill and the courage to dig deeper into King David's psyche and portray his supposed indecisive character in a mesmerizing way. In doing so, Ms. Poznansky adeptly manages to give him a present day voice combined with a very human, and oftentimes, fragile persona. He seems to be a man with many weaknesses and numerous lustful cravings. This is clearly demonstrated by his several wives and his need for young concubines to frequent his bed and satisfy his sexual cravings. This, now much older King, does not compare to the young, down-to-earth, brave commoner that slayed Goliath. Uncomfortable with the knowledge that his eldest son Amnon follows in his path when it comes to his lustful nature, King David closes his mind to the rumors he hears. Now, emotionally torn by the rape of his daughter... virginal fourteen year old Tamar, defiled by half-brother Amnon, King David lacks the strength and wisdom to effectively deal with this heinous crime. Absalom, Tamar's full brother and Amnon's half-brother, is at his wits end and loses all respect for his father. After much deliberation, frustrating indecision and endless waiting, Absalom decides to take matters into his own hands...
"The Edge of Revolt" is the third and final installment in the Chronicle of David Series. As previously stated, I have read and reviewed the other two but Book 3 is my favorite thus far. It is penned by the same gifted author....well-written in Author Uvi Poznansky's unique and captivating style. However, it offers closure to the life and eventual death of King David. He has led a ponderous life, a gifted psalmist...filling up scroll after scroll, yet persecuted by the realization of his own humanity and need for redemption. Haunted by his love for Bathsheba, the taking of her when she was married to Uriah, and his subsequent act of perpetuating Uriah's murder on the battlefield clearly demonstrates one of the many reasons for the spiritual and emotional turmoil in King David's life. Will he ever find the peace of mind he so deeply desires before his death...?

And so I find myself standing here, on the threshold of where I grew up, feeling utterly awkward. I knock, and a stranger opens the door. The first thing that comes to mind: what is she doing here? The second thing: she is young, much too young for him. The third: her hair. Red.

Here is a lovely new audible review, written by Aaron Paul Lazar. Aaron is a mystery writer author, and many of his books have audiobook editions. I am thrilled by what he says about the narration of A Peek at Bathsheba:
Overall ★★★★★
Performance ★★★★★
Story ★★★★★
"A Literary Gem!"
A Peek at Bathsheba: The David Chronicles, Book 2, is a literary gem. Ms. Poznansky has paired her luscious telling of the life of David with a narrator most worthy. Mr. Justin Harmer's voice is liquid gold, with intonations so deft and moving that it's hard to imagine anyone else telling this story.
The story of David continues from Book 1, Rise to Power, through the third of the series, Edge of Revolt, just released. I plan to listen to the last book and hope Mr. Harmer will narrate this one as well.
David, the powerful narcissist who can wipe out entire villages with not a shred of guilt, yet who adores his (many) wives and children with most surprising tenderness, grows from youth to old man within the series. We experience frequent flashbacks or references to his youth in this story as well, which ties his life together very nicely.
I love Ms. Poznansky's evocative writing, and here is just one of many poetic scenes that moved me, describing David watching Bathsheba when she first came to his chambers:
"I sit at the edge of the bed, utterly fascinated by her beauty. Her
lashes are long, they flutter over her cheeks, and her hair waves
around her face with the rhythm of her steps. It glows like copper
under the flaming sconces, but when she crosses in front of the
window it turns blue against the moonshine."
You can call me a romantic, but this scene came alive for me with these and all of the well-chosen words in this novel.
Thank you, Ms. Poznansky, for allowing us to continue to believe that America still has great writers who carefully construct each sentence, and who can tell a great story at the same time.
- Highly recommended

"Poetic and Seductive"
Today I discovered a beautiful review titled "Poetic and Seductive." It was written by the poet, author and book reviewer, Clarissa Simmens. This is what wrote for the audiobook edition of my novel, Apart From Love:
Overall ★★★★★
Performance ★★★★★
Story ★★★★★
What did you love best about Apart from Love?
The different levels in the story: mythological, philosophical, and romantic.
What other book might you compare Apart from Love to and why?
The three aunts—the Fates—snipping and knitting, moving amongst the lives of the main characters. Also, there is the basic story of the love triangle of Ben, his father Lenny, and Anita (the young wife who is replacing Ben’s mother) that is reminiscent of Oedipus Rex: kill the father and marry the stepmother. Because of these parallels, I see this as a potential Greek tragedy that may have been written in ancient times.
Have you listened to any of David Kudler and Heather Jane Hogan ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, but I enjoyed their performances and would certainly look for additional audibles featuring them.
If you could take any character from Apart from Love out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Anita. Despite being uneducated, poor and seemingly a home wrecker, she shows--surprisingly--much wisdom. She is fiercely protective of her unborn child and the reader/listener will have no doubt that Anita will be a superior mother.
Any additional comments?
The best part of a Poznansky book? The poetic prose, her seductive words, that make each book well worth listening to or reading.

I am thrilled to find this review, written by the high-ranking Amazon reviewer and author of historical fiction books, Christoph Fischer. This is what he says about my trilogy, The David Chronicles:
★★★★★ Great series December 20, 2014
By ChristophFischerBooks TOP 500 REVIEWER
"Rise to Power (The David Chronicles)" by Uvi Poznansky is another eye opening book, based on a biblical theme but written with a modern mind and perspective. Without corrupting the original historic-biblical story Poznansky takes us into the world and minds of well known biblical figures, such as the first King of Israel, his rivals and his lovers.
A man of flesh and blood, with sexual urges, pride and huge powers of reflection and analysis David is a superb character, real, with bite and of the human race - quite different from the biblical myth that has been created around him.
We see him as he slowly rises to power, from a small soldier to military leader, his military campaigns, his ambitions and the rivalry over the throne; we see the husband to Michal - his first wife and the sometimes strange 'renaissance' man. The novel is historical fiction, biblical fiction and simply excellent fiction.
“A Peek at Bathsheba” by Uvi Poznansky is yet another one of her great Bible-inspired books. Nobody understands better to utilise existing stories that many of us are familiar with already – at least to some extent – and give them a new lease of life, a new angle and makes us see different sides to those historical, religious and mythical characters. Who was David really? A hero or a product of his circumstances, of coincidence and skilled manipulation?
“The Edge of Revolt (The David Chronicles Book 3)” by Author Uvi Poznansky is another amazing and spell binding book about the biblical King David. We meet him at a progressed age where his family life is turned upside down by the sexual escapes of his children, mainly that of his son Amnon.
To see his own reflection in the son who inherited the lust from David himself was one of the most extraordinary moments in reading this novel for me.
Such are the thoughtful illustrations of a well-known biblical character, modernised by language and brought to contemporary relevance. Humanised to flesh and blood we get to experience what often had the mere relevance as a myth, fable or saga. This is a powerful portrayal of the man behind the myth. Not always as we would like to see it, but brought to life with poignancy and depth.
The writing is sharp and beautiful, the characters hard to forget and the story well developed.
A psychological profile, a story of king, his family and ancient Israel, this has something for historians and fans of modern literature. Artful, courageous and powerful.

I am so thrilled to discover such an eloquent review, written by a Top 500 Amazon Reviewer! Here is what Dii wrote, on her great review blog and on Amazon, for of my novel, The Edge of Revolt:
★★★★★ The Imperfect Life of an Imperfect Ruler-Magnetic Reading, January 1, 2015
By Dii (Florida) (TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: The Edge of Revolt (The David Chronicles Book 3)
The voice of King David comes alive as he tells of his life as he ages and faces some of the greatest heartaches and turmoil to date. A man once driven by his own needs and desires, a masterful poet, a man possessed by the love of his life, Bathsheba, David is aging and decisions once so readily handed down have hit sickeningly close to his home and heart. Murder and rape within his family have gone unpunished. Why has he been paralyzed into inactivity? He knows his time as ruler will come to a close soon and a successor must be named. Is his eldest, the assumed heir to the throne worthy or will Absalom’s lust for power and control attempt to steal what was his already?
Treachery is afoot and David is losing respect, allies and quite possibly his throne. Emotionally, he is torn, so he is ill-prepared to avoid being overthrown by his own son. Does Absalom have the power to maintain his hold on David’s kingdom? If David should retake his throne, who of his remaining sons can be trusted to continue the legacy he has created?
The Edge of Revolt by the gifted Uvi Poznansky is a beautiful journey back to the time of David, not as a Biblical ruler, but as a flawed man, a ruler who lost touch with his people, his family and with the man he once was. The poet still lives within, but even his pretty words cannot forestall the events to come. Great pain and suffering, death and bloodshed will now be on his hands. Ms. Poznansky gives voice to her characters, with rich emotions while etching their actions into our minds. Each scene is painted into existence by her words with a clarity that causes reality to fade as the centuries are swept away between the now and the “then.” This is a tale of the imperfect life of an imperfect ruler who makes mistakes, matures and seeks his own forgiveness for the chaos he has fathered throughout his reign.
Told as only Uvi Poznansky can, this trilogy is powerful, thought-provoking and at times, painfully difficult to read as a biblical figure becomes human before our eyes.

For the third day in a row, one bird after another flew into my father’s tent and tore into the canvas. On the first day, the maidservants mended the tear. On the second day they let it be, saying that in their opinion, the increased air circulation would do him some good, perhaps even revive him. And on the third day, at the sight of one open tear after another, a whisper spread around the camp, saying that this could be nothing else but an omen--

And the minute I ask it, the answer becomes clear, dreadfully clear to me. My heart starts hammering, hammering heavily inside my chest—

★★★★★ Trip Beyond Time into the Heart & Mind of Uvi's David, January 5, 2015

Who would dare to take on a legendary Biblical figure and make him into a flawed mere mortal, enamored by power, beauty and a lust for life’s treasures and pleasures of the flesh? The answer is Uvi Poznansky in a trilogy starting with Rise to Power, a journey through the life, times, and mind of David, slayer of Goliath, King, poet and lover. Ms. Poznansky humanizes David by entering her David’s head, finding how his thought processes work and laying the foundation for a stunning read where one sees, feels and breathes the ancient air while never noticing the dialogue’s modern feel. We aren’t asked to translate meanings, Ms. Poznansky wants us to relate to and understand the man who mesmerized his world with his actions, good or bad. Sit back and get lost in a history that comes alive with her words.
David reflects on his life as he becomes frail, going back to his youth, the time when he thought he could never die because life still held so many challenges for him to conquer. He relives his quest for power, his plans, his scheming and his artistic side. With a velvet tongue he causes listeners to swoon, with his thirst for sexual conquest, he takes what he wants, when he wants it and makes no apologies. The world is his; he can read people, decipher their intent and knows that only a fool would allow historians to paint a true picture of him. That said, what has Uvi Poznansky done? Has she placed a fictional blot on a man who represented victory and triumph in some many ways or has she put him in perspective?
David was a man, no more, no less, but Ms. Poznansky gave him renewed flesh and bones, along with each character that crossed David’s path or impacted his life. David comes to life under her carefully guided hand without any religious leaning, just a wonderfully written tale of what David may have been, may have felt and may have done. The blending of fact and fiction is flawless, unlike our David. Again, Ms. Poznansky adds her distinctive signature to historical fiction as she dazzles the minds and imaginations of her readers.

So she closed her eyes, and brought back the last touch of his hand. It was as firm as ever. His fingers—she could almost feel them around her, all the way to the small of her back—his fingers gave her a sweet, strange feeling, which she had been missing for so long: the feeling of being home.

Oh what a great review of my novel The Edge of Revolt!
★★★★★ King David, brilliantly evoked, December 18, 2014
By Convoke "lokhos" (USA)

"The Edge of Revolt (The David Chronicles Book Three)" is volume III of the The David Chronicles trilogy, told by the king himself. David is candid and direct and uses modern language that at times is startlingly direct. Immediately, David launches you into a story happening here and now. Since each volume of this brilliant trilogy can be read as a standalone novel, "The Edge of Revolt" is a fine place to begin this biographical fantasy that shows you the world through David's eyes from youth to old age.
In this volume, David struggles to balance the demands of family and and justice. You're with him through biblical events retold with a modern passion, you're there when Amnon rapes his daughter, Tamar; when Absalom lures Amnon to his death. You are inside the king's mind when he allows these comes to go unpunished,.
Even more fascinating than the biblical world Uvi draws are the changes undergone by David as he matures.
When David loses his throne and flees his own son, Abasalom, you feel the king's pain.
Let me make no bones about it: I adore this series -- not only the quality of the writing, but also the writer's ability to transport us into another mind, another time, another ethos that changes and solidifies as David matures. Read this book. Read this series. be waned that the tales have graphic language and painful moments. These are biblical tales, after all, told by a master interpreter who can make her characters breathe and love and hate and win and lose as they've never done before.
If you read nothing else this year, read The David Chronicles. Begin with The Edge of Revolt.

Here is a wonderfully eloquent review describing each volume my trilogy, The David Chronicles as "Infusing events with today's passions and her unique style":
★★★★★ Wonderful series!, January 12, 2015
By Warrior Princess (Karmoy, Norway) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The David Chronicles: Boxed Set (Kindle Edition)
What a wonderful series!
Rise to Power
This adaptation of a familiar story from the Old Testament is unique and feels very modern. From the very first line of the prologue, the story drew me in, partly because of the masterful use of the first person by the author, and partly because of her engaging writing style. The scene of King David as a prisoner trying to escape and tell his story to liberate his soul is compelling and highly readable.
And then the story gets even better. Like all Uvi Poznansky's books, this one has crisp and engaging dialogue, well-drawn characters and a unique plot. It was interesting for me to see the events from King David's perspective and trace his journey from childhood to maturity and right into today's time, making the story relevant and engaging for today's readers. In this story, King David is not a mythical hero - he comes across as a real person, imperfect, flawed, and experiencing conflicting emotions - and that makes him so much more relatable, and his story - so much more compelling. A great read! Five stars.
A Peek at Batsheba
An enjoyable and thought-provoking book! Uvi Poznansky makes the story of King David accessible and interesting. King David is very much a human being before he is King and, like all people, he has human struggles and emotions, eternal and ever-lasting.
While Uvi Poznansky's book clearly stems from her extensive knowledge of the biblical story, research, and art history (she's an artist herself, too!), this book is a work of fiction, written in a contemporary voice that makes it much easier for today's readers to relate to the story and to King David.
Descriptions in "A Peek at Bathsheba" are beautiful, vivid, majestic and poetic. The book is a work of art but it is also an engaging story - what a treat! I love Uvi Poznansky's subtle humor and insightful commentaries. I'm curious to see how the change in Bathsheba that is beginning in this book will play out in the next book in the David Chronicles series. Five stars!
The Edge of Revolt
Torn in a heart-breaking dilemma between loyalty and justice, King David makes the choice dictated by his heart, and that results in a series of grave consequences for the king himself, his family, and country. His future life, legacy, and the potential successor are now all unclear. Like in her previous books, Uvi Poznansky masterfully interprets biblical events for the modern reader, infusing them with today's passions and her unique style, making the old stories highly relatable, engaging, and emotional. What a great series!

This book is a collection of four stories, each one an interesting tale of mystery and intrigue. While the plots and settings are different, there is a common thread throughout them all. I found them to be captivating and I was drawn in them with the rich descriptive nature that Uvi Poznansky has with her writing ability. The bonus is exceptional too, the poem and the artwork, to me, is very introspective, simply well done and serves as the icing on the cake. This is a book that I would suggest to those who want to get lost for a few hours and be held captive till the end in an enchanting tale, albeit dark and mysterious.

I loved the entire series of… The David Chronicles … I got seduced by the scenic ambience and delectable poetry that Uvi Poznansky dishes up. Rich and tasty, a sumptuous banquet befitting King David himself.
The power, intrigue and conflict that dominates this series is balanced in the most complimentary way. Contrasted by the use of delicate prose and absorbing passion.
I first read Uvi Poznansky to help me improve my own writing. I greatly admire her skills, so much so I’m often compelled to call refer to her as ma’am.
I would happily recommend any of her titles as I’ve read them all. I’m a bit of a fan.

From time to time I take long walks along the beach. On one of these occasions, a particular type of seaweed rotting down there, on the sand, caught my eye. Uvi Poznansky wears a coat of many colors. Originally from Israel where she studied Architecture and Town Planning then moving to the US where she studied Computer Science and became an expert in Software Engineering, Poznansky managed to combine the design elements of two studies into unique formats. And she has accomplished the same with the other side of her brain - making visual her ideas (she is an accomplished painter, drawer, and sculptor who has enjoyed exhibitions both in Israel and in California, her present base) and making words in poetry and in short stories and children's books. THE EDGE OF REVOLT is her third installment of THE DAVID CHRONICLES novel and is adorned on the cover with an image of her own painting!
But the miracle of Uvi Poznansky's writing is her uncanny ability to return to old stories and make them brilliantly fresh. This retelling of the Biblical David unveils a character far more profound and fragile than the slayer of Goliath. His personality radiates from every page as he progresses to old age and Poznansky's gift for poetry renders a magical hue to every aspect of this story. At times startling, as times awe-inspiring, and at all times fine reading, this is a welcome addition to the growing library of one our more important writers.

All of me... Oh let me kiss you, my sweet valentine

PC Zick, the gifted author of several genres--contemporary fiction, romance, and nonfiction--won various awards for her essays, columns, editorials, articles, and fiction. She is also an avid reader. I am thrilled to find her in-depth review of my novel, Apart From Love, on her 'Book Review Friday' column, as well as on Amazon. This is what she writes:
★★★★★ Richly layered work of art

Here is an astounding book from Uvi Poznansky with her work of literary fiction, Apart from Love. Ms. Poznansky is a multi-talented author and artist, and with this novel, she creates a multi-faceted and multi-layered work of art.
The story is told through the first person narrations of Anita, the new wife of Lenny and step-mother to the other narrator, Ben. The point of view is unique because the story is more about the love between Ben's parents, Lenny and Natasha, than the other two, who form another sort of love story. Ben's separation from his home for ten years only shows the level of dysfunction in this family. I use the word "dysfunction" with disdain sometimes because it is overused to the point where it sometimes means very little. But if any family is dysfunctional, it is this one.
During Ben's absence, the lack of communication with his mother and father is evident when he comes home. For a decade, he assumed his talented pianist mother is out on tour, when in fact, his father is hiding something quite important from his son about Natasha.
In the meantime, Lenny has remarried Anita who is one year younger than Ben. She's a beauty--a younger version of Natasha. It's complicated and completely dysfunctional in the true meaning of that word.
Literary techniques abound in Apart from Love. The author skillfully creates symbols and metaphors with the white piano in the living room, the antique mirror in the bedroom, and the tape recorder on the balcony. The point of view represents the author's skill in writing dialogue that characterizes both Ben and Anita. It's obvious when switching between chapters who is the narrator, even though Ms. Poznansky tells the reader if it's Ben or Anita in each chapter title. That's helpful, but with her paintbrush, she paints prose that is distinct for each one.
Alzheimers rears its horrifying head in parts of the story, as does the family's inability to know how to deal with it. Insanity hovers at the edges of all the characters as well, presenting the reader with that fine line between genius and the alternative.
If that's not enough, Lenny is a writer who uses the words of others to create his stories. The blurred lines between reality and fiction are explored in this intimate look at how authors sometimes steal identities from others to draw portraits of real life. It's haunting in its honesty of how an author works. The "record, rewind, record" element of the story reminds me that all reality is really the fiction of our imaginations.
Uvi Poznansky is a talented author who says in her bio, "I paint with my pen, and write with my paintbrush." The cover of Apart from Love and the content in between are assurances that this is true.

Strangely, Satan does not frighten me that much anymore. And so, swaying on my hip bones, I strut out of the cave in his direction. I feel an odd urge to fondle his horns. Along the path toward him I make sure to suck in my belly, because in the company of a gentleman, even a corpse is entitled to look her best—

Dianne Harman draws her stories and characters from a diverse business and personal background. She owned a national antique and art appraisal business for many years, left that industry, and opened two yoga centers where she taught yoga and certified yoga instructors. I am thrilled that she invited me for an interview. Her first question to me was, Tell us about Anita, the girl in the midst of a firestorm of passion in your book, Apart From Love?
