"Death Comes To Pemberley," by P.D. James and "The Charming Quirks of Others" by Alexander McCall Smith

Follow up - June 15 - "Death Comes to Pemberley" was a major disappointment. I don't normally read modern sequels to Jane Austen books but was lured into this one because of P.D. James' reputation.

Alexander McCall Smith's book, however, was delightful.

Kristen (kjsmulvihill) | 7 comments By any chance have you read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay? I finished it before starting The Night Circus, and it's interesting to compare them.

Kristen (kjsmulvihill) | 7 comments Which children's books have you read recently? What do they ask you to read more than once?

Bill Sannwald (raroo) | 4 comments My son decided he wanted to learn more about Santa Claus all of a sudden, so we've been reading a couple chapters of The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus each night before bed. Honestly, the poetics are a little too complex for his 5-year-old brain, but I think he likes hearing me read to him more than anything.

Before that, we went through all of the George & Martha books by James Marshall. Other recent favorites have included The Mysterious Tadpole, Pig Pig Grows Up, Curious George Takes a Job, and Mary Alice Operator No. 9.

We were lucky enough to be gifted a huge collection of children's books that have been passed around our family since the time my kids' 20-something cousins were toddlers. My kids love going to our bookshelf and picking out stuff to read at night. They also get excited when I bring home new and interesting books from the library. :-)

I just finished two books that I would highly recommend:
Finnikin of the Rock
and
The Evolution of Bruno Littlemore

Kristen (kjsmulvihill) | 7 comments Has anyone read Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him? I just learned about it from an infopeople webinar about veterans. I want to read it because it has a golden retriever in it. But I don't like reading books where an animal dies at the end. If you have read it, tell me what you think. Or if you can recommend any good books with dogs or cats where they don't die at the end, please let me know. Thanks!
