Excellent! You made the choice from my Dusty Bookshelf WAY to easy! Definitely The Princess Bride!!!
Sounds like fun, but I don't watch many movies, so I'll pass on the mini challenge.

Well, I suppose I should finally try to read The Da Vinci Code, but I don't have the movie nor the inclination to watch it again at this time. I do have a few 'dusty' plays that have been made into movies that I would actually like to own, so I may order one or two (or three...) of those, and do that.

@ChimneyThe movie of Inkheart was disappointing, even more so because it was really well cast. I mean Andy Serkis as Capricorn, Paul Bettany as Dustfinger, it could have been epic. But they tried to make it too childish and it wasn't scary and didn't make much sense anymore. But I guess it was alright just not compared with the book which was AMAZING.
I can't make up my mind over what dusty-book to choose as lots of mine have been made into films that I've been putting off watching until I read the book.
I suppose Treasure Island (though I saw the Muppets version) or Three Musketeers even though I've seen the movie. Or maybe HG Wells Island of Dr Moreau.

I agree Orla...I was very disappointed in the movie! Especially the end! (view spoiler)
Still can't decide between Interview with the Vampire or Three Musketeers! Seen the movie (which, I'll gladly watch either again!:) But, never read the books for these!

The movies are around thirteen, if I choose to take ten minute breaks between each one. (: Trust me, I've had enough LotR marathons to count! How many all-nighters have I pulled in order to watch them all? (:

I have them on Blu-Ray! Extended and beautiful. (: Definitely one of the best Christmas presents EVER. Although before we had the blu-ray versions, we just had them on DVD. When my friend and I had marathons then, we had to try and watch them on the TV; but since we'd lost disc two to Return of the King, we had to put it on the laptop (since I had copies on the computer for editing videos with) and project it onto a sheet--and lean in REAL close to the computer since the audio was so low. It's been interesting!

That sounds like a lot of effort to watch films - i'm glad my laptop & TV play DVDs well enough for me to watch sooo many ;) Rewatched the 4 Resident Evil films over the weekend... that was fun ;D
Wow! I'm impressed with both of your abilites to do any marathons:) I guess since I have to get up and deal with kids in the am....there are no more marathons...one movie at a time:) It took us a good month to get through the LOTR! :) But it was worth it, it gave us something to look forward to all week! ...and no blu-ray here...I'm one of those who will use my VCR until it breaks...YUP! I still have a VCR! We do have a dvd player, but it's just a regular ole dvd player! :) Thank goodness for free movies from the library! :D My movies this weekend were Brother Bear 2 (again with the kids) and a free pick off the Roku box that was so bad I can't even remember what it was! I know, I'm a party girl! Hahahah!!!! :)

Isn't it AMAZING....how many movies actually come from books anyway! It seems like every movie I watch...the beginning a reference to "movie based on book by...." It totally makes my rule of not watching the movie before reading the book...void! :) I try, but I'm always amazed...We started watching Gallipoli (an 80's WWI movie with a very young Mel Gibson) last night, and it too....was based on a book! CRAZY! There are some deep thoughts by April...I know, I know....!

However, I'm really looking forward to it now that it's on the To Read list. Even if there are significant changes in the film compared to the book or the book is super-fantastic (or a piece of garbage, which I doubt) the thought of it being able to diminish my love of the movie is...wait for it...INCONCEIVABLE!

How about screen to book? I wouldn't normally but I do want to read the book version of The Killing.
Don't worry, April, I also still have a VCR! I invested a lot of money in those tapes, and I want to be able to watch them! I do sometimes replace them with DVDs if I can get it really cheap, or more often, when I buy a box set that has some that I already have and some that I don't. I actually have a combination VCR/DVD player. Then I also have a BluRay player, that was part of a 'home theatre in a box', with surround sound. So I actually watch all my DVDs on that, because it's better. I only have one BluRay, of Halloween, only because it was part of an anniversary box set I got, which has about six or seven DVDs and the one BluRay. I don't really want to pay the higher price for BluRays, so I'm still buying DVDs.And I do have the box set of Lord of the Rings (on DVD)! I still haven't watched all of the special features, though.
I have a VCR, too! Even though I own most Disney movies on DVD, I'll still watch them on the VCR just for fun. (:To be honest, we just have a blu ray player upstairs so we can ge to Netflix on it! (: And the one downstairs is only because the PS3 reads blu rays! We still just generally buy DVDs, but since RotK was missing the second disc, we decided just to buy the whole set. (: (In reality, they're like, the ONLY blu ray movies we own!)
Denise, some of the special features on fun! It was either on a special feature or on a blooper somewhere online that I saw this; you know when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli find those Orc remains burning and think Merry and Pippin burned, too? Aragorn kicks a helmet a falls to his knees--they were doing that take for HOURS, trying to get it JUST right, and finally, during that final shot, when Viggo fell to his knees, the director praised him so much for throwing so much emotion into it. In reality, Viggo broke his toes against the helmet, but they went with that shot anyway. (:

I never thought of that! The only books I know of that are based on movies are the Star Wars Prequels. I think it counts. Go for it!
I'll be doing "The Interview with the Vampire" that month, it's on its way from the library. I've been reading to read it and see the movie since I heard about it, and I've started it a few times, but school go in the way, but since I'm not doing a summer semester this year it can't distract me.

Put aside finishing North & South until I've written the reviews for the books I read over the holiday - but love it more than I loved the BBC adaptation (and that's saying something).

I finished reading The Children's Hour, by Lillian Hellman, so now I just have to watch the movie, which I hope to get to this weekend! I love this movie (with Audrey Hepburn and Shirley Maclaine), but it's been a while since I've seen it, so I am looking forward to it. Despite its innocent-sounding title, this has a very adult theme, and a little girl who reminds me of The Bad Seed, although she doesn't murder anybody, just ruins their lives. The ending is heart-breaking - no happy ending here, for any of the characters. Luckily, I was familiar with the story, because the edition I have, which shows photos from the movie on the front and back covers, also gives away all the spoilers in the back blurb. Interestingly, the caption for the photo on the back says the movie is called The Loudest Whisper, but as far as I know (and I've been seeing it on TV since I was pretty young), it has always had the same name as the play.

I'm sure that screen to page will count just fine towards the challenge, the point is to get something off of your dusty shelf and watch the corresponding movie in the process.On a personal note, I just started
this morning. Only 10 pages in, but it's got my attention so far!
Just put the movie "Interview with the Vampire" on hold! Only one prob now! The next book "The Vampire Lestat" came in...so even though it's NOT on my dusty shelf...It would make me sad to send it back unread! :)
