Moloch | 3975 comments From my understanding Goodreads selects a "genre" for each book based on the number of times it's shelved on a certain shelf (such as romance, science fiction, etc).
So, if the book is not popular (not shelved by many people), it has no genre, but it only shows the "top shelves". Right?
The Genre section on the right is only compiled automatically? Or can we set genre(s) manually for those books that still don't belong to none? Thanks

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Not that I have ever seen/ read about here, unless GR staff can do it but that I doubt.

Genres are crowd sourced from shelves as you rightly indicate

Moloch | 3975 comments I have another question. What if one Genre is "wrong"? I've found a book by Garcia Marquez that had the genre European literature > Spanish literature, can I delete (or flag) it (and leave only Latin American literature, already there)?

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments I would say that since Genres are crowd sourced from peoples shelves someone one has shelved it that way.

There is no way for Librarians to change it, it would be like me re shelving your books because I don't agree with how you have categorized your books.

Edit: rivka may be able to say differently
