If I can make the trip to Dublin happen, it'll be a 3 day trip in the next...two weeks or so.

melissa, I lived in England for three years too but was never so cold like now for me. brrrrrrr
Yes, I live in Dublin but only since the 19th of November. So I am not updated enough yet to give advice. But then again, the centre of Dublin isn't that big and you can walk around and around and jsut see a lot. I wouldn't buy too many books about it because I don't think it is big enough for that. Just maybe a map and a simple guide book with like the most interesting things to do. St Patrick's church and the other big one are very beautiful. You can also do a tour on the bus so you see the main things. I think I want to do that one, so I see a bit what interesting things there are and so I know what I really want to visit.
You can also check a bit what is interesting on the internet. I like two of them: http://www.visitdublin.com/

Hope it helps a bit. Don't forget to go in a typical Irish pub! ;-)

Tomorrow's a new day....

Lynlee, it is a start! Now try for 15 days at least. Maybe that is an idea for all of you who are trying to be strong. tell yourself days you can't buy any books and make them longer every time....
Fiona, wasn't that a positive contribution from a not participating person??!!!!

HMMM????

This is going to be much tougher than I had anticipated.

No, you're not! You will SUCCEED at your mission because you have will-power and fortitude and over 200 unread books that are weeping from negligence.
*shakes head*

I spent a whopping 3.00

I'm holding out though. I have so many books to read that I'm sure these others will get posted again by the time I finish the 150 books I already own...

becky, I started actually being of positive influence!:-) But maybe Fiona needs some pressure and no kind words to keep her promise!

Oh me too!! My boyfriend got me a few books for Christmas and I think I was just sitting there smelling them for like... 5 minutes before he goes, 'are you ok?' haha
I have to STOP buying books and read the ones I have! I read enough where buying books is not a bad thing but I just own SO MANY of them, I don't know what to do with them!

I went into B&N this weekend with a $50 giftcard in my purse and didn't buy a single book. Still on the wagon...for now.

My boyfriend knows I'm only supposed to buy one book a month. I bought two at Target yesterday and said they were January and February. I did not tell him about the three I ordered online that he will never know about...
If I can make it another 353 days buying only 7 books it will be a miracle. I'm keeping track so I know how far over the limit I go...I really hope it won't be more than 30 or I'll really feel like a failure.

Fiona you just reminded me that I am waiting on "The Amulet of Samarkand" from BookMooch. I ordered it in November but the person offering it said that she wasn't sure when she'd be able to send it. So whenever that one comes, I'm done. (It is already included on my list though!)

I think I'm gonna alternate between reading one library book and one of mine. So far I've read one of mine and I'm currently reading one from the library. I think this will help me not feel so deprived.

I visit the library in my time of NEED...and never one book at a time...what if that one was the 'wrong' choice for my mood and I have nothing else to turn to?! *Gasp!* The local Community Thrift Store has paperbacks for only 50c/hardcover is $1...fortunately, I'm only in that area of town once every 2 weeks. These are my 'fallback' books...when the 'liberry' ones are on empty or they're kept in the car for those 'stuck' moments.
A woman, who works at an independant bookstore in town, came into my place of employment recently....I asked what their employee-discount is...40% off!!!!
Did you just get a 'shiver' on hearing that? I did.

If I could barely get through it, it goes.
If I finished it, set it on the shelf and never thought of it again, it goes.
If I finished it and thought of it again, but only that it should go on the "Top 10 Books To Avoid" thread, it goes.
If it was OK, but I think that maybe I will appreciate it more later, it stays.
If I loved it and want to keep it around for further enjoyment, it stays.

Personally, as much as I love new books, I really like the yellowy pages in old books. I like the smell too. Like water. Sort of.

I certainly hope so, because it's very discouraging to look at my overflowing shelves and boxes and compare it to my age and wonder how I'm going to read it all before dying ... and still buy more books!

I started reading one of my own books last night.

fiona I havent even gotten myself a copy.. oh boy! the gifchek I got for christmas is making me ichy

I bought a copy of Catch-22 because my old copy was falling apart. It doesn't count as breaking the code if it's just replacing books, does it?

I just wouldn't manage Fiona. I remember I ones gave away a book I had twice and it was still in plastic and everything....but it was hard. I think there are just a part of me ones i have them. And maybe also the fact that since I am a kid I adore books. i always used to dream about the day I would have money to buy me books. In the meantime I adored going to the library but still...one day I would buy books. Since the day I started earning money....a dream came real...... Maybe I just can't give up on them now after all the dreaming. I am just in love with having my books:-))))

Nice..... ;-)))))

oooooh, great. Never thought about that. well, i never really believed about after dead things but imagine....even reading after your dead....hehe

Oh yes. I didn't even FEEL like acquiring a book. "
She did it, she did it!!!!! celebration time!!!!

When I moved and had to 'keep or toss' certain books, I discovered that I had three copies of Lord of the Flies! I absolutely HATED that book! Think that they were accumulated for 'required' reading. I tried to give them away, only to find out that everyone else I knew hated them, as well! HA!
So, now they are either in a landfill OR look for them at your local "Library Book Sale"!

Groan ... my youngest daughter wants to know why I keep buying more books when I have yet to read the ones I now own? Good question! I, like others in this "thread", need to stop borrowing and begin taking books off my own book shelves ... but then why can't they just stop publishing new books, LOL!!!
