I've heard really good things about Stargate. I need to watch them... when I get done with Star Trek. I'm a HUGE Star Trek fan... We're just finishing up Voyager. (Janeway is a crazy woman!!)

As for BSG... we're like 8 or 10 episodes behind, but we're getting two discs from Netflix (they've already released the first half of Season 4 on DVD, apparently), then we should be able to find the rest online. I've just been so busy with the Winter Book Challenge that I barely have time to eat, sleep, work, work out (while reading), and then read some more! ;)

Do you think cinnamon bears are more nutritional than ramen noodles? Just curious. Yes! Go celebrate with real food!

message 504: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Ramen noodles do not require preparation according to teenagers! It's so gross. They crunch up the RAW noodles, sprinkle on the packet, and eat! Cinnamon Bears are way better.

What's BSG? I feel as if I should know.

Does that mean YOUR work on the grant app is done, or does it mean she was denied? (fingers still crossed)

message 505: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Me too!!! My very favorite Next Generation episode is Measure of a Man. Data is the best! Have you seen any of the pictures of Spiner in full makeup smoking? I guess he's like a chain smoker, and they just crack me up!

message 506: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I agree. I like different angles sometimes, but I don't need to see the same scene from 50 angles in 2 minutes just to get the idea that something BIG is happening!

message 507: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) Saved By Grace wrote: "I used to watch the Next Generation/ones with Data in them a lot, but it was on TV and they never showed them in order ... I should get all the seasons/episodes. That way I actually get what's going on. ^_^"

Yeah, The Next Generation (TNG) is my favorite, too. And, let's be totally honest. Data was great, but I had a crush on Wesley Crusher. He was a cutie. I get the old episodes from Netflix. The seasons are VERY expensive--like $50 per season, and there are 7 of them!!

message 508: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) 7 discs. 4 on each except last one, which has 2, plus special features. 6 x 4 = 24 + 2 = 26 episodes, plus special features.

Like I said. I do Netflix. $18 a month for 3 discs at a time. If you watch them pretty quickly, you can get through 12-16 discs a month (3-4 a week). 14 discs would be 2 seasons.

message 509: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My friend gets hers from the library. I tend to buy shows I like on DVD, but you can order almost anything in thelibrary system. Here, there are ususally one or two discs together, that count as a borrowed book. You can borrow up to 3. It's free, and if you order them, they are there waiting for you.
There's a show called Farscape I really want to watch beginning to end,but it is way expensive, so we are beorrowing those. You could try that route.

Kandice I love hair, just not mine!
I detest the smell of any kindof muscle rub! Gross!

message 511: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Brat!
Okay, I am at a point in "O" where I simply do NOT want to read anymore! I am so frustrated with this damn woman! She ownt listen to Jamie or her heart! If she would just listen, everything would be roses...but does she? No!!!!!
Don't tell me, but I am sincerely frustrated!!!!!

I love that smell.... I know I'm strange, but that's okay. It smells nummy. AND I love the hot-cold feeling... It's great stuff.

What are you reading that has you so frustrated??

message 513: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I hate movies like this too. Where bad thing after bad thing happens. I get so frustrated, I start balling my hands into fists, and get, literally, stressed over "what now"? Can't say I don't get into my stories, huh?

I hope your neck feels better. *strokes birdie's back*

Outlander. My kids and husband love that smell too. I really hate it. I have been known to sleep on the couch rather than smell it on my husband.

What's RSI? You can never spend too much time on GR's.

message 516: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Oh! I feel a little silly!
I am going to spend the next 30 minutes I have, until I have to leave for work, making myself read "O". I have to see what happens, and I know myself well enough to know I will keep putting it off...

message 517: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hehe, I like odd smells too, like new electronic equipment and ozone (air-conditioner smell!) and diesel exhaust. I'm weird, I know.

Poor Fiona! You need a secretary to keep up with GR for you so that you can rest your neck and back. We should all pitch in for one for you... What's your preference? Geek/chic efficient librarian type or hunky hunt&peck manly type? Your choice. ;)

just keep reading!!!!!

message 519: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Oh wow! I am so relieved! Now, I can continue to read and not feel so worried about the outcome! Hooray Claire!!!!
Second hand smoke? Gross! I do like the smell of gas, though. I also kind of like the smell of skunk. How weird is that?

message 520: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) That is gross Kandice. Thomas likes it too, and I think it is the most disgusting smell in the universe. OK.. Maybe just ONE of the most disgusting smells in the universe.

Dumpster Juice is high on that list too... *shudder*

message 521: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I guess if you're tall, your legs could be half your body.

I like glue, wood smoke, the ocean/sea, including seaweed (Rachel), and lots of other things. I am a scent-a-holic. I have tons of candles, lotions, air fresheners, whatever. My husband teases me that I never know what my environment really smells like, because I am always covering it with another smell.

For some reason, though, I don't like scented things that smell like foods. Vanilla, apples, pears, oranges, etc...

message 522: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I like the smell of skunks too.

Not so much that I try to like...hit them in the road or anything...usually...

haha, just kidding. But its almost like...its so bad that its almost good? maybe?

message 523: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) A fresh rustic wheat bread and some cucumbers, sprouts, tomatoes and a little lettuce (and maybe a little mayo).

holy crap that sounds good.

message 524: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I'm going for Indian food today with my friend Joanna... I love Indian food. *drool* I'm starving.

Kandice, I don't like a lot of smells... I don't really like scented anything unless the scent is "clean". LOL I don't like food-scented stuff, and I get unscented (or clean smelling) lotions. I don't even like incense.

I have a super-nose though, so a lot of smells are overpowering to me...

message 525: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) And... I love avocados. I wish I could eat one right now. A little salt, and a spoon, thats all I'd need.

message 526: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I recently discovered Quorn. Its friggin delicious! I'd like to know what it is, because its the best non-meat substance out there.

message 527: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) for real, "chicken" Quorn is by far my favorite meat substitute.

message 528: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Mmm... I know, Rachel.

I'm so hungry!!

message 529: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) umm... what is "bubbles and squeak"?

message 530: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) That looks yummy... Oh goodness, I need to go get food before I start eating the screen.

message 531: by Kandice (last edited Feb 06, 2009 02:04PM) (new)

Kandice Those look amaztastic!!!! I like avocados like crazy. They are everywhere here. I like to cut them in half, put a tiny bit of mayo in the pit hole, salt it, and just scoop it with a spoon. Ummm...heaven.

I've never even heard of quorn

Rachel, Shanks was too low! We need another;)

Kandice My paycheck from work bounced! My boss called me into her office as soon as I got to work. They had a new one all ready. I didn't even know, because I always deposit it at the ATM. I pretty much nver go in the bank. I have a new check (good) but I need to get it in the bank, so nothing else bounces! I don;t get off until 6, so I will have to deposit this in the ATM as well. I did call the bank, and they are aware. AAAARGGHHH!

message 536: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Uhh... how does that happen?

message 537: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I jave no idea. I admit I didn't really ask, either. It just didn't feel appropriate at the time. Everyone gets paid the same day, and as far as I can tell, only 8 of us out of about 300 got these bum checks. My bank is willing to waive all overdraft fees, but my friend's si not. The company will repay her for them, but she has to get doucmentation and submit it to payroll. It's a hassle.

message 538: by Becky (last edited Feb 06, 2009 03:52PM) (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Thats not good. I have direct deposit, so I know my money is there the night before payday.

My bank account online likes to be all friendly and helpful: "You have a deposit from ______ in the amount of ______ that will be available tomorrow."

Very convenient. You should get direct deposit Kandice!

message 539: by Kandice (last edited Feb 06, 2009 04:20PM) (new)

Kandice The problem with direct deposit where I work, is that we get paid the 1st and 15th of each month. If you do not have direct deposit, you get your check the last day you work before that date, if you are off that day. With direct deposit, if that date falls on a weekend or holiday, you don't get it deposited until the 2nd business day after.
If I was a better budgeter (I suck at it, I admit it) those 3-5 days wouldn't make a difference, but, unfortunately, they do.
I wish they did the deposit the night before, like your employer does. I could do that. No mad dash to the bank or ATM.

message 540: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Man... way to help out their employees! Jeez.

Speaking of budgets, I just went on Quicken.com and did myself up a spankin' new shiny budget! I'm no good at them, so I'm glad that Quicken is simple for poor budget-challenged girls like me.

But I REALLY, REALLY needed to do one. I swear money just grows legs and walks away in my house and then I'm left with the electricity bill in hand, trying to peek under the couch to see if I can find any little green feet sticking out. Its a damn shame. Hopefully this will help. :)

message 541: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I have to admit, my husband does all of our accounting. He pays all the bills. I am responsible for my gas, groceries, Dr. co-pays, kids expenses, things like that. I mean, I know how much I can spend on groceries, and I know about how much gas I use, but as far as things the kids need, prescriptions and co-pays, those are more of an "as they come" expense.
I don't get to the point where I am checking couch cushions for money, or anything. LOL I just plan all my big grocery trips around paychecks, and I would be way pressed to go grocery shopping five days late. 3 kids and all their little visitors eat a LOT of food!
I think if my husband wasn't responsible for bills, we'd end up on the street. Or with no electricty;)

Not sure if you're interested, but Suzie Orman was offering her Suze Orman's 2009 Action Plan book for free on Oprah.com. I had downloaded it, but haven't had a chance to read it over. She was offering sound advice though on the show. You're doing good by taking the first step in creating a budget, it's following it that's the hard part. :)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Oh please don't remind me of payroll problems..... now that it is solved for me I think they took really alot of taxes out becauseI am on emergency taxes but they told me it would only be from the second month. I guess it isn't...

message 545: by Kandice (new)

Kandice It WAS our payroll girl that made the mistake. The company I work for was started from scratch by this guy who hired friends in the beginning. He is now a millionaire, but in the meantime, a lot of people work for him that do not have the education or skills required for their jobs! It's sweet that he took care of friends, but sometimes it backfires!
I can't really complain. I started working there as a regular customer service rep. I DO NOT have any sort of degree to support the position I have now, so if I start complaining about others... A bit like the pot calling the kettle black:)

message 547: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm sorry Fiona. There could never be an excuse for a comment like that, but if she had just been squaking at your dad, she may have realized she was being ridiculous. Instead of doing what would be logical...appologizing, she tries to justify her tantrum in her head, and begins to tell her self EVERYONE irritates her, and voila...justification. Now she can be mean to you too, because you happen to be there.
As a mom, I can't imagine ever saying that, but as a person, I know I say things I regret later. I really am soory, dear. I can't imagine how much that would hurt MY feelings.
*smoothes birdie's feathers*

message 548: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Maybe it's hormonal? Wrong side of the bed? Whatever. Don't let it suck the joy out of YOUR day. Of course it hurts your feelings, but if you KNOW she wont say sorry, don't expect it. Then you wont be even more disapointed.
My mother-in-law has a tendency to spout out whatever pissy thing she's thinking. No filter between brain and mouth. Later, when she's no longer in a bad mood she seems shocked that people are less than pleased with her. She was an only child, so I think that may be part of it. If you don't have to learn, at a early age, to get along, you just can't seem to grasp it later.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Oh no Fiona! Your mom said that to you? That's terrible! There's no reason I could ever think of that a parent should say something so hurtful to their child.

If it's any consolation, I'm glad you were born.
