Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Cheryl has found a place that will do custom blends of tea. The prices are reasonable. $4.75/10 or $8.50/20. There are options available to help keep shipping prices down. $3.50 for flat rate package instead of $5.00.

The moderators have come up with a contest. Name That Tea for our TBR Topplers!

The rules. Submit a maximum of two names for our tea in this thread. On May 6th, the nominations will be closed and I will put up a poll to vote on the tea. The top two will be named the winners and we will then decide on the type of tea and the flavours. The winners will each receive 3 bags of the tea they named as their prize.

Nominate away!

I'm so glad that you all check my spelling. I'd be hopeless without your help.

That's Toppler Keep Awake Tea. But, I could also see a benefit to Toppler Keep Away Tea too, but how nasty would it have to be to achieve the proper effect?

I thought of Toppler Tippler Tea on the same theme, but decided against it!

Vote for your favorite name for our custom blended tea.

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments OMG! I won! I won!!

(sorry, just a little excited, just be glad we don't have font size and color options)

message 16: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Jaxnsmom & Almeta won for Tipsy Toppler Tea and Proper Toppler Tea. Congratulations to both!

Now we need to decide on flavours for our teas.

I think the Tipsy Toppler Tea would be something spicy, and Proper Toppler Tea as something more formal and mellow, maybe a white tea.

How are we going to determine this? I guess we'll start with taking suggestions from members.

Thoughts?

message 17: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Those ideas sound good. First let me find the information about what the options are, though, before anybody says anything.

message 18: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Right - good point, Cheryl!

message 19: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) 1. Choose a base:
**Black tea : a rich blend of black teas from Sri Lanka
**Oolong : a middle of the road tea which may help in weight loss
**Green : high in antioxidants that strengthen the immune system
**Rooibos : antioxidant rich caffeine free, great before bed

2. Choose your flavors:
FLAVOR 1: FLAVOR 2:

Available Flavors:
Almond, Amaretto, Anise, Apple, Apricot, Banana, Blackberry, Blueberry, Caramel, Cinnamon, Chai, Cherry, Chestnut, Chocolate, Cider, Coconut, Cranberry, Ginger, Hazelnut, Honey, Irish Creme, Lemon, Mango, Maple, Mocha, Nutmeg, Orange, Passion Fruit, Peach, Pear, Pecan, Peppermint, Pina Colada, Pineapple, Plum, Pomegranate, Pumpkin, Raspberry, Rum, Spice, Strawberry, Vanilla, Wintergreen and Zabaglione.

message 20: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Well that was easier than I thought it would be.

I'm thinking the Proper would be Green with Pecan (or another nut) and Blueberry (or another fruit).

I see there's a Rum flavor for the Tipsy!

message 21: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11457 comments Tipsy Toppler = Black tea, Rum and spices! (sounds tipsy to me)

Proper = Green tea, honey and pecan. (sounds properly healthy☺)

message 22: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Tipsy Toppler - black tea, amaretto and blackberry
Amaretto tea is said to be delicious and luxurious. For an added bonus, top the hot tea with whipped cream.

Proper Toppler - green tea, chai and honey (one of my favorites)

message 23: by Almeta (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11457 comments jaxnsmom wrote: "Proper Toppler - green tea, chai and..."

I'm pretty fond of chai myself. Always had it with darker tea though.

message 24: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I agree, Almeta, on both counts.
But jaxnsmom's ideas sound intriguing!

message 25: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Almeta wrote: "I'm pretty fond of chai myself. Always had it with darker tea though."

I just picked green tea for those healthy antioxidants :) I could go either way.

message 26: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I like Almeta's Tipsy Topler flavours.

For Proper Toppler, I think of teas like Earl Grey, English Breakfast, etc. So I'd suggest an Oolong tea with vanilla and nutmeg.

message 27: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Good point, Judy. It looks like the only one that's decaf is this one: "Rooibos : antioxidant rich caffeine free, great before bed"

And I have no idea what that tastes like, whether it's bold or mild, mellow or sharp... does anyone know?

message 28: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Would it be better suited to 'proper' or 'tipsy' ?

message 29: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Judy wrote: "Kimberly likes Rooibos and so do I. It has a unique flavor. There isn't anything in the world that I've tasted that would be similar, at least that I can think of. Kimberly, can you think of anythi..."

Nope, I think Rooibos (which I'm drinking right now) is a unique flavour that can't really be compared to anything else. I think thought that maybe nutmeg, or spice may work in it though because of the earthy tones in the flavours.

Would honey tone it down? It would be nice to have a decaf.

message 31: by Kimberly (last edited May 18, 2012 09:45PM) (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Honey wouldn't work, it's far to sweet for Rooibos tea, well for me it is. It just doesn't work with the earthiness...it makes it very medicinal tasting.

message 32: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'll contact him again, see if he has a suggestion.

message 33: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments There seem to be a lot of green teas that are de-caf. I hope they have some.

message 34: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I asked Brian and this is what he said:

"Rooibos is the only 100% naturally decaffeinated tissane we offer. BUT we have blended in with a decaf green and black if requested for special orders and/or events.
Your lucky day :)"

I'm not sure I understand that, do any of you?

message 35: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments It sounds like they can get decaf green and black teas from else where if needed, but they don't carry it. Wonder if that increases cost?

message 36: by Snoozie Suzie (new)

Snoozie Suzie (snooziesuzie) | 937 comments They will get a decaf green or black tea in if we want them to and use that as the base to add the flavours.
:-)

message 37: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) So, then we'll be asking for a Proper Toppler with a decaf green as the base, right? And which flavors? Pecan and vanilla are looking like they've achieved consensus to me, and would be compatible with each other.

And the Tipsy blend could be a compromise of black tea with amaretto or rum plus blackberry, maybe?

message 38: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I thought I would let you all ruminate over this some more over the weekend and then put up another poll to determine the flavours for both teas.

message 39: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I was browsing the Harney & Sons site and saw this blend using Rooibos:

"...caffeine free cup of of Herbal Holiday. This is a blend of rooibos and the holiday flavors of citrus, almond and spices. We served it over the Thanksgiving holidays at John's house. It was a big hit."

We have almond and spice as two of our flavors. What do you think?

message 40: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Oh I definitely want Rooibos w/ almond and spice! Even more than the kind of green tea blend we were talking about earlier.

message 41: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Oh yeah! I forgot about the voting. I'll do that tonight when I get home from work.

message 42: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments The polls are up! Be sure you pop over and vote. There are 2 separate polls.

message 43: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (indiereadergirl) | 14 comments I came late to the tea conversation. How does it work, purchasing it wise? I voted for the teas: the oolong one and the Rooibos. Both sound mighty tasty. The names are so cute, too. Great idea and job everyone.

message 44: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (indiereadergirl) | 14 comments Ah, OK. Thanks for clearing that up. I like this idea, even though I always forget when the topplers are.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Hannah wrote: "Ah, OK. Thanks for clearing that up. I like this idea, even though I always forget when the topplers are."

Check our calendar for that and other upcoming events.

The details of the June toppler are listed in message 1 of this thread.

message 46: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments We have clear winners for both tea flavours:

Tipsy Toppler Tea - Black Tea with Rum & Spice
Proper Toppler Tea - Oolong Tea with Vanilla & Nutmeg.

Cheryl has all the contact info for the company that blends the teas. Could you (Cheryl) contact for prices and ordering information. If you don't have time, could you pm me with the info? Thanks

message 47: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Tx for the offer of help, I will PM you with his info. (He's only become a 'friend' as I've been in touch with him for this project, so I don't feel a personal connection and am glad to hand off the baton.)
