ABANDONED. J Sci-Fi 1970's-1990's?—A boy is taken onto a spaceship and tries to escape, along with a girl he found on board

I remember VERY little about this book, but here I go. Early in the book
there is a deadly plane crash (or memory of one) with a boy (the
protagonist) surviving. Later, some sort of government(?) official visits
the boy's (or girl's?) house, and next thing I know the boy is on board a
spaceship. On it, there's also a trapped feral girl and a robot. I also
think the boy and girl try to escape from the spaceship. For the cover art
of the hardcover version, I think the boy and girl are climbing out of the
spaceship via a rope. I read this book in my elementary school's library
in the mid/late '90s. Please help!

Well, from the heading, I'd thought that it was Have Space Suit—Will Travel but not a lot of the rest of the book sounds right. But you could still check out the book and see if that's it.
