I'll be interested in your final opinion on The Marriage Plot. I've read Middlesex and liked it but it was different. I just finished Death in a Difficult Position by Diana Killian. For a cozy mystery it was really good. I finished it in one night.

The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston LeLeroux (I know this doesn't "fit" into this category but 5 of my friends have marked it as "to-read" so it fits for me!)

This month, I'm just going to add to here when I'm finished. The weather is getting nicer and things are getting CRAZY. but that being said, I think I'm just shy of being halfway to my goal of 100 books this year.

I just finished Warhorse. What a powerful book! It tells about WWI through the viewpoint of a horse, Joey. Joey takes the point that war is more than destroyed buildings and land. There is damage to those not in the fighting. Fantastic but bring your kleenex. No dry eyes here.
I went from war to poison but both are for the same time period. I'm reading The Poisoner's Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Mediceine in Jazz Age New York by Deoborh Blum. It's how discovering murders by poison became a forensic science for the police and coroner's office in New York City. It is fascinating so far. It reads like a novel and begins around 1916. This is for my book club on Wednesday.

Now reading "War Trash" by Ha Jin. This is a story of the experiences by Chinese POWs held by Americans during the 1951-1953 Korean conflict. This is our Book Club selection for this month.
War Trash sounds interesting. Let me know how you like it. It's only two months until we have our pick'em party at book club for the books we're going to read next year. I'm always on the outlook for something different and good.

Just finished The Poisoner's Handbook. Very interesting. It starts around 1916 and ends in the mid-30's. Each chapter is a different poison and a different year. I think the years determined which poison was talked about based on a trial. It was interesting how the medical examiners helped to convict or free a suspect.

Finished Chapter 1, "Willa."
"A man finds himself in a train station after an apparent wreck with a few of the other passengers. Unable to locate his fiancee, Willa, he decides to set out to a nearby town—where he knows she would go—to find her. The others try to convince him that not only is the train going to arrive any minute to pick them up, going to town is dangerous as the almost three-mile hike goes straight through deserted terrain that is inhabited by dangerous wolves. Ignoring their advice, he heads into town and has a close-encounter with one of the wolves on the way.
Noticing some lights and music at a nearby honky-tonk, he decides to investigate and finds Willa sitting all alone in a corner booth. As he tries to convince her to come back to the station with him, he realizes what they both have known all along . . .

Plenty of power - Using the "Playaway" from the library. The Playaway is a preloaded audiobook that uses a single AAA battery. Just plug in your ear phones, press the play button and you're ready to listen to the story.

Hey, how's everyone getting along on their reading for May? I just finished My Name is Memory. It's different because it's told from the guy's point of view. It is good but I disagree with many of the posted reviews. I did not want it throw it across the room. I only want a sequel.

One of my reading goals this year is to read as many John Steinbeck works that I can. Prior to this year I read a total of 0, so I'm trying to make up for lost time.
Good Reading All!
Well, it's official. I am an addict--a book addict!
I just got a Kindle Touch and spent the last 1 1/2 hours downloading a bunch of free books. Some look like really good reads also. I'll keep you updated.

Yes you are . . . But I'm sure you'll enjoy every minute of your Kindle. Me? I guess I still like the feel and touch of a "real" book!
Oh, I also love the feeling of a book--you should see my house ;) I review for an on-line site and most of the review books are in e-book format and more and more are putting them out as Kindle format only. I have a Sony e-reader, which I love and prefer, but I can't always get a .pdf copy of the review books. Plus every week authors offer up a lot of books free on Amazon and I cannot read a book on a desk top computer or my droid phone--too hard on the eyes and neck.

It's Two Lips Reviews. It's mostly romance but we are branching out in our prints category to mysteries, cozy mysteries, and whatever publishers/authors send us.
